When you get up and go out to but a brand new spankinggame, what do you look for in that.
Do you have to just read the backof the game to be convinced or must you read a review, or play a demo..?
Also i wondered what would make a type of game itself, in better wording what would make a FPS good and original etc.
Anmy opinions as to answering my forst and second questions.

I mostly look for either the big M on the cover, or near naked ladies on the back.

I watch demos, play demos, see movies or trailers from the game. Read (p)reviews or sometimes try the game if a friend has it. If I like it muchly enough I will purchase it.

All I need is several reviews, a trailor, and the creator of the game (i.e. square-enix, ubisoft)

I don't really look much into games lately. I just have this feeling with the games I buy that they are going to be worth the money. Take Tales of Symphonia for example. I read nothing about that game before purchasing it, and it is already one of my favorite games.

I just have a knack for getting the good ones.

Well, I read a lot of gaming magazines, so I've always got a little list in my head of games that I'm interested in. I don't always need to read a review to buy something- sometimes, I've heard good things about it from other people, and sometimes, I'm just that excited about it, but normally, I do glance at reviews to make sure there's nothing that would make the game not worth my money.

Also, if something happens to catch my eye, is pretty cheap, and my friends at EB say decent things about it, I'll pick it up and give it a try.

For completely new games that I haven't heard of, I read up on it and look at its reviews. I'm quite cautious on those games so I always try and get a rental copy or borrow it before I actually buy it.

Other games I get are game that I've played round a friends or a demo I guess. Trailers help.

But recently I haven't bought many games. I just buy the ones that I know of and I like them.

I usually follow the development of high-profile games, so I have a good idea by the time they're released whether I'd like them or not.

For lesser known games, I usually become aware of them after reading a review or hearing about it from a friend. Occasionally, I just pass by one and decide it looks interesting, so I'll research it a bit.

There's one friend in particular whose taste in games runs so parallel to mine that it's scary, so I'll buy most anything he recommends. The only things we differ on are Final Fantasy games. He loves VII and I don't. I love IX and he hates it.

I think the main influence for me, is the reputation of the game, and obviously, it can be a bit unreliable at times. For example - some people bought FFX-2 because X was good, but X-2 turned out to be a little disappointing for some gamers.

Then, theres reviews and previews which help the newer games intorduced.
