I picked up this score after watching the film for a second time in my high school Media class when we had to analyse the film and the production elements. I was given the task of analyzing the score, scene-by-scene and had a great time studying how the music played such an important role in creating horror, suspense, desperation, yearning and love. Herrmann since became one of my favorite composers admiring his iconic style and his influences upon my all-time favorite composer John Williams.
This score was re-recorded in 1997 by Joel McNeely and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, using Herrmann's manuscripts to create a complete score (whether this is truly complete, I am unaware)
Things I admire about this recording is that the tempo was increased for crucial scenes like The Cellar where Herrmann's original recording had that played much slower. There's less interference and crackling than the original - hardly any really.
This is a Varese title so you'll have to PM ME FOR A LINK!
I've noticed there are several other threads on the subject of this score, but hopefully there are people who would like a fresh rip and an easy link for MEGA.
