A 2012 Score for a 1982 Film from Grindhouse releasing:

Pieces is a slasher horror feature from 1982 that revolves around a serial killer who tries to construct a jigsaw puzzle from human body parts. The idea of bastardizing existing forms appears to hold great appeal for Kansas City musician Matt Hill, who records schlocky instrumental fare indebted to a broad range of Z-grade giallo peddlers under the Umberto name.

His prior work, of which the deathly Not Not Fun LP Prophecy of the Black Widow was a highlight, provided, in Hill's own words, "soundtracks to films that don't exist".

There still isn't a bona fide soundtrack that bears the Umberto name, but he took one step closer to realizing that dream by performing the music on Night Has a Thousand Screams to a screening of Pieces at the Glasgow Music and Film Festival earlier this year. Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite was in attendance at the screening, and subsequently offered to release the music on his Rock Action imprint.

The results are a fractional advance on what came before, with the blood running a little thicker and brighter than prior Umberto releases.

The End Credits theme is simply awesome ^^ for me :-P except that the track 6 (Dance Studio I think) is great too, some other nice moments including the Opening as a reprise of the End Credits theme.

haha Bloody Bird (Deliria or Stagefright in the us) is actualy one of my favorite films of all time ^^ also the Simon Boswell score is one of my favorite scores ever too ;) An amazing Lucertola records release :)

After nearly dying yesterday and actually getting busted by the state police for possession of marijuana and narrowly avoiding jail today, it's wonderful to come home and be able to find even more goodies like this waiting for me. Been searching for years for this soundtrack. I found the Ritz Ortolani (??) cues recently this year but could not find any of the other stuff. I'm downloading now but in advance, thanks very much for your efforts!

BTW, Kentucky cops and state troopers are pricks. Making themselves feel so great while making us feel so small. Plus it's just weed. It's gonna be legal in a few months anyway.

No idea about the Ortolani cues I must admit ^^ What I know is at the date of the film, a unknown (and actualy untalented lol) composer was hired and fired after several weeks, however the VHS and some DVD still credits this guy as the composer...

As far as I know, most DVD contains the new 2012 edit with the Matt Hill (Umberto) live performed soundtrack score edited.
The only strange thing is the disc, is not named Pieces original soundtrack but A Night of Thousand Screams. A right issue probably, even if the cd is produced and distributed by Mogwai...

Anyway, happy to see some interested peoples ^^ in first I have question myself and think this will not interest anyone, and finaly have posted anyway just in the case :) Good to see the case was useful to someone ;)


EDIT: and sorry for you about the weed issue :( it's a shame.... I never got this kind of problems, since in my country this is 100% legal and not considerate as a drug (of course, it is'nt lol, not anymore than alcool and tabaco for sure...) but I'm pretty certain this is really a bad time :(

Not used in the old edit of the film ;) Since 2012, the film contains and is edited officialy with the score of Umberto. the pther guy (Cam) is the one I was talking about... the director always hated this music... ;)

I don't know about the Canadian / US releases ^^ But the french special uncut edition is the new edit from the director and contains the new 2012 score of Matt Hill :) Same for the german limited on 500 dvd edition, this one also contains a commentary or interview of Piquer Simon talking about how much he is happy with this new music who sounds like an old italian score :)

If it were legal, I wouldn't be so cautious as to where I smoke meaning I wouldn't have to hide in inconspicious places so often. I haven't seen any with this score yet. Only US releases are the Grindhouse uncut version of the original movie with options for spanish language version with alternate piano score or the original English track with the original CAM library music plus the hundreds of budget discs that feature the same print in varying qualities but none surpassing the Grindhouse edition. As many times as I've seen the movie, I really can't see Matt Hill's score fitting in. I mean I'm sure it could but it on its own doesn't settle with me the same way. Beggars can't be choosers, I'm just nitpicky sometimes. I really do appreciate you giving us this.

and about the uncut version I'm pretty certain than the french version contains also this version, since there are two version of the film on the dvd: the orignal uncut version from 82 (never watched, probably contains the original music) and the new director's cut 2012 version (only sub in french, spanish language only), the version I have watched the 3 times I have watched the film ^^

And really, in my opinion (and considering I've never see it like you) I can assure you the score perfectly feet to the film's madness ;) and the End Credits is an awesome kick ass final theme ^^

But why do you not smoke at your home only in this way?

I usually do but when I smoke with friends, we can't always smoke at their place or mine so we have to find secluded spots to park for a while. There was a nice church just 3 miles down the road from my house that we went to over a dozen times before and not once when we smoked has ANYONE EVER showed up. We could be sitting there for 2 or 3 hours and be completely fine. I myself have been going there for years. I don't disrespect the place by flicking my cigarette butts in the driveway or copulate or anything of that nature. I used to but after finding out someone I was sexually active with lied about their age (said they were 19, come to find out they were only 16 :X) and got me into a sticky situation, I quit doing that. I just kept thinking if only they had shown up during any of the times we hooked up. Knowing he was only 16 almost makes me wanna throw up now. Luckily we only had sex once but still, it happened and it's on my soul. Even though technically I'm not at fault because he deceived me, I still get stuck with the thought that I slept with a 16 year old and that whole pedophile thing crossed my mind. I need a complete life overhaul. This new direction simply isn't cutting it for me.

Yes this is a sure things, of course if I take a night with a guy and realise the morning after he have only 16 or 17 I will be not really glad... I will probably be confusing lol, but if it's only one time, for one night (day however ^^), and you'll never see him again, for me it's ok... not a good remember for sure, but nothing gruesome :) it's not like it's my new boyfriend or worst someone I will mary lol, this is just a brief "error" of one night, I think anyone can do that one time, not need to shame or blame him for that..
