Hi all. I'm an avid collector of music who has recently discovered Final Fantasy (at the age of 22..oops!).
So far I have only played 7 and watched Advent Children so I have a lot to do , but I have begun collecting music.

However, I am finding it hard to find an actual list of what exists. I am pretty OCD and was hoping all you fanatics could help compile an organized one. There are so many different versions etc spread all around the web and I'm finding it hard to digest. Doesn't help that I enjoy looking for physical copies rather than downloading!

I'm guessing there are soundtracks available for all of the mainline games? And I presume they sound just like the game (i.e. the older games do not feature real instruments / computer generated real sounding instruments)?

I'm keen on getting hold of, largely, the real sounding stuff. So I've gotten the Piano Collections for a few games which contain arrangements of some but not all tracks. They seem to exist from IV onwards - that was one organized list I found on wiki.

Any more real sound arrangements of the (earlier) game soundtracks? I know of "Final Fantasy Orchestra Album" which has a few songs from each game. I've heard of Nobuo doing some vocal-only arrangements also.

Clearly, this is a pretty daunting task and I'd appreciate the help of all you knowledgeable people - it would be awesome to be able to compile a list of official soundtrack releases and maintain it.
Lets try and keep it official - as I presume there are absolutely ridiculous amounts of non official versions.

This is a good list of just SOME releases http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_compilation_albums
Ideally I'd get my hands on something like the "Finest Box" with all the games..hah.

Welcome!

The trouble with trying to find an in depth list of every FF music album released is that a lot of the earlier albums are long out of production - prior to 1997 FF were produced by NTT Publishing, post 1997 to about 2004/2005 they were produced by Digicube, and since then, it's been Polydor that has been producing FF material. It should also be noted that the official soundtrack albums don't always include all materia featured in a game, and currently, not every FF game has featured a compled soundtrack (for instance, FFXIV version 1.0 only finally got a complete soundtrack about six months ago, and A Realm Reborn only has a 6 track mini album that came with the game's Collector's Edition.). Thus this makes collecting albums for every title difficult.

Incidentally, this is a good starting point (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Albums), but it's incomplete - I know of a few obscure albums that are not listed on the FF Wiki, which are arranged albums or unlicensed fan productions.

Vgmdb.net is also a good resource for official releases, what's on them, and which composer did which track: Final Fantasy releases (http://vgmdb.net/search?q=Final+Fantasy).

Guys - thank you for these lists. They are much more in depth than the wikis. I don't see it necessary to try and put together another list now. This will help me very well!
