A double bill of Willy Wonka rarities from 1971 - the original complete Anthony Newley demo tape, and the beautiful original 1970s French version of the soundtrack.

The demos are taken from the now-deleted 'Newley Discovered' CD (and are lovely high quality studio masters), and the French soundtrack I've made myself. Sourced from the late-1990s PAL DVD release which contains the original French dub as a mono AC3 file, I have speed-corrected the audio, made it more presentable (EQ, mastering etc), and obviously separated the tracks as neatly as possible from the locked-in film audio. I've made sure the song titles are correct using my admittedly abominable French.

Thanks so much for posting! Loved hearing both sets. I sent them on to Mike TV who also loved them. He's forwarding them to Veruca Salt for verification because she still has the original demo record that Anthony Newley recorded for the cast. I'll let you know when/if I hear anything.

Ooh, great stuff! Part of me is hoping that there's yet another set of demo recordings in existence - these are merely from the CD the Newley estate put out a while back, no special find on my part!

Quite proud at making the French soundtrack though - always been drawn to that dub, it just works somehow. Always been a bit obsessed with the film and delighted to have contributed something 'new' to the not inconsiderable fan community. :D

"Wonkerer", thankfully. That section does actually survive in Leslie Bricusse's naff schools adaptation, ditto the extra bits of I Want It Now.

No reply from Veruca (Julie Dawn Cole) sadly. Paris (Mike TeeVee) said that as he didn't have a song in the film, he wasn't given a demo. Only Julie and Peter from among the kids got them apparently. I may try sending it to Peter. He's a bit more communicative.
