There have been rumors floating around that Final Fantasy will cease to be created after the 15th game. Does anyone have any sites that says this or anything similar to this? What are your opinions on the whole idea? Please dont be shy, id like to hear as much as possible cuz im shocked

Nah, the only thing is that Square have bought the domain names until FF15.com, so people have concluded that this means there'll be AT LEAST 15 FF games.
It doesn't mean that there'll only be 15.

"Only", haha. :D

I assume no one really knows when this series is going to end. Could go on forever, for as long as there's Square, and FF sells.

Marceline

I seriously doubt the FF series will end at 15. The games sell too well- I can't imagine they'll stop making the games when they're still making so much money off them.

It's almost a shame though. I'm afraid the FF series will wind up ending less then gracefully, and that's not what I want to see happen to my favorite game series. :(

even when they stop making ff games, it will never end as everyone will still play the games. look at ff7, its nearly 8 years old and people are still playing.

What are you talking about man? Alot of people still play 6, 5, 4, and even 1.

Put THAT in your... console and..... play it... bad joke....

anyway, who said the series had to end with a number? You've got FF tactics, FF chrystal chronicles, and plenty of other square-enix games in the future to look forward too.

and as Sephiroth's Brother said: "it will never end as everyone will still play the games."

like everyone had just said ff will probably never end in our lifetimes. But the reason is just like one of you have alrdy mentioned is that ff 1-9 are still selling hundreds of copies a year.
as long as their is love for the game and money for the company it will not end

It'll end when the games stop making tons of money.

I don't see that happening anytime soon. They'd probably have to have a couple *really* bad games in a row for that to happen.

I already see the downturn in quality in the FF series, so you're not far off.

But FF will keep selling millions, so square-enix will keep pumping them out while leaving other great series on the back burner (star ocean, vagrant story, chrono)

As long as final fantasy does not get to jump and use guns like in FFx-2 which was not really good at all.

Prak
08-14-2004, 05:57 PM
If you feel like guns ruin a Final Fantasy game, does that mean that you hate 7, 8, and 10 also? And if jumping is so bad, I guess ladders shouldn't exist either. Or elevators, for that matter.

Jeez... think before you speak.

Omega sephiroth
08-14-2004, 07:01 PM
No i would hate if ff turned all into guns and i dident say i hated ladders of elivaters i said i would hate being able to jump freely.Next time read properly.

Prak
08-14-2004, 07:11 PM
Then your entire post was pointless. FFX-2 didn't have any more guns than any other FF game, nor were you able to jump freely. And there's been absolutely no sign that guns would ever become dominant.

Anyway, what's wrong with being able to jump freely? It would just be a new dynamic to the gameplay, as long as it wasn't overdone.

KREAYSHAWN
08-15-2004, 12:32 AM
There'd be nothing wrong if the system was implemented properly, but they ususally aren't in slow turn-based games where they add dodgy jumping bits for no apparent reason.

iirc

Marceline
08-17-2004, 01:23 PM
I didn't like the jumping in X-2 at all, but I'd personally love to see a jump button in a FF game. Square did an RPG with a jump button once before (Threads of Fate), and I thought it was pretty awesome.

They were probably bought for the specific purpose of selling them to Square-Enix. People who do that suck.

My dad had a domain name once that he didn't renew. A couple months after it expired, he tried to get it back and found out someone had bought it just so they could make him buy it back for an outrageous amount.

There is no reason to belive that Final Fantasy will ceace when Hirinobu Sakaguchi retires after XIII, someone else will probibly continue to create the games as it is making mega bucks for SE and people still want to play them.
I think as long as there is a demand there will always be Final Fantasy.

I am also curious to know where you found your infomation. If you read that from a reliable source then I will be the first to admit im wrong but I cant see Final Fantasy ending at XIII even if the world was ending.

By the way its PROJECT....

Well Hirinobu Sakaguchi isn't exactly making FFXII for that matter. I remember reading that the people who are making it just referr back to him to see if he likes what they are doing. He has the person who crated FF Tactics in charge of FFXII. Which to me is a good indication that it will not end when Hirinobu Sakaguchi retires.

My arguments a bit Two-sided. I don't want the series to end, but [like others have already said] I can imagine it going down hill if it carries on for too long.

In my eyes, Enix have already started to slip in the production of Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy X-2 is prime a example of what I base my opinion on. The whole prospect of X-2 is terrible. Surely Enix knew that girls play Final Fantasy too?

Im not keen on [the idea of] XII either. They seemed to have changed so much [not that change is bad] that Im not sure its going to appeal to me anymore.

