Patton is a 1970 American biographical war film about U.S. General George S. Patton
during World War II. It stars George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Michael Bates and Karl Michael Vogler.
It was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner from a script by Francis Ford Coppola and Edmund H. North,
who based their screenplay on the biography Patton: Ordeal and Triumph by Ladislas Farago and
Omar Bradley's memoir A Soldier's Story. The film was shot in 65mm Dimension 150 by
cinematographer Fred J. Koenekamp and has a music score by Jerry Goldsmith.
Patton won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The opening monologue, delivered by
George C. Scott as General Patton with an enormous American flag behind him, remains an iconic
and often quoted image in film. The film was a success and has become an American classic.
In 2003, Patton was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the
Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".
Tora! Tora! Tora! (Japanese: トラ・トラ・トラ) is a 1970 American-Japanese war film that
dramatizes the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The film was directed by Richard Fleischer and
stars an ensemble cast, including Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, Sō Yamamura, E. G. Marshall,
James Whitmore and Jason Robards. The title is the Japanese code-word used to indicate that
complete surprise had been achieved. Tora (虎, pronounced [t�ɽ�])) literally means "tiger", but
in this case was an acronym for totsugeki raigeki (突撃雷撃, "lightning attack"). [So now you know!]
Fierce Creatures is a 1997 farcical comedy film. While not a direct sequel, Fierce Creature
s is something of a spiritual successor to the 1988 film A Fish Called Wanda. Both films star John
Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Michael Palin. Fierce Creatures was written by John Cleese,
and directed by Fred Schepisi and Robert Young. The film was dedicated to Gerald Durrell and
Peter Cook. Some scenes were filmed at Jersey Zoo, a zoological park founded by Durrell.
Fred Schepisi was called in to reshoot the last 25 minutes of the film and other sequences
throughout. Schepisi claims he tried to get the producers take out the opening 15 minutes, which
was done for a test screening, but then some of this footage was put back in, which Schepisi
thought killed the movie.
