So here we are once again at the end of a grand year. We saw new systems come out with a lot of fantastic games. What did you think was your best game and soundtrack of this year?

For me, the Game of the Year went to Super Mario 3D World for its fun levels and overall enjoyment.

Soundtrack of the Year went to Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness. Remade versions of previously made Disgaea songs, as well as the new stuff made this soundtrack come out on top.

Ni No Kuni?

I'd say the best OST is going to be harder.
Just recently I bought AC4: Black Flag and I'm LOVING the OST.

Ah... I don't know. I thought this year was a bit of a wash personally. I buy anything that I think I have even a slight chance of liking, but I only bought 11 games all year! And mostly all of those were from the first few months of the year. But... hmm. ummm... probably... maybe... arrgh! Its no good - I'm an RPG fan at heart, and this year has *totally sucked* for RPGs.

Seriously though, this year has had several games that I thought were okay, but very few that I'd really want to go out to bat for. Games like Metal Gear Rising, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Metro Last Light, Fire Emblem Awakening... they were all good for the most part, and I did enjoy them. But I didn't ever really *love* them. I'd put them in a Top 10 for sure, but if you asked me which one should be at the top, I'd have to say none of them really deserve to.

But I have to make a choice, so... so... soooo... I guess...

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

Probably. It feels kind of odd to name it as GotY, because again whilst it was really good, I'm not sure I ever really loved it as much as I wanted to. Comapred to some of the other AA games, it was fantastically entertaining still (maybe even more so than the previous games) but it also felt a little lightweight emotionally. A good compromise might be for me to merge this and Ace Attorney Investigations 2 which thanks to Capcom, I could only watch on Youtube and not actually play. That did have a good story, but it wasn't always all that enjoyable in an of itself. So... basically if you ram these 2 games together in that super collider thing that the science boffins are always going on about, they might magically merge into an AA game that I would be happy to name as GotY.

In the absence of that though... Dual Destinies takes it for the blackboard sequence in Case 3. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

As for the OST - Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies again. More of a definitive choice this time. DD might not always be as great a game as I wanted, but its soundtrack was absolutely awesome. The theme for The Amazing Nine Tails, Bobby Fullbright's theme, the Great Pirates theme... this game was just full to bursting with excellent songs.

But yeah.. roll on 2014 - and give me some damn RPGs already!

Super Mario 3D World - I loved 3D Land for the 3DS. I thought it was a really good game that was a perfect combo of 2D and 3D Mario games. Definitely way better than all of the "New" Super Mario Bros. games combined. Then 3D World took what 3D Land started, and just added so much more to make it better. Like bringing back Super Mario Bros. 2 into a modern game. Super Mario Bros. 2 was my favorite in Mario All-Stars and 3D Land was my favorite modern Mario game, so you can't imagine how excited I was to see these two games combined. It definitely has the most variety of any Mario game I've ever played. With characters, levels, bosses, and music. Even though it's a little on the easy side IMO, it's definitely one of my top favorite Mario games ever. Possibly even #1...

Super Mario 3D World Original Soundtrack - Like I said before, this has the most variety in music of any Mario game. It has jazz, orchestral, disco, rock, remixes from previous games, and even Japanese music. Since older arranged Nintendo albums is what got me into jazz music in the first place, I loved that it was made for this game. I think jazz music really fits Mario games perfectly and I hope there will be more jazz music in upcoming games as well. Even though Club Nintendo Japan gets all the soundtracks as usual, I'm really glad this game got an official 2-disc soundtrack since it's music is too amazing to not have one.
