I don�t want to spoil the fun everybody's having with this... but this is a well known example of an upsample. Hans Zimmer always works with 44.1 / 48 kHz so above 22.050 Hz is nothing, just noise.

One could use the CD as well, they sound the same and are mastered exactly alike. I should know, I bought the 96 kHz version at HDTracks, something I�m still ashamed to have done.

Personally I wouldn't bother with vinyl / HiRes releases of these scores because 1, most of the music is electronic or electronically altered so all the benefits of an analog presentation is moot (to me at least, the biggest draw of an analog recording and warmer sound of vinyl is to capture the depth and feel of live musicians performing their instruments or singing) and 2, Zimmer's albums always have that overblown clipped bass and are heavily compressed (like pop, rock or hip-hop albums are now) and this is evident just by listening to the sessions of the same music which are vastly superior, even this score in mp3 form.

In case of Zimmer and his RC colleagues this is true. Though there are of course samplers and synths fully capable of HiRes... I�m thinking about Jean Michel Jarre's old stuff... but who�s using analogue synthsizers these days? HiRes also doesn�t help shoddily recorded material... a few months ago I bought 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' at HDTracks in 96 kHz. HiRes doesn�t change the fact that general recording and mixing quality is heavily compromised on that score - but then again, this is typical for Giacchino.

On the other hand: give me Goldsmiths DSD-recordings anytime. They�re recorded and mixed almost perfectly and reveal the tiny, tiny bit of extra resoltion HiRes provides.

I also wanted to mention this. TDKR's OST is both terrible in having almost no dynamic range, and being suited to death - they even butchered up the Prologue. TDK's OST sounded a lot better, especially the suites (which are compared to TDKR quite thoughtful and not weirdly mixed cues).

Well, I think Hans nor his team have control over what they do with his scores, but they're definitely available at true audiophile format. If they re-released the score by simply upsampling then that's a shame. It makes this forum more valuable though... some people release scores that the distribution companies dont.

Have you tested this release? I haven't received a link yet, but I'd like to test it myself. It's worth noting though, you get more from bitrate (24bit/32bit) than you do from sample rates. I'd rather have a 24bit 44/48khz than a 16bit 96khz release. High sample rates are most beneficial during the recording and mixing process... some digital processing introduces aliasing and when mixed at high sample rates like 96khz, the aliasing is pushed into inaudible frequencies. Bit depth however handles the dynamic range and undithered lossless audio is more noticable. You get this quality on blurays :D

For those of that even bother to read other posts... i can confirm what SonicAdventure says: There is no more audio information in this than in the CD release. The only difference is that this is 24 bits instead of 16. But the 96 kHz? Nothing above 22 kHz. If i would have bought this then i would definitely have demanded a refund.

But hey, who am i to argue. If it looks like gold it probably is gold, even if there's shit beneath...

And no blame to the uploader :) all uploaders deserve credit. Those that released this are the ones that should be flamed...
