So just how good is Final Fantasy 9? I only got to the point where you fight the 3rd mage that's after Garnet A.K.A Dagger. My friend stole it from me while I was at my father's house. I never got to finish it, and it really sucks that you get kinda far in a game then you can't play the rest.

Sayin FFIX is good or not is all a matter of opinion. Some people think its great and others don't but it's their opinion. I personally liked the game and thought it was a lot of fun! See some of these games I've been playing seem to be lacking that special feature.

Lets see..

Ive always enjoyed Fina Fantasy IX, because there is so much to learn about it, the characters have deep personalitys so you can understand them and get to know them well.

The landscaped are always new, they all represent the mood that needs to be givien out to the player.

Oh and there are many games to do after you have completed it, id say, top class game.

FF9 is the best numbered final fantasy ever, it goes up there with the games KH and FFT as my top 3 favorite RPG's. Now it's a greatest hits for ps1 and you can get it for like 15$!!!! That game was so much fun I played it over and over again.

Final Fantasy 9 is my second favorite game, (with 6 in first place)

This game is soooo close to being perfect, in my opinion with only two problems with it, one of them being trance, it's so random you can't use it strategically, so I just ignored it, the other problem though is a major problem: having ability's learing by equipping weapons, for some reason alot of people like this system but not me, it drove me nuts. It simply leads to so many complications.

I prefer learning my spells naturally, rather than having my inventory cluttered with 2000 different weapons and items I really don't want but I'm not done learning from them, enemies give you shit ap compared to what you need to just get on with your life.

Let's see, I have a old useless weapon and a new stronger weapon, I very badly want to sell this thing and keep the obviously more vital one equipped, but my ability is still 16/155, I have no idea why because I went through about 5 boss battles and plenty of random encounters along the way.

also I hated synth, another thing that keeps you from selling what you don't need anymore.

and the one last thing, I absolutely HATED the fact that my characters had so much free will, I had no control over them, when you get to a new town, you take this opertunity to heal, buy new weapons and items, equip my party with everything and level up..... but I can't because zidane is by himself. So as a result he's 30 levels ahead of everyone.

Towards the end of the game you finally get much more control over the character, like when you travel with regent cid on that boat, I literally spent 3 days trying to get all my abilities in.

Honestly it's a wonderful game, my favorite cast of characters in all of them, very fun battle system, great story, music, art. But because of the tedious facts that weapons and abilites are linked, ap is gained very slowly, and you have so little control over your characters, I only see it worth playing once.

Everything Melichior just said.

It's great to see other people who love this game as much as i do.

No one I know likes this game.

I agree this is the most underrated game ever, unlike that piece of trash that is FF 7 which is the most overrated game ever. FF9 is the game Cloud and Seph wish they were cool enough to be put in, they both wish they were Zidane so much that they threw away there swords so that they can practice with daggers and have tails taped to thier butts.

I think the biggest mistake Square ever made was making a sequel for FF7 and not FF9.

FF9 sets itself up for a sequel because at the end when you kill Necron says something about coming back to finish things.

Echliurn

FF9 is underrated mainly because people played ff7 and 8 first which had nothing fantasy like to them, then played 9 and didnt like the change, because 9 goes back to the fantasy style which was in 1-6 and isnt futuristic..

x-2 really was bad tho...

i found 6 the easiest - i completed it with an average character level of 34. :P

I thought FF9 was a cracking game. the only reason ppl dont like it is becuse they compare it to other games.
I wasnt too keen on choco hot and cold though - i sucked at it :'( and i couldnt ever find my way to the chocobo lagoon :'( x-x. I agree, at the start, i wanted more time to lvl up my characters, but by disk 3 i had had the oppertunity to do so :)
i like the way the story panned out, and how the characters were developed...

It's not for the younger generation, infact it's much more challenging than FF7 and FF8, you basically just insulted the game.

No, everything in FF9 looks the way it is for two reasons alone:

1. A light-hearted atmostphere for a change, classic story-line we remember from our childhood in fairy tales involving crystals, princesses, castles, knights, dragons, etc. (atleast up until disk three, then you meet garland and everything goes back to FF7 and FF8)

2. Going back to the better style of character classes:

1. Thief/Ninja
2. Black Mage/Black Wizard
3. White Mage/White Wizard
4. Fighter/Knight
5. Lancer/Dragoon
6. Blue Mage/Blue Wizard
7. Caller/Summoner
8. Black Belt/Monk

Much better than all of your characters being able to learn everything inturn making less character development and less style and challenge to the game.

