Easily VI.

It had a huge cast of characters, and it was impossible not to fall in love with pretty much all of them.

I prefer FFIV. I was very intrigued by the love triangle between Cecil, Kain, and Rosa. Plus Rydia ages into an adult during the game, Palom and Porom turn their will to stone to save the lives of the party, and Yang sacrifices himself to save the Dwarves. It was an excellent cast.

There are 14 characters if you get them all.

Well, what do you expect from a machine that is only capable of delivering 16-bits? Have you forgotten that both FFIV and FFVI sported the same graphical capabilities? It's just that the graphics looked better with FFVI.

Why is it that so many FFVII fans never played VI?

Anyway, IV and VI easy had the best cast of characters, when it comes to character development and a good balance.

Although it comes close, I say:

VI: 1st

IV: 2nd

X: 3rd

IX: 4th

VII: 5th

V: 6th

I serioulsy need to get around to playing VIII

It seems to me that almost every big FFVII fan started with that game- the fans who started on older games didn't love it as much.

I don't know why so many people haven't gone back and played the older FF games though- since they've released Anthology and Chronicles, there's really no excuse.

Is Zelda an RPG? If so, that was my first, then Pokemon eased me into turn-based combat, and my first FF was VIII. Squall whined way too much, and I was unimpressed with the final boss. I've only played VII, VIII, and X so I don't know how the 16-bit ones are, but I would love to try them out.

By the way, weren't FF I-VII more in the past? The whole high-tech thing with FF-X didn't do much for me. But I was mostly into VII more than the rest.

yeah squall was a bit whiny and i thought that ff 10 was a huge improvement on the ff series the graphics were great and in fmv mode the characters looked real and i noticed (weird observation) that the hair was so real as well but the ff 7 cast is still the best to me

If your still in the playstation 3D games zen, you really need to play IX, it's the second best in the series.

And when your ready for 16-bit you should play IV then VI, VI is refered to as the best.

LOF is a game I refer to as a sub rpg, like beyond good and evil, I would really like to see more of those.

I would say Zelda was an RPG, maybe i'm wrong.

Final Fantasy 9 does have a great cast, good mixture of different characters. Great games as well. :D

I also like the cast from 4, Cecil and the gang, Palom and Porom can be annoying but its cool when they sacrifice themselves to save everyone else, and the same goes for Yang. Also great when Rydia comes back with all those summons.

I've not played 1-5...i've played from 6+ though...i liked 9 and 10 the best...though i also like 8, 7 and 10-2 as well...9 and 10 are my favorites!

The best summons...hmm...i would probebly say...8 or 7...10's were pretty good....but i like 8 and 7's the best....

exactly :) I liked VIII's characters, but there just weren't enough playable ones. Sure, you get to play laguna, kiros, and ward, but they never actually join you. There are about 5 or 6 characters...

The best cast in FF was in FFVII; Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Red XII, and Sephiroth! The first five made a great team and Sephiroth was the best villian!

I also like Squall, Rinoa, Selphie, Zell, Quistis, and Irvine. Beautiful couple(Squall and Rinoa) and great team( all of the above).

Have to agree with earlier post by Ndi.
Depends when you started playing the series as to how you regard each sequel.
Personally I started at VII and always regard it as one of the best games Ive played, as with VIII. Couldnt get my teeth into IX or X though. But must get round to playing the first 6.
Best cast IMHO; Squall as main, Rinoa and Tifa as his two girls and backed up by Barret, Zell and Cid. Vincent and Irvine to fight it out for the "sniper/gunner" spot.

My thoughts exactley. I started out with FFVII and no matter what people say, it's always gonna be my favorite, so of course I'm gonna say I like the cast the best. One person once told me "FFVI will change your mind about FFVII being your favorite", it's a good Final Fantasy, but nope, it still didn't have any affect on my being FFVII as my favorite!
