Four years ago, after playing FFVIII (my 1st and favorite Final Fantasy game) I got FFIX. Now FFIX became my 2nd favorite FF game and I loved it, but I got stuck at one point in the game ( it was the finding the Black Mage Village part in Disc 2). So naturally I bought the FFIX official guide by BradyGames and I looked at the size of it and saw that it was alot thinner than the FFVIII guide but I did'nt think about and took home.

I got past that Black Mage Village part, but I then realised that the guide was pretty much crap. They had very simplified battle staregies, small paragraphs about the story, a very simplified bestiary and these PlayOnline things in the guide. I did'nt have my computer at the time so I was pretty much left screwed with this crappy guide. So I did the best I can and beat FFIX.

Now about 4 months ago I got a computer and I was exicted because the first thing I wanted to do was go to that PlayOnline place and get a complete walkthough for FFIX so I could do the sidequests. But I was screwed agin in finding only FFXI content on there. I was so pissed about that. But eventually I went to GameFaqs and printed a guide and now playing FFIX ( and replaying FFVIII) and getting the sidequests.

So I wanted to know if anyone got screwed with the FFIX guide because I sure have.:notgood:

I got hit by that also. After I played through the game without help the first time, I decided to go back and play it with the guide to find everything I missed. I thought it was kind of strange how it only cost me a penny...

When I got home, I found out why the store was desperate to get rid of it. Most useless piece of crap I've ever spent money on. Though I suppose I could get my money's worth out of it if I used it for kindling.

At the time of FFIX's release, there was an awesome walkthrough on FFIX on Square's PlayOnline site. Basically, all you had to do was register and bam!, instant access to it. I heard that the guide was horrible, and made major references to the online site. I guess Square was trying to do something new with an interaction between guide and Internet, but they failed. It's kind of stupid that they deleted the guide off their website, when it played such a core role in the actual guide.

Anyways, www.gamefaqs.com might bet your better bet anyways. It's free, and there are tons of walkthroughs that provide a lot of info. The only downside is that everything is text only, so no pics.

Sorry, but what you all talking about, the guide is here? When you enter the playonline web site, click on the SQUARE-ENIX thing on the left bar and here you go! You are on the square-enix web site, then go to here the link : http://www.square-enix.com/sei/index.htm then you go to Onlines guide and you will se Final Fantasy IX and you click on it and there you go. But you need the guide password to access some things. Plus you have to have a account.

i dont use guides, so i never had this problem, but my cousin did. according to what he told me about the guide, it worked like this: "man i need to know how to do this." **opens guide and flips to appropriate page** the guide says to go to playonline to find out. "okay, well, thats understandable...maybe. ill just look this up instead." **flips to appropriate page** the guide says to go to playonline to find out.

so basically, the guide was just a big neon arrow that pointed to playonline, again supporting my theory that ffix was just one big adverstising excuse to promote playonline.

I thought it was the worst FF strategy guide ever too because they made you look up the real answers on PlayOnline.com, where you have to do the register crap. So I thought, "shit" I'm going to gamefaqs.com where you don't have to do the registering crap. www.gamefaqs.com worked for me good!

I was ripped off too! When I went to Barnes and Noble to buy it I took it and got this uneasy feeling, and then when I looked at it I saw all this playonline crap. But I got extra information, and I found the game easier to play without the strategy guide! I realized that after speaking to every character in an area you can proceed the game with their hints! making some side quests much easier.
