When I was in college and this was first released on LP, it received constant airplay on the local classical station. It remains THE FINEST recording of its kind. If you like your Christmas haunting; the dark chapel lit by torches and sputtering candles; braziers waving incense into the cold air; the echo of voices chanting in procession; and Chaucer readings, 10th century Saxon readings, 14th century English readings along with a couple of ancient prophecies; this is for you.

A MEDIEVAL CHRISTMAS

"It was just after Christmas 31 years ago that I heard a recording of Joel Cohen conducting the Boston Camerata performing A Medieval Christmas. As I listened, I felt as if the sky had cracked open ... " Donald Murray, Boston Globe (2006)

Just a brief appearance with a bit of Christmas cheer for those whom shared generously and brought me joy, and even for those whom gobble up without any appreciation... but tis the season and all that. ;-)

This is excellent!
I am new to the Forum and I am so happy I found this music.
I think that I can't find the words to describe my feelings.
I really love the echo of voices chanting in procession.
Thank you very much, my kind sir.
I am glad too that you have a Greek name.
Warm greetings from Greece.

I thought I already had this album, but after a diligent search, I've come up dry...

Medieval, Baroque, Gregorian Chant - All are nice when applied to Christmas music :)

Thank You so much, Phides1 :)

This recording came out in the mid-1970s... when most of you were not walking the planet. As already mentioned, it was repeatedly played on the Chicago Classical FM station at the time. I have only heard it it played once in recent years, which is a pity. Because it is THE Christmas recording. Others have tried to better it, including the Boston Camerata's exploration into other Christmas time periods. Nothing has ever come close to this. After wearing out LP after Lp I was overjoyed when it appeared on CD- though it did not have the extensive liner notes included with the LP. Oh well. It is the music that counts- and how this takes you back in time and place.

I have to admit that you are my Mentor (Μέντωρ) in quality music, my friend.
And not only mine (see post #5).
I think that you touch some sensitive strings of Greeks.
