I can't wait to see the way to gain abilities in FF12/future ff games! What else could they do? They've done materia, junction, ap+spheres, sphere grid. Any thoughts/ideas on new systems?

The ability system in IX is really one of my favorites.

From what I've seen of the ability system in XII, it actually looks a bit similar to Materia. I've no clue as to how it will work though.

I'd like to see an ability system that allows for a lot of character customization. It's fun to be able to pick and choose what kind of things you'd like each character to excel at.

What I'd like to see is a system where you can customize each character in whatever way you like, but can only customize so far with no way of undoing it.

That way, you wind up with characters who can do exactly what you wanted them to do, but can't do everything like they could in most of the recent games.

I Don't know all that much about XII but if it involves quests it would be cool t get "Quest points" ans distributing them to get new skills and abilities.

Hop-scotch would be a great way to learn new abilities. Some characters feet would be too big for the boxes, so they can't learn those abilities. Some characters legs would be too small to make the long lunges, so they can't learn those abilities. The actual hop-scotch could be done with the direction pad, X for long jump and O for short jump, and the shoulder buttons would correspond to the color of the box the character is jumping in, because of course the character has to shout the color of the box before landing in it or else they fail.

I believe that they should have a system where, just like in ff8 with the gf ability system, you can learn abilities and you slowly progress, also you can up your potency with spells and such

for instance
You have starting level spell(ie fire, cure) and you master it with 100 skill points
To start the next level, you will have to search out a mage in the town or something and pay him gil or something (or not, not sure) and then to master that one it would take like 150 skill points. HOWEVER, you could put MORE skill points on the starting level spell to have it do more damage or something (so instead of it doing like 200 with 100 skill points, it would do 350 with 150 or something). A little hard to follow yes, practical? I don't know

i get where ur goin minihaymanz, that could work, the ff8 way of learning abilities was pretty cool, but drawing magic from enemies sucked so much, but ur idea is good, i like it!

Thanks
I didn't mind the drawing system, but I am pretty sure there should be another way of doing it. I am pretty sure you can't just 'suck' magic outta something. Maybe having it so that you don't have a set number of magic like in ff8 but more like ffx where you have infinite, depending on ur mp. But having a juncioning system like in ff8 where you use the magic that you have upgraded so that you can like 'powerup' or something your hp or str and stuff. So, ffx magic system, combined with a ff8 juncioning system

hmmmm....interesting idea, but how can u incorporate those together? junctioning was made to go with the way they had magic in ff8, if u don't have a certain number of magic then juctioning won't work, but if u have another way of determining how strong your magic is or how much it will count to raising ur stats then yeah, ur idea isn't unfeasable (spelling?) like your idea of skill point on your magic, the more skill points a spell has the more it counts to ur stats, and for instance, fire with 100 skill points raises ur strength by 20, but fira with 100 skill points raises ur strength by 40, somthing like that would work perfectly, so im still behind ur idea if they did somthing like that

yeah, and then fire with 150 skill points on it (max of 200 possibly) would give you +30 str or something...You get the picture

i'm glad we're on the same page here, your idea could be incorporated into a FF in the future, if they did that i wouldnt complain, but another form of materia is my dream of a returning battle system, but yeah, i hope the new system in ff12 is good, we can only hope and wait.....
