Who thought the Laguna dream sequences were necessary?
Although I liked the dream sequences, I did'nt feel they added much to the main story except Ellone. So does anyone else have any opinion on it?

i liked as they explained what laguna and friends were doing. and although they weren't absolutely necessary i think it was nice to see them. where laguna had been and so on.

Whenever one of them would come up, I'd groan in annoyance. :-[ It added another dimension to the story, in that you get to sort of live the past while the present is going on, and you know where some of the characters came from and all, but personally, I coulda done without them. I think that perhaps they should have focused on a more convincing past/childhood for each character, as well as some decent character development, instead of the whole Laguna thing.

I love Laguna, so of course I liked the dream sequences. But aside from just their entertainment value, they added curiousity about what was happening. If the dream sequences didn't happen, we wouldn't have even realized that anything truly unusual was going on in the world until later in the game.

Well weather the dreams were neccessary or not they were awsome

Course they were necessary, they were a very significant piece of the stroyline to FFVIII.

I actually found it really annoying! I didn't like getting torn away from the rest of the party... not even for a little break. It made me nervous for some reason.

I did kind of hope that I wouldn't need to stick with them for long... Sure, it was nice to see how Laguna's life developed and thus when he got introduced you knew who he was and you had followed him around. However, not having him join the party after all that development was a bit silly.

Yeah thats was stupid, cuz I was like I can't wait till he joins my party. Then when he came on the Regnarock (?) and he briefed the mission I was like finally he's gonna join me and he didn't so I was kinda cut

Why would they join though? Their strength basically came from the powers endowed on them through your party. So for them to join, that would bascially be useless. If you go through some of the extra conversations in Winhill, they talk about this "buzzing" and the "fairies" and say that because they can feel it, the battles are going to be a lot easier than usual.

At first I found them wholely unnecessary. After playing the game through for a second time I found them less annoying as I was expecting them and as the storyline got more intense I enjoyed them.

The two stories were blended together well and seeing Laguna as the president of Esthar was a great surprise!

i really liked it!!!
It got me curious about... who are those guys, and why are they important.

and at a certain moment all the puzzlepieces fall together... just love when that happens!!!

the laguna dream sequences were absolutely necessary to the plot, but i didnt completely enjoy them either. they got on my nerves after awhile, because i was mainly interested in Squall and Co's character development -- and not so much Laguna.

my biggest peeve about the dream sequences is that it resetted all my junctions. it got to a point where i had to start writing down all my junctions on a piece of paper prior to a dream sequence. peh!

all that out of the way, the D/sequences arent that shabby!

That was what I found annoying aswell. Having to re-junction everything was a bit of a pain.

It was some what necessary to just fill in empty gaps of the story, like who laguna is and all that sort of stuff. But like many said before it was so annoying how it messed up my junctions. It used to catch me by surprise the first time i played it, and after it took me HOURS to set up a junction im happy with, it took it off >:| not good at all

I hated it when I first got into it. I didn't know what was going on. And I was hoping, this whould only be a short trip. But there was more than one flashback.... :(

The second time I played this game it was a little better because I knew what will come, and I was prepared for it. ;)

I will say it was alright, but I prefer games without flashbacks like that. :)

The best thing about Laguna was, he was pretty funny at least. Especially when he tried to talk to Julia (Rinoas mother, I don't know if she has the same name in the US version) :D

When I played the first sequence for the first time, I was confused until my brother told me that Laguna was a chracter in the game.

Other than confusion I found it annoying.
Rejunctioning. Errgh.

Well, I guess they're not necessary if you're not interested in the game's storyline.

But personally, although I liked the junction system, I wouldn't play VIII if I didn't like the story.

I don't think they were necessary, but they explained a few things while at the same time adding some comic relief.

I think they were necessary, because it allowed you to control three good characters instead of the bad ones that you have to stick with throughout most of the game.

SirBlood

Heh then how were they necessary? You got to play them in seperate times in the game. You did not get to use them to finish the game... So they weren't really necessary. Regardless if they were better then the characters you were stuck with for most of the game.

Bad characters as in strength wise or personality (im guessing personality..). I dont know, I think Laguna, Kiros, and Ward were just like Squall, Quistis, and Rinoa in many ways. Each had a trait they shared..

Yeah they were modeled off of the rest of the characters, so it was seamless. They were cooler looking though.

Maybee it was necessary because it helps lead to the storyline better. If Squall found out about Laguna later in the game, it would've been too late to find out about it. I thought it was very necessary to know about him early because he was a very important character to the storyline, and I thought the dreamsequence part may not be necessary, but it did make an interesting addition to the game!

For me it was necessary because I was able to see what happened to laguna(especially his love story regarding raine and julia), ward(my favorite being how he lost his voice..really sad) and kiros in the past..what they were like. they are really cool characters too and i wouldn't be able to use them in battle if those sequences didnt occur. l

i think the sequences were fun, but yeah, i didn't like the fact, that it ruined my junction. But hey, i think they were very important, cause wihtout them, there wouldn't be "the man with the machine gun", witch i think is the best piece of music in ff8:D

At least it only ruins the junction about the first three times of it. Then later on you have a chioce on the party members and the junction.

Hmm...I enjoy the dream sequence. It let me learn about some of Laguna and buddies past. And to most of the sequence, Laguna was just too funny. (leg cramps when trying to say hello to Julia..)
