Although it's a score worth a listen to, I was really disappointed with JNH's work on Catching Fire. It's below his usual quality of music, and WAY below the bar he set for himself with the first Hunger Games film.
I didn't feel like there was a lot of originality or variety in Catching Fire, whereas Hunger Games had a lot of both. I understand the need to keep some musical themes similar between films in a franchise to show growth of a character, scene or whatever, but Catching Fire recycled a lot of themes from the first film without really updating them to fit with the sequel. The only cue I can think of that was nicely re-used and updated was the "Victor's Interview" cue... it was similar enough to the "Tribute Interview" cue from the first film to be recognizable, but different enough that it was its' own track. The music from "The Tour", "A Quarter Quell", "Katniss is Chosen", "Let's Start" and the tribute parade are almost beat-for-beat recycled from the first film's soundtrack. The Catching Fire score itself too reuses a lot of themes from it's own score. The Katniss theme is used at least three times with little to no variation in the different tracks.
And although I know this is the director's choice, but there were a lot of scenes I was expecting to have awesome score tracks that didn't have any at all. The scenes where the Victors all raise their hands, when Cinna dies and when the Cornucopia spins were all scenes I thought JNH would work his magic on, but there are no tracks for any of them.

JNH just seemed really lazy in his scoring for this film, which is both ironic and sad considering he did a much better job scoring the first one when he was brought on late to production. Sorry for the rant, this was one of my most anticipated scores of the year and I felt severely let down by it.
