Ok so correct me if im wrong but there hasnt been a thread about the card system yet?
A cracking addition to the game or a complete waste of story time?
And whats the best combination of 5 cards to play with?
IMHO the card game is awesome and keeps me interested in something other than the plot, plus its a nice break too when your levelling up.
I like the CC Card group and the whole PuPu card quest, but the Queen of Cards quests were kinda annoying.
Thoughts?

I am trying to get every card in my game this time. But the best cards are the Characters Cards. But that don't mean you can't lose, cause of that stupid Random, Same, Plus and all these shit.

I've opened a similar thread about the FF9 card game, but I actually prefer the FF8 card game, but you beat me to opening it. I have managed to get all the cards and all you get is a little star by the card menu. But I did use gilgamesh (i think) card into 10 Holy Wars (or is it seifer?) for the final battle and trying to beat Omega Weapon. someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I love the FF8 card game. It's fun and very interesting, and it's not too complex either. The only things I hate are the Random and Direct: Trade rules. Those suck, and are hard to win against.

You know, you can get every card in the game at Disk 4, if you completed the CC sidequest at Balamb Garden. Once there, the players have all of the rare cards (regardless of who had them first) so you can win them all ('cept for Pupu!). This way, you'll be able to get the cards you missed because the side quest is either impossible (Queen of Cards) or some cards are just to hard to win (Alexander and Laguna).

And, if you Card Mod a card, CC Diamond usually gets the card back (somehow) so you can Card Mod one rare card, then win it back, then Card Mod it again, and so on. I think CC Diamond starts off with the Random rule, so make sure you get rid of it beforehand.

And in my opinion, the best card hand is Squall, Seifer, Edea, Rinoa, and Doomtrain.

Yeah all those rules can be a killer, particularly when theres no save point anywhere near! What I usually do is play a game in Baamb Garden before I go travellin' and then comine their rules with Open, cos at least then you can see what tricks they got in their hand rather than playing blind.
Didnt know that Vivi, ta. Will have a go at that!
I think its Laguna (i may very well be wrong) that has the holy wars, but they are really useful against Ultimecia as well!
IMHO I reckon the best hand is to have cards strong on specific corners and a generally all rounder e.g Quezacotl, Siren, Sacred, Ifrit and (at the moment) Catopleplas.

I can't remember my ideal cards anymore.. (long time ago)
but i did like the game, only card queen was indeed impossible, but i never knew you could get the others in disc4
next time i will play the game i will try to get all the cards in that way!

and i agree with Vivi
Random id most anoying, and when playing direct, i just play very defencive and try to flip only one card or so...
