I had the same problems. It drove me nuts. And the more I played it, the worse it got.

I think, the PS 1 couldn't deal with all the graphics that well. I had problems in every FF game. After I got PS2, I didn't have these problems anymore.

I don't play the bigger games (graphic loades games) on my PS 1 anymore.... ;)

ya but I already beat the game (we'll got past that part) with no problems,

i'm thinking of buying it agian (even though i just bought a PS2)

it'll be really cheap and Hopefully it won't mess up like that this time

and yes Playstation Version

Hm. Try bringing the game to the electronics store (or wherever you buy games) and ask about it. Maybe this is a common problem, or maybe they can spot something wrong with the disc itself. Or, you could bring your disc and the memory card to a friend's house and see if the same problem occurs there. If it doesn't, then you may want to check out your PS2.

Also, you said that you just got a PS2. Did you try playing with the PS1? Maybe your particular disc just doesn't like the PS2 for some reason. ;)

Hmm.. I've never played FF8 on a PSone. I played in the PC for the a while and then I bought the PS version when I got my PS2.

Could just be a coding fault on a certain batch of discs? I dunno..

So have you tried it on the PS2 yet? Maybe it'll work better on that.

Well my FFVIII CD got frozen around that time as well when I scrathed it too much. But I got new one when I bought my PS2 and it runs smoother now.

If you play it on the PS2, make sure the Playstation driver (for PSX games) is set on standard for both graphics and disc speed. You can get to this screen by pressing triangle when you're on the Browser/System Config. screen.

When I was replaing FF8, I had the driver on smooth and fast. Granted, the graphics looked a bit better, and the loading times were a bit faster, but the game freezed up a bit. So when I took those off, FF8 player perfectly.

If nothing else works, and you can't get it to play on either the PSX or PS2, your disc might be scratched. You could try to repair it (via repair kits), but it might be much easier to just buy a new copy. It should cost no more than $20 now.

Oooh, I never knew about this before. You taught me something, Vivi FF. I'm definitely gonna check this out.
