Cell-phone game.

Before Crisis is a prequel to FF7, taking place six years before the original game.
You play as either a female or a male member of the Turks, both new characters who had no part in FF7.

The game is to be released in September in Japan. A release elsewhere hasn't been announced yet.

In this context, you can keep in mind that Square Enix has started releasing some of their cell-phone games in Europe, so it is not totally unlikely that Before Crisis will make its way there.

Well, this seems a little dead =X So here's some things that I know about BC: It will likely be released in the U.S. sometime, based on some trademarks S.E. has registered here for Before Crisis and Dawn of Souls.

The Japanese phone being used for BC is the p900iv, which is the same phone that Cloud will be using in the Advent Children movie.

The magic system in Before Crisis will be quite unique, utilizing the phone's picture capabilities for materia. From a translation from vJump magazine: (from adventchildren.net)
Pictures you take with the phone's camera are turned into Materia, with different magic depending on each picture. If you don't equip Materia it'll have an effect on your magic and attacks.



Man, just for the materia system alone I think I'd want to try this game out.

Yeah, that looks like the one. The screen can be flipped around and onto the back of the cell phone for easier carrying. The camera lens thing is on the other side, opposite the record button.

Does anyone know if Cloud and Zack are going to be in the game? I saw the pics. Love the poster. I read all that I could about the game so far but kinda curious if there is a site with more. Or maybe the same sites just where my blind illiterate a** might find it.

To my knowledge, I think characters from FF7 will appear in BC as "summons" where they come in and do something for you. Don't ask me for a source, I can't really remember where I read that, but you can find a picture of Sephiroth being "summoned" somewhere, though it might be a scripted sequence.

Sounds Interesting. Dont know if that will work to well. But with my experience the only thing that Square has not done well is FF X-2. (My Opinion) Ok. Thanks for that tid bit of info.

have any of you heard of the new materia system you take a photo with the phone and then you can use it as a materia (don't know the details sorry)

I noticed that the picture of the "male and female characters, both who had no part in ff7" looked remarkably like Elena and Reno. Judging by their hair and the male's rod. I'm getting this from that second picture that shows them with their backs to one another. Also, I would speculate that you'd meet those characters like zach and cloud during the game randomly. It wouldnt surprise me, considering that Zach is in SOLDIER and Cloud is a Shinra soldier, and Sephiroth is in SOLDIER, too.. And so they'd all have connections because they all work for Shinra.

That site looks good. I really hope that they translate it into english. I'd love to see what it says.

Dangit! I wish that FOMA P900iV phone would come out in the USA...

But sadly, Ive heard news that BC will only be brought through the FOMA N900iG which is ugly compared to the other phone.

it seems all the Turks are there ( including Vincent) Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth are also clearly present but who the others are I dont know...

This stupid BC game is the reason why Advent Children keeps getting delayed.

I'm not sure if it'll be available to Nokia phones...

The game requires a certain type of phone...it has to at least have the ability to take pictures--
One of the ways you get Materia in the game is by taking pictures of something that's the right color of the materia...

BC does sound pretty cool, shame its just for phones those :(

trust me i saw aerith, president shinra rufus and some other ppl, they'll definitely be in even if cloud makes a small appearance

Some people are (or may have already completed) an emulated, translated, and downloadable copy of FFVII:BC for your computer.

You're not alone in your thoughts... I, for one, think that buying a cell phone for games is ridiculous. I use a phone to talk, and I use a gameboy to play games... >_>

the phone you're talking about is outrageous... @ 400-800 dollars it somtimes cost more than a ps3, i m sure their quite a few people are looking to circumvent that.

exclusivity sucks, although theres not much one can do but complain about a japanese company releasing a game exclusively for their japanese fanbase, and using the phone format. and complaining about a company favouring their local fanbase is ridiculous.

I cannot find the link to the translation anywhere at the moment, but I do know that it is out there somewhere. As large of a fan base as FF7 is, one can almost guarantee that there is a translation floating about somewhere.

What I did discover was that the Before Crisis game utilizes the camera phone (as read here (http://www.beforecrisis.net/ff7bc/info/gameplay.php) in the second paragraph) and because of this feature, it probably won't be converted for PC usage.

Im very angry about the decisions of Square Enix... no more good news since Playstation 1

this thread is ancient so heres an update, the NTT Docomo p900 phone is outdated hence on ebay for a few quid, so now u can get your very own for as little as $10 (or as much as a gazilion as ebay goes) i think the game cost more than the phone now.

and yeah like most Docomo phones the p900 is locked to the Docomo network so you wont be able to use it for much else, but i think you could turn it on just to play the game...

All the reason for them to at least port it to the PSP in my opinion.
