Ok, Nintendo recently released the final design for their new handheld system, the Nintendo DS. And I must say, it looks a heck of a lot better than it originally did. I love the silver color, the easier to use buttons, the built-in speakers, everything. Here it is:

Looks a lot better than the original design.

Ah, should snuggle in nicely to your pocket.

Should I get this system or PSP?

I have PS2 and a Gamecube.

Me being me, I plan on picking them both up.

I was not a huge fan of the double screen, and I'm still not, really, but it does look like some good stuff will be coming out for it, and that's enough to sucker me in.

I'm not going to buy the DS... because I don't agree with the "two screens are better than one" approach.

The PSP looks to be decent... but i doubt i'll pick that up either.

I know I'm going to buy the DS when it hits stores, which is probably going to be within the same week as PSP. When I want a system, I strive for something that is unique and offers me a new perspective to playing video games. The PSP just looks like a normal hand-held system, with good graphics and what-not. But the DS is revolutionary, as there will now be a new way for video games to be created and played.

A touch screen and Dual Screens aren't exactly innovations - they're gimmicks. Cool gimmicks, but gimmicks none-the-less.

I mean, honestly, if you want to see the league the machines are going to be in, just look at Square Enix's marketing strategy - they're planning to re-release their SNES games on the DS, and bring Advent Children to the PSP.

...which do you think defines 'next-generation handheld' better? 9 year old sprite graphics, or top-of-the-range 3D?

...don't get me wrong though, I'm still getting a DS. I love all consoles :D

Yeah, and they aren't exactly gimmicks either. Nintendo isn't just adding the touch screen and other mumbo-jumbo to attract a bigger audience. No, they are also doing it partly to bring something new and wild to the gaming market. They became tired of all these new systems coming out that just enhanced graphics, so they decided to innovate, not renovate.

Actually, when you look at it, all next-generation really means is the latest system that hits the shelves. Nothing more, and nothing less. Although, it should mean a system that brings something considerably different than it's previous system, something that is a renovation.

I'm considering DS as more of a side thing like the Virtual Boy. It has some nice stuff but I'm going to wait quite a bit before I make a decision.... it really all ends up to be re-released stuff with both PSP and DS.

Actually, they've redesigned the DS again recently.

Advent Children is a stupid turd, which immediately disqualifies any system it's associated with from the "which is the best" contest.

I've just ordered six. :)

Seriously though, the two screens looks a little clumsy. I'd like to see one in action before I think of buying one...

- Square Enix is conducting a survey on what games the players would like to see on Nintendo DS, a postcard is included in the package of Final Fantasy I & II Advance for GameBoy Advance, the list of choices include: Final Fantasy III, IV, V, VI; Chrono Trigger, SaGa series, Front Mission, Hanjuku Eiyuu, Chocobo Dungeons and Seiken Densetsu.
