What was your opinion of the voice acting in FFX? Were there certain characters you thought were well done, and others you didn't like so much? Did you love the whole cast, or do you not like voice acting in an FF Game in general.

Although I've heard a lot of people complain about the voice acting, I think it was decent, for a video game. I liked Yuna's voice (Hedy Burress) in particular.

I think voice acting in FFX was great because it really brings the game alive its the same with FFX-2. It makes the whole game seem real if you know what I mean?

I didn't think it was particularly bad, and even though the voices didn't sync with the video very well, they managed to pull together for some key moments.

Still, I thought Xenosaga's dubbing was much better. Even though a lot of the voices there were familiar, they did at least come from the A-list, which definitely showed in the overall quality of the voice acting. Square-enix should take a page out of that book, if you ask me.

It does make the game seem more alive since you're not just reading text box after text box.

However, since the japanese version is made first, the US and PAL versions won't have the same quality of sync; they're just dubbed over.

Well, you can look at anime dubbing and see that it is possible to sync voices pretty well. Square just didn't try very hard, I figure.

The voice dubbing was a definite plus to the gaming experience. I enjoyed it quite more, because when Im playing late at night, I dont fall asleep while reading. Though sometimes the voices werent in sync with the character speaking it was still understandable, I mean its pretty much an experiment.

I havent played FFX-2 but I heard the facial expressions and the voice dubbing was made much better than FFX

voice of FFX was ok imo. if you played xenosaga you will know which one is better for sure. most of xenosaga's english voices doesn't fit the chars seriously. it was really annoying -_-; but i never had annoyance from FFX voices.

Yuna also had the tendency to pause a lot when speaking. As if the words coming out were way to hard to say..

I liked Yuna's sort of awkward way of speaking. I thought it suited her character. And in X-2, when she's more confident and such, she doesn't do that much at all.

I can't say that I liked it, because it did sort of annoy me, but it went with her character like you said. If she didn't do that she wouldn't seem as un-confident.

Well I think Yuna sounds like a retard Im very sorry to say it but she just sounds stupid. The others are ok but not very good.

But voice acting makes it a lot more alive!!

It was good idea, however pretty poorly done. I thought there were far too many awkward pauses, especially when Yuna or Tidus were speaking. I also despised Tidus' voice actor, one of the more annoying voices I've ever heard. The only voice actor I actually liked was Wakka's.

I don't think it was the voice actor so much as the voice he used for Tidus. He did the voice for Shuyin, and I thought he did a pretty good job.

Maybe Tidus is supposed to be annoying? I really don't know.

my friend pointed this out and explained why it is. if u listen out u can hear that yuna repeats the exact same voice clips a few times- i think the pauses are where they are cutting the clips together.

on the whole i like the ffx voice overs- they are a little ott which works for a videogame. i didn't mind tidus' voice in game, but his monologues were painful. the other actors were good throughout especially wakka.

The voice actor for Kimahri and Wakka is actually the same guy: John DiMaggio, more infamous for voicing Bender in the Futurama series. That alone makes him a cool choice.

(Sorry Katharina, I stole your thunder there. :( )

I actually thought the voice acting throughout the game was very strong. People complain that Tidus whined too much during the game. The guy was damn confused all the way throughout the game. You try being yanked out of your home world and into that scenario. I'd be a little complaining too. James Arnold Taylor emoted very well, especially when Tidus finally discovered the truth.

I also think that Auron's voice actor (Matt McKenzie) was awesome in the cool, calm, collected sense of the character he was portraying, with the proper outburst of emotion when it was required.

I totally agree with Bahumut ZERO. Tidus whined once in a while, but his voice suited him, as well as the other's voices too. Tho only voice that really bothered me was Yuna's, but it needs to be the way it is.

When it comes to voice acting in these games, English voices are usually poor. I may be biased cause I play the japanese versions first. I liked Tidus', Auron's and Rikku's voice. The lip sync however, is always poorly done.

The japanese voices are a lot better imo, especially Seymour's. They're even better in the FMVs. The most noticable difference would be when first meeting Yuna as she comes out of the Chamber of the Fayth in Besaid temple. The voice is not husky, is perfectly clear, matches the lips perfectly, sounds like it's coming from Yuna's mouth and voice box and has a slight echo because of the place she's in.

English version... completely dubbed over. Flat, husky voice, flat sound, absolutely atrocious with the lip sync. They didn't change that at all. It's still japanese.

Ya the japanese was much better. At the end of the game when Yuna says her famous qoute [in the japanese],the voice sounds really great. In the english, when she says 'Never forget them',it sounds robotic.

And even if some voices seem to be a little annoying once a while, who cares? Who has a perfect voice in real life? Actually, what is a good voice? ;)

i thought all the voices were well suited too, but there were indeed some awkward pauses which i dont think was the actors' faults.

it took too long to sit and listen to them talk, so i would read it and just skip on ahead.

I thought that it was really cool that the characters got voices in this FF, but I thought some of them were very poorly acted. Also, some of the dialouge was just pitiful. Some of Yuna's comments in battle are soooo stupid. Maybe they wouldn't be quite so bad if the girl just came out and said them, instead of trying to make it all dramatic.

My favorites are Lulu and Auron, possibly because they speak the least. I felt that Yuna was SO overacted vocally. A little goes a long way, especially when you are an RPG character...

the voice acting was cool! i liked auron's voice! i think all the voices were well suited to the characters, but yuna's voice was alittle too quiet, i supose that was just refleting on the character. Tidus' voice did get very irritating, i mean the whole 'clueless' thing was cute, but it did get annoying......in the FMV their voices sounded fine, because the sound and graphics are greatly inhanced, in the FMV you can hear every little jingle, but in the normal play, you can here it as well. (if you know what i mean)

i think wakka's voice was the weirdest! a white/tan jamacan with ginger hair! i think his whole character was weird to be honest! i think the voices were better in the middle to end, as tidus wasn't so clueless and they were more melowed out.

voice acters beyond FF;

yeh like 'Kimhari must protect yuna' or 'Kimhari does not know' he spoke like a retard basicly, but i thought the scene where he smiled at tidus was sweet, sweet and scarey! O.o

i think they did very well on account of their first try, the voice acting in x-2 was also very good (as i saw it) but rikku's voice (in both) was alittle irritating, as was tidus' after awhile, can't wait to see what the voice acting is like in 12 ^_^

FFX's voice acting imo is okay..i just didnt like Tidus and Seymour's voice. I liked Auron and Lulu's the most. In X-2, i find the dubbing better and more lively. I think Paine's voice actor did a very good job there.

I think the guy who played Auron was GREAT! I don't know what the Japanese Auron was like but he can't have been as good as the English Auron. Lulu was okay, but the rest I found just annoying! Kimhari I didn't like cos it was just lame. As for Rikku and Wakka... omg! And don't get me started on Tidus and Yuna

I think Auron's voice for both of the versions were done very well. The english voice makes Auron seem calmer somewhat. But I'm biased; I almost always prefer the japanese voices, since that version is made first.

It does seem surprising that the same voice actor (english) did both Wakka and Kimahri since the two voices are very different.

Voice acting was a great idea, i think the voices were perfectly suited, but those actors needed a bit more practice, there were hundreds of long pauses in speech, and they often seemed unsure of what they were talking about! Great idea though!
