I'm just curious to know what people thought about leveling up in the game! Did you like the monsters leveling up with youm or prefer to just be able to get stronger than everything else?

I thought it was more of a challenge, because you couldnt just get to level 100 and then expect to beat everything. Yet, I liked the other way better, because it's more fun to get strong and not have to worry about battles being hard so you can enjoy the story. What about you?

I thought the game was easy no matter what. Leveling up was never a difficulty.

I agree I had no problems leveling up through out the game

Thats only cause you only need 1000exp. to level up each time.

I usually still level up anyways, regardless of the fact that the enemies will get stronger every time. I definitely like a good challenge. Besides, it is very important to get to at least Lv.30 so you could draw out the most powerful spells off the enemies. But that's just my opinion.

I sort of prefer the other leveling up way better. But the leveling up system in FF8 did provide a challenging new concept to the game, which I liked.

I usually level up all characters to 25 underneath the Desert Prison, after leaving Deling City for the Tomb of the Unknown king. Gives you more of a boost to fight Diablos and Brothers.

Then I leave it until the end of the Second disc and fight the demonic Hockey players on the ice, easy wins for loads of exp. Usually level up all to 65 (except Squall who gets up to around 100).

Then leave until end of of disc 3 and collect top weapons and magic draws before finishing levelling up against Elvoret(?) in Esthar (Junction 100 deaths to status-attack).

I think the way monsters level up with you is really good, so it gives you an exp boost when fighting lesser monsters later on in the game. However, the thing I didnt like was the way the characters who weren't participating in the levelling up battles didn't auto-level up like they did on FFVII, if that makes sense.

When you gr the regnarock (or however you spell it) go to the island closet to Hell/Heaven for leveling up (if needed) the monsters there give you loads of exp

Visiting Cactuar Island is the easiest way to level up if you want to gain levels quickly. It's a bit unrewarding though but it all depends on what you want from the game.

Once you've levelled up it becomes easier to defeat harder monsters but it takes the challenge away from the game. This is fine if you want to enjoy the story but if you want a generally all-round challenging game then just leave levelling up to the story's natural progression.

Well, you won't really "level up" actually if you visit Cactuar Island, but I guess what you're getting at is that you will max out of most of your abilities. Which yeah, is something I usually do. Usually on Disc 2 actually, for the most part. A lot of people don't know that cactuars are available to fight as soon as you get the mobile Garden. You can't visit the island, but you can visit the desert area near it. (The same one where you can find the Ragnarok on Disc 4.)

Yeah but problem with maxing out abilities I tend to find is then you can't be bothered puitting in the effort to level up your GF's, meaning your left with a pretty sorry excuse for an Eden.
But maybe thats just me...

That's what i meant, yeah. Gaining all the GF's abilities which prove essential during the later parts of the game.

oh i loved the level up system in ff8 :) provided so much more of a challenge factor to the game. where's the fun if you're bigger and better than everything else and you can squash em all like bitebugs? ;)

Islands Closest to Heaven and Hell were da bomb. in between side quests that was where i went to do some serious level-upping :)

I had a file with everyone lvl. 100. I fought on some island with Ruby Dragons, Blue Dragons, Hexadragons, T-Rexaurs, and other powerful monsters. I got to 100 easily.
