My little brother has been badmouthing FF games ever since I started playing them years ago. He said they're long, boring, too complicated, and don't have enough action.

This morning, he called me to get advice on how to win the first blitzball game in FFX. I talked to him while he played and afterward got treated to his earsplitting victory cheers. Then, when he saw the next few FMV's, all he could talk about was how cool Auron and Anima are until I finally got him to shut up and stop running up my cell minutes.

HOOK'D!

Has anyone else known people who bashed the games, then turned out to love them?

At grade school, all my friends hated FF. So one day, I let my friend borrow FFX. But he's like a dumbass and he rarely played it!! I think it was too hard for him... Haha.

So they probably still hate it. My sister doesn't like them too much. I think she should try one some day.

Well, there are always going to be people who hate certain games until they play it. Then, they fall in love with it. Take me for example:

I hated FFVII before I started playing it. And now, after having finished it months ago, I hate it again.

It really bugs me that none of my friends like final fantasy! The only one I can really talk about it to is my brother. Being that I'm a girl, I have many friends that are girls that would rather "paint nails and do make-up" but id rather play sports and final fantasy. They all hate it, and they wont even try to play it!

"whats this crap? I have to READ?!"

"This isn't fighting, they are taking turns!"

"What's this philosophy and drama crap? I just wanna kill stuff.

"TOO MANY NUMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!"

"This classical-like music sucks, I want rap!"

"This game is too hard! I actually have to THINK and use my BRAIN during battles, therefore it sucks!"

These are basically the responses I get from people who don't like Final Fantasy/Squaresoft games and RPG's in general.

Note: These are all actual quotes.... except the last one

Generally speaking, all my friends who are gamers have at least some appreciation for the FF series, and the rest of my friends are either not gamers, or not that type of gamer.

I have quite a few friends that prefer Suidoken to FF, but I'm not going to argue that with them.

The odd thing is you really don't need to do a lot of thinking or be very smart to beat a FF game, you only need patience. Which is one trait that many gamers raised on Doom and it's like lack.

*nods* That's very true. FF games aren't especially challenging, but you need a lot a patience. Playing an rpg like that is kind of like reading a book, at least to me. If the person is the sort who enjoys sitting down to read a book, they probably won't get that into FF.

I play Disgaea and Ninja Gaiden when I want to be challenged. I play FF games for the story.

hey. i'm a girl too and i love the final fantasy games. i only started wearing makeup about a year ago but i've been playing games that might be considered guy games since i was little. the only final fantasies that i can play (at my house) are Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III (IV and VI for those of you in japan). i've annoyed my brother because i've spent so much time on III (and restarted multiple times).

yeah, my friend thought FF games were crap and forced him to play FFIX. I lent it to him and he loved it and then got FFVIII, FFVII, FFI, FFII, FFIV, FFV, FFX and FFX-2 over the next two years. Now he likes it, thanks to me...

My sister doesn't like gaming at all.
But for some reasons she seems to know who Cloud Strife is.

(She also knows who Leisure Suit Larry is though)

All of my siblings like it, surprisingly, but no one's as dedicated as I am!! I spend hours and hours at a time playing, and they get bored quickly! My sister never used to like gaming, but now she likes it more.

chorns, the average age around here is about 18 or 19, I believe, but there are plenty of people older and younger then that.

My younger siblings like FF because of me and my older brother, but they really didn't need any sort of convincing to fall in love with the games. ^^

lol I would fit in the "older" part of that quote :(

My sister used to liked the SNES FFs (IV and VI), but lost her interest in the series since FFVII...some of my cousins still like them, I get a call from them once in a while about how to do a certain a part of one of the games. I'm still the only one who has tried FFXI though...which makes sense, I'm the only one among them who has a credit card and can afford to pay for the game :p

EDIT : Oh, and about what Durandal and Ndi said about the challenging part and being smart to beat a FF... I agree entirely, but just wanted to point out that generally speaking, RPGamers seem to be smarter than the average gamer...Also, strangely enough, all the RPGamers I personnaly know are quite fluent in both French and English (I'm from Quebec, we mainly speak French for those that still didn't know.) and that fact alone is proof of a slightly higher intellect, as it has been scientifically proven that people that can talk more than one language are generally smarter than others. Yeah, sure, it's not "always" like that and I'm far from calling people that can only speak one language stupid but it's a common tendency that can hardly be denied.

My sister rarely plays Final Fantasy because she finds it way to complicated (thus she plays only tomb raider) but I got her playing it, and now she asks me for strategies and stories of all the FF games.

.. I never used to like FF now that I think about it, not until my cousin let me play for a few min. then I was hooked and bought a playstation and all the games :p
