"Story of..." releases were 45-60minute LPs/compact cassettes/8-track tapes/reel to reels presenting abridged versions of popular movies using dialogue, music and sound effects from the original film. They sometimes also included voice-over narration. These releases are not to be confused with 'Read Alongs,' which were usually just short 7 inch, 45rpm single or EP releases.
They were particularly popular in the 1970s before home video.

I started this thread so that we can see what is currently available in lossless format (most are available in lossy format). This I have noted in bold. Below are the releases I am aware of. Please add to the thread if you know of any more, or even better, if you actually have lossless copies that you can share.

The Story of Star Wars (16bit and 24bit LP rips w/ booklet scans)
The Adventures of Luke Skywalker: The Empire Strikes Back (16bit and 24bit LP rips w/ booklet scans)
Return of the Jedi (16bit and 24bit LP rips)

Raiders of the lost Ark: The Movie on Record (this one is interesting and quite sought after because it contains audio takes that did not make it into the movie's final cut)
Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade (this was released on CD, so a direct rip should be possible)

Tron

The Black Hole

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Life of Brian

Apocalypse Now (double LP)

The Rescuers
The Jungle Book
Pete's Dragon

TV:
Dr Who: Genesis of the Daleks

The Saga of Battlestar Galactica

-------------------------------------

1. "The Story of Star Wars" 1977
A Twentieth Century Fox Release
Produced For Records by George Lucas and Alan Livingstone
Narrated by Roscoe Lee Browne
Long out-of-print

16-bit FLAC
Comments/requests in thread.

I'd be very interested in:

The Adventures of Luke Skywalker: The Empire Strikes Back (24bit LP rips w/ booklet scans)
Return of the Jedi (24bit LP rips)
Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade (this was released on CD, so a direct rip should be possible)
The Saga of Battlestar Galactica
The Black Hole

I believe I have the Story of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in FLAC form from my own rip.

---------- Post added at 10:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:19 AM ----------

Actually you can drop Empire Strikes Back and Battlestar Galactica. I found my FLAC rip copies of those.

Two to add that are CD-quality:

Willow
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Thanks, DavidRaphael.

Folks,

This is right up my alley. I am formatting Saturday Night Live 79' (vinyl), Jonny Quest Documentary (2hrs), The Hobbit 1977 (vinyl), The Return of the King 81' (vinyl), and WKBW's War of the Worlds 1968 (radio).

Give me some time, and I will get those. Probably Zippyshare. Unless another free-site is suggested. These are 320 (I do not know how to do FLAC; ...sorry). OK

Give me some time.

Splendid, thank you, TRXSCOR.

One remark, however: I see the files of Star Wars are in .wma format, and looking at the size of other packages, it seems they are not in lossless format either, which is what DavidRaphael started this thread for; but thanks for all these.

Surely some other user may help you with the conversion wav to flac. Anyone?

FLAC: Instead of ripping to MP3, rip instead to a lossless format such as WAV.
It's a shame when rare recordings get ripped to MP3, which is a compressed, inferior format. It's not the best way to preserve audio for posterity.

Lots of audio software converts WAV to FLAC (ie, Foobar, audacity), but you can also convert using FLACfrontend. It's very simple.
FLAC Frontend | Free Security & Utilities software downloads at SourceForge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/flacfrontend/)

note: never create a FLAC by converting from mp3, only from lossless formats

kooke and DavidRaphael,

I will give those a shot. Your right, the Star Wars is vinyl poor. The ESB is audio tape, I think, but the RotJ is vinyl (I think a good copy). The JQ is from digital to digital, SNL (vinyl-good), Hobbit and RotKing (D to D), and the WKBW (well,...even 1968 radio digital has flaws). You guys ask for the fun stuff, and I will try to FLAC what is appropriate, and send more. Thanks for the lifts, and good fun.

All the releases listed in my original post in bold are from clean vinyl copies (no pops or crackles) and were captured at 24bit, so no need to re-do them. These are about as good as we're going to get.
