I don't know what it is with Zimmer, Balfe, Djawadi, Jablonsky and his other cohorts, but I don't think they understand what subtlety is. No, it doesn't necessarily mean being quiet, but it also means allowing the music to breathe every once and a while, it should be as organic as the emotions are in the film. There are some really interesting developments in this score, but it angers me how refined and synthetic it all sounds and at every turn are we meant to feel that something epic is going on?

I had heard at one point that Horner was going to score this and everyone had their doubts saying that he overstates and regurgitates his other work. Even if that were true I'm sure we would have witnessed a score which had gravitas and emotional depth. Not fucking guitars, pounding bass rhythms and bwaaaaams all the time. There is a time and place for that my friends, and that was 2010's Inception.

Just gonna post that I saw this movie last week, and have been listening to this regularly since then, to people complaining about this, have you seen the movie? It works very well in it. Reminds me of people's reactions to Paul Leonard-Morgan's score to Dredd in that people absolutely trashed it, but after seeing how it worked in the film, had no problem with it. Think people shouldn't trash stuff until they've seen it in the context it was intended.

I trashed the Dredd score before even seeing it but since I really like to watch this remake that's what I did. Guess what my opinions didn't change at all, it still trash! But to be fair to the composer, his recent score for Walk With Dinosaurs is good and I like it!
