Goldsmith's personal favorite among his own scores!

Islands in the Stream is a 1977 American drama film, an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's novel
of the same name. The film was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and starred George C. Scott, Hart Bochner,
Claire Bloom, Gilbert Roland, and David Hemmings.

The composer was enormously fond of the project and spoke of it often as the favorite score of all his work.
The score is based on a sublime main theme subjected to countless variations throughout the film, making
it seem as universal and all-embracing as the sea itself. Secondary material runs the gamut from bits of
Caribbean color to two powerful action sequences, but the musical highlight may be the 12-minute-long
sequence, “The Marlin,” in which Goldsmith creates a virtual tone poem that gets to the heart of George C.
Scott’s Hemingway-like main character and his moving relationship with his three sons.

I have the version released a few years ago which I would imagine is the original recording (it has all the Goldsmith isms as far as sound recording goes).

How is this one performance wise? I ADORE this score. Even if it weren't Goldsmith or someone I already adored, if I heard it, I'd have it. I love it.

Well it lacks the raw qualities that make the original recording so fantastic but it gives you a nice alternative perspective on the music. Certain instruments are more prominent in the Intrada version.

Been lookin for a fine rip of the Intrada version for ages....would appreciate the link immensely. Thank you.

I'd love to have the link for this if you're still sharing. I have (purchased) the original release of this as well as a second one that I have labeled as a FSM release. It might be the same as this one (I think it is) and I just labeled it wrong when I burned it into iTunes, but hey, there's one way to find out for sure. Thanks.

It's not the same. The FSM is the original soundtrack recording, this is a digital re-recording Goldsmith made when he was in Hungary for Lionheart.
