As far as I know, you guys will get on the same servers as us and the Japanese.

And in that case, you might as well join Cerberus :p

I should go around to getting a char on that server but it would be neglected and unused, so nvm.

Actually, the servers are in Japan. We're playing on Japanese servers.

What he said. So, since the planet is round (at least last time I checked), you Europeans wouldn't be much farther.

Besides, when in-game, your connection speed is capped at 56k, so I've heard, and I'm tempted to agree. I played with 56k for a week and besides for downloading a patch, I saw no difference WHATSOEVER. Typo could also confirm it.

I understand that you woulnd't want to move to Cerberus, Plasma, since you already put so much effort on your character, but as Heather said, Cerberus' where it's at :)

Why would they make new servers for European players when North American and Japanese players are playing on the same servers?

It'd be a bit senseless.

Amen to that.

At worst, maybe they'll make one new server in a few months and offer the chance to players to move to the server and keep their characters by placing a special NPC. Such a thing is possible but VERY rarely happens, heard it's for balancing the flow of people on servers.

As far as the video game market is concerned, you're wrong.

And besides, FFXI isn't just any MMORPG, either.

so your saying more people from north america buy more games than europeans?

MogKnight

Well, to really jog a sight, yeah NA does buy more games than Europe in a console based POV. PC on the other hand can be a different story, but I'm still leaning towards EU.

Europe in itself is slightly less than Japan and totally less compared to NA. Even SE predicted that Europe won't make much of an impact to the servers.

As big as Europe is, it's not that big.

I don't want to insult Europe at all, but there is a reason why they get all the games after everyone...and that is because the market there is smaller. Period.

I know for a fact that it doesn't cap at 56k when you play. That would make no sense at all. Go somewhere like jeuno and see how long it takes to load the AH area of it.. thats a real test. :P

Well I've got news for you, I already tried that.

And it IS THE SAME. Besides downloading patches, there was no difference in lag or loading, whatsoever.

If you haven't tried the game on a 56k, I can understand why you'd believe it wouldn't be capped, though. But when I tried it while I waited on my DSL, I was surprised...a lot.

I'm not saying I'm sure it's capped at 56k, I only heard about it, but with personnal experience I really didn't see much of a difference with both, except for patches, must I insist.

its fucked up that we get the games like a year or more after the americans, and so what if more people in america buy the games we shouldnt have 2 wait so long after every1 else we should get them befor the americans imo

It probably is capped knowing that it was released for PS2 first. That's pretty crappy, knowing my bandwidth is going to waste.

Ah, that may be the reason, indeed, but as I said, it's only something I heard, it's in no means confirmed. All I'm saying is that as far as in-game is concerned, I saw no difference at all.

@Akira150

If your reasoning had any good at all, that would mean we should also get the games at the same time as the japanese...

crayzieman

Well I went around to a lot of sites and most of them reported it being capped at 56k, and being that square gimped the graphics for the PS2 release I'm pretty much believing what I hear.

well not realy as they are made in japan, so you would still have to wait ages while it is being translated and stuff.
Its just complete bollocks because by the time we get the games everyone else has finished them

Me too, I know they did create a new server for the EU beta, but as far as I'm concerned they'll play on the same servers as we do.

Well, considering that a large chunk of the European market is in close proximity to Japan (being Australia and New Zealand - though I hate the fact we're clumped in together with countries on the otherside of the world >=/ ), I don't see any reason why they would need new servers.

Japan's only a couple of hours north as the sparrow (or 777) flies from us here in Aus, so (hopefully) we'll get a blinding fast connection to the servers.

And somehow, I can't see the JAP players settling for a 56k connection cap - I mean, with the broadband deals they get, our best broadband is slow to them :(

That may not make sense to you, but it is like that. Just play the game with both options and you'll see.
