Note: this album goes down as one of my absolute favorite film scores and it's my pleasure to be able to present this work to you in this deluxe edition form.

For years, there was an 11 track album arrangement of the music which left out some of the additional music. Previously, the only way to get some of the extra missing cues was from the Blackest Heart Media comic book which included a special remastered presentation of the score. That music is what track 21 "The Beyond Suite" is sourced from hence the much louder audio. The louder audio does not affect playback though. In fact, I dig the higher volume as it does not clip or distort to my ears and requires very little dialing up and down during playback at any time but I still prefer the album for other reasons.

In 2011, an unknown-to-me label (Beat Records) released an expanded version which includes 9 never-before-released cues. I believe that edition to be more or less complete. You may find you will need to do your own re-arranging for this portion of the set as there is quite a bit of repetition.

The downside to the BHM release is that BHM incorporated atmospheric sound effects tracks in between each score cue so for me to create the suite and help it flow better, I resorted to substituting the album version in instances where sound effects play over the ends of certain tracks. The result is (as to be expected from me) seamless and odds are you may never spot the 2 instances I used them in unless you meticulously check the BHM raw contents versus the album.

Another problem is that not every score cue from the BHM edition would seamlessly mix into the next cue so to avoid re-arranging, I took some liberties by fading out the ends of problematic cues and applying a reverb filter to create a more-natural sounding transition to the next cue.

Overall, I find myself listening to the suite more frequently than the album as it presents the music in a more linear fashion which creates the greatest satisfaction for me. Not to mention it makes for great background music.

Like the film itself, this score is something special. Very little is known of it and the creation of its score but all I can say is I would've loved to have attended the recording sessions for this. The choral bits underscoring The Beyond's forces are some of the most haunting I've heard in some time when played alongside the more melodic material, such as the ghost Emily's piano theme. There's also a welcome splash of jazz thrown in which only help to give you a break from all the carnage going on around the album.

Without further adieu, I offer you the chance to venture forth and take a plunge into one of the 70's greatest creations from one of the most twisted Italian cinema minds: Lucio Fulci.

"And you will face the sea of darkness, and all therein that may be explored."

For those whom have patiently plunked themselves down in darkness' waiting room for the new link, here is a new link: Microsoft OneDrive - Access files anywhere. Create docs with free Office Online. (http://adf.ly/1OFmZS).

This new deluxe edition re-organizes the latest Beats Record album into mostly chronological order. Several pieces are split up in the film or replayed multiple times throughout. This doesn't mimic that but does present the cues in a more film-like presentation. The suite included on the previous set which is sourced from the Blackest Heart Media album is also included.

Some editing was required to bring it to a closer film presentation. Nothing comprehensive but I did find myself finding pieces that play in the film which weren't included on the main program source but was instead located in the alternate pieces. I merely spliced those one or two instances into the main program to complete the pieces. I also did some re-arranging. In compiling a film version, some pieces in the source weren't chronological and some parts don't play at all in the film so I had to use my imagination in organizing those unused pieces. The alternates play at the end.

Enjoy!