So, this is what I fear may be Enix's biggest problem with continuing - Audiences.

ha thank you!
if i could figure out how to rate up you would get some ^^

they slipped an ff9. it was said to be thew worst so far ( when it came out )
so, they tryed somthing new ffx had the grid .. i dont know about you all but in not a fan of the grid. the game was eye-candy .. it did look good... but the game play was too easy.

x-2 was bad .. i mean major, the npc's were terable, the game was bad, the music was terrable ( the only good part was the opening menu ) the only thing about ffx-2 that i liked was the fmv it was impressive, very enjoyable.

ff11 .. i play it ... its good .. very good .. addivtive ....

then another slip .. ff12 sounds bad ... the story dosnt seem that good.

then advent children ... aaaah yes , the most popular RPG ever created ( dont hold me to that) you can see what they were thinking ... until someone said "lets mave a movie!", hmmmm.

so after the exitement of this.. and the letdown when we all found out it was a movie....

dirge of cerburus was announced! .....

ok so my point is even is i didnt get the order right .. or some of what i have said is wrong. you get my point,i hope.
they should quit. no more. enough. if dirge humiliates ff7 like x-2 did to 10 then ............

The thing is with enix is that they have an absolutly gigantic audience so will not realise if a few million stop buying the game, to me Fantasy is a getaway my own little world where i'm in charge and i can do what i like... so i will be incredibly sad to see it go, but like a few people i do agree that the storylines are getting tired now, it's all about the same thing, guy meets girl, guy tries it on with girl, girl not interested at the time, girl comes round, guy gets girl, game finishes. It needs a big rejuvination in a big way, so the platform works but it can only go on for so long... how long is anybody's guess, i hope it goes for 15 at least.

even if they stop making games in the numbered series they will probably go back and make sequels to some of them or turn some of them into movies or they will probably just slow down with production cuz they are making tons of them in a short amount of time but even if the guy retires they will probably keep making them becuase the fans will probably never let it end.

No matter how good something is, and end is always in sight. The final curtain for the Final Fantasy series could be with the release of FFXII or with FF50, but it WILL happen.

Ever since Hironobu Sakaguchi was sacked from Square, he is only referred to in the later FF's (FF7 and onwards) as being the creator. The last FF he had worked on, as Director, was FFVI.

Regarding towards ideas of sequels and such, Sakaguchi never wanted to do sequels to the games. To him, each one was a complete story in it's own right.

Personally (I'm talking about my own opinions and such.), I do think they've dragged FF way too long. All the prequels and sequels and such, I just don't really see the need for them. I love the FF series, hell I love a lot of RPG's (Whatever one's are released here in Australia that is), but the FF series was the one (In particular FFVII) which brough RPG's out from the niche market they were originally in, out into the mainstream market. For that, I'll always love and respect the FF series.

But as the omnipotent entity known as 'Q' said in the final episode of Star Trek : The Next Generation - All good things, must come to an end. (Talking in regards to the end of the TNG series that is), the final curtain call for Final Fantasy is approaching. If Square continues to 'milk' the FF series for all it's worth, they could end up spoiling the reputation they earned with the success of the very same series which saved their butts back in the '80s'.

Sequels and prequels... they just don't seem right to me. I mean, what made FFX so special it had to have a sequel? But I've gone off topic.

I hope that with the release of FFXII, Square Enix manages to go back to what made Final Fantasy so special, to each and every one of us. Personally, I think Square should finish the FF series while it's still 'King of the Hill', so to speak, and not let it's shine get diluted and covered with rust, with each subsequent game they release.

Rapture

Terra Fire
01-12-2005, 10:01 PM
well the thing is no one is really sure when it will stop...well some people have an idea but thats not the point. The only problem with FF is most of the time it's storylines are all kinda similar...now some people will disagree with me i'm sure but look at the facts you start with a party it gradually grows larger (around 6-8 max i think) then you move onto the main story line which is usually defeat the bad guy save the world/universe from destruction or enslavement. You train up you save you complete the game...................heck i love the FF series i don't wan't it to stop it is fantastic :) but it has got to stop sooner or later i hope it not now it'd be great to see it go through to the twenties but seriously to attract more people you need to be more creative new plots.............anyways...once again i love FF :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

p.s the enslavement part think of FF8 Ultimecia she basically controlled the world.....kinda

Alastor
01-12-2005, 10:11 PM
Of course it,ll have to end , you cant keep making games with the same /battle system/saving the world story. Soon its bound to get stale , they might aswell think of fresh ideas. I like ff but sometimes enough is enough...

TrekkiesUnite118
01-13-2005, 02:20 AM
well the reason why ff goes so long is becuase each time its a different story and they change the battle system a bit i think they should keep making them but change the story up a bit keep the battle system turn based but change it around a bit but the number on thing is quit making stupid stories with stupid FAG main characters. but i do agree that making all these sequels and prequels are dumb the only sequel i think i justified is FFVII AC because FFVII was a severe cliffhanger.
