"The excellence of Williams is demonstrated yet again through this mesmerizing score. Following Williams� more deep, sentimental yet passionate style of the nineties heard in scores like: Schindler�s List, Seven Years in Tibet, and Stepmom, Williams taps into the depths of the human experience and does so with all the expected magnificence of a Williams score.
Without a doubt this is one of the finest scores in the last few years. One reason for this is Williams� employment of the strings. Despite the poor film's reception, the album was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score (where it lost to the score of Le violon rouge), and for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score (where it lost to the score of La leggenda del pianista sull'oceano).
Unfortunately I didn't find any infomation about this release nor the ripper, except the artwork designed for it in 2011 and the cue sheet (http://www.jwfan.com/?p=3202" target="_blank) shared 6 years before. For those willing to study the set, the included spectrograms may help to infer the nature of some tracks' sources.
There are no dialogs (and, of course, no narrator), but some sound effects are heard, not long nor very loud: some rain, seagulls, distant thunders or barks. I didn't watch the movie but found those ambients so fitting to the music that enjoyed the extra sounds, being my only complaint that sometimes they're cut off too abruptly. But a few SFX are minor nuisances over the nearly 1h 20' of great John Williams music in this expanded edition of Angela's Ashes.
