Samurai Warriors

Okay, simple thread here. Samurai Warriors. Who here has it/played it? What is it like? Etc, etc.

Basically, Im thinking about getting this game, but before I do, Id like to get some input from those of you here, whove played it and your thoughts towards it.

Thanks.

If you ask me, it completely and utterly fails to live up to Dynasty Warriors. It's insanely hard, too complicated, and not really very fun. I'll take DW over this any day, tyvm.

It was nowhere near as good as DW. The Edit character mode sucked ass.

SW just felt stale. It felt like a generic DW.

Personally I prefer Samurai Warriors to Dynasty Warriors....well, except for Dynasty Warriors 3, I'm still a 3 fanboy so that's my no.1 Warriors game to this date. Samurai Warriors certainly feels different, for one the Musou/Story mode is character orientated as opposed to the kingdom/force drive behind Dynasty Warriors, personally I think this helps make some of the characters more likable. Although I have to say I'd hold out for Samurai Warriors 2 if I were you ( don't know what territory you're in but North America and Europe are both a September release ), 2 looks pretty promising from here. It's included a new mode "Sugoroku" which appears a bit like Monopoly or Mario party and they've ditched bow/ranged attacks ( not entirely it should be added ) in favour of a character specific special skill system.

Koji said it was good. I might buy it if it isn't a hack & slash. I like strategy.

well samurai warriors 2 coming out...
but about one you can compare it with DW series
good story fine characters long fight and boss battles
but you cant have fast killing and strong weapon and items
enemies are smarter with good AI in game
trap and obstacle and maze are more in game in some parts
you havent bodyguard but options are same...
onething...and that is when you come from past games
you will like this game for continue...
if you like characters of this game then continue...

I found Samurai Warriors to be rather... well, mediocre. The graphics for one thing were on par with DW2. I mean, look at what the privates look like in any DW, and they still have more features and character, than the privates in SW.

I'm not saying I dislike Samurai Warriors, far from it, as I find it to be slightly different to play than the Dynasty Warriors games. There are a few things which do annoy me about SW, but all in all, if you haven't played the DW games, SW is pretty good.

I'm still waiting for SW2 to be released here in AUS (By the end of the month, or so my local Electronics Boutique says), so I'm hoping KOEi has improved it somewhat more than the original.

IMO, SW (Sengoku Musou) is kinda better than DW (Shin Sangoku Musou). Why? Because we can change the voice language to its original: Japanese. And I love Japanese history than Chinese :D

I just bought Samurai Warriors 2 today (Gonna play it a bit later), and I have to admit, just by judging from appearances on the back of box, it does look nice. One thing which does annoy me a little bit, is that there is no 'Edit Officer' mode in this one. Methinx KOEI may be keeping that for Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends.

As a fan of both Chinese and Japanese legends, both series (Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors), I enjoy both.

IT's the best game eve, well, it and Dynasty warriors.
Samurai 2 has better graphics and music, and it's funny!
I nly own the first one tough.

Not better than DW4. But Samurai Warriors was pretty good. Ninjas get to take shortcuts. You go inside castles and have to avoid various traps, fight many enemies, and in certain missions you have look for the person you are trying to assassinate.

The music is pretty good...not rock at all though. It's got more of a techno-ish feel.

The main attraction for me was that this was a totally different set or characters and a different story from the DW series.

If you liked the DW series then you'd probably enjoy SW. I for one am done with the Musou series until the Gundam one comes out. I played SW2 and it just didn't keep me entertained very long...that's probably cuz the story was the same? I didn't play long enough to be sure of that.

SW2 pwns the crap out of SW1 by far. xD Its my favorite Koei game right now, next to DW4, which is probably my all-time favorite of the Musou series.

Can't wait for the XL! 3 new characters, 2 with Musou modes, and 1 returning general.

As a student of Japanese language and history, Samurai Warriors (and hopefully SW2 if the ebay doesn't fail me =^^=;;;) is my favorite. As for Dynasty Warriors, I just liked to play it more. Samurai Warriors in my opinion was much too short when compared to DW4 and 5, but when there's absolutely nothing else to do today, pop in SW or DW and hack the crap outta everybody. It'll at least keep you occupied...

btw, Okuni FTW