Chocobo Hot & Cold is the best. I bet you probably just never figured out the game's big secret: that there's only one treasure in the forest (or whatever area) at any given time and once you find it, a new treasure appears in another location. This game rox - once you what you're doing, you more than make up for the price of admission. I mean, there's nothing like paying 50 gil or whatever it is to enter and then finding 100 gil or even thousands of gil buried somewhere.

sometimes if you take a quick glance, everything does seem real; especially in ff movies. the animators will really have to rack their brains to come up with new ideas to make the graphics above the rest, cuz if it does get to the photorealistic point, eventually everyone will get there and the graphics will be the same for every game. it will be interesting to see the results

im not so sure if poeple always want some realistic characters in the game. at the latest, if the characters will become someday "perfect", some for sure want that nice comic stile back.
if you ask me, i prefere that old characterdesigne. and even more important is the story! what should i do whit a real, great looking character i a really stupid storyline, just stand in front of a mirror?
i think that is also the point why they made a game like ff9. because of the old players who loved ff because of that it was and that because of what it looked like.

final fantasy 10 rocks, i was blown away from the moment the game started, its great cinematics, its storyline, the tragic characters that are dagger and vivi, zidanes quest to find his true parents and not knowing where he comes from, vivis quest to find his family, the sentient yet naive good black mages i almost cried when vivi talked to the black mage whose friend had "stopped" zidane finally finding out where he came from when he crossed to the far continent, it was great, but even in FF9 and FF10 i still carry 99 hi potions and 99 pheonix downs because i was used to having no curative magic in FF8, ViVi and tidus are some of the most tragic characters in all the FF games, and dagger, did anyone pay attention to the part when they mentioned she had a horn but it got cut off?

I completely disagree with you about FFVII's storyline being better. It had no pacing at all, inadequate backstories for most of the characters, and a lack of personality in many of the main cast. While it did have potential, whoever actually wrote it did an awful job.

FFIX, on the other hand, continued to progress at a steady pace. With only one or two exceptions, the party were all well-developed with unique personalities.

On those points alone, I think it's safe to say that FFIX's storyline was superior.

Everything else about the games comes down to personal taste.

If you don't quit it, stay on topic, and especially, let other people post as well, this thread will be short-lived.
I know there is no rule or guideline dictating how often you may post in one thread, but you're putting it to the extreme when every second or third post in a thread is made by you, and if two people are leading a conversation, it is bad for the thread, and if it goes on, kills it.
So please quit it.

Yea seriously, lets get this back on topic. FF9 i think is the greatest FF game that has been made. Keep in mind I have yet to play 2-6, but out of the ones that i have played 9 is the coolest. The environment (that includes the people) is one of the best things about this game. The unplayable characters of the game really bring the story to life. Not that the storyline needs the help, it in my opinion is the greatest storyline to date. The graphics are good, the characters have realistic personalities, each with their own miniature story within the greater picture. What i dont get is why so many people dont like this game?

i really love ff9...it has many things in it that separates it frm the other ff's.....like the fact that they dont use repeated hand guesters or movements(they do but very little) as 7 and 8 did, but ff9 is an all time fave of mine!

terra child, except for the being the best game of the ff's, (just because we all have our own opinions), i totally agree with you. the way the non-playable characters react to your walking by them is outstanding, as well as when you communicate with them. Everything is very realistic in the game and I don't see how anyone couldn't like it either.

Final Fantasy 9 is one of my favorite Final Fantasy but I wouldnt praise it to much. The story line was interesting, the game play was alright I didnt like using 4 characters for battle since I was so used to only using 3. I liked how you can gain abilites through weapons and gear but I found it way to time consuming and when ever I had a better weapon I was in a rut because I had to finish the ability on the old weapon. FF9 just didnt match up to FF7 (my favorite FF) and I didnt see much depth into it. I guess it was because I felt that the characters didnt have much to offer.

what I did like is that since this is based in a sort of medievel reality, they made the characters shallow on the world surroundings. Besides that the graphics were nice, and the game did make me cry. But at some points it was just way to easy.

WOOO! i got the 100th reply! ...anyway i think the charachters had alot to offer. They all had there own personality, theyre own plot that wove in with the plot overall, and the conflict between character personalities was amazing

I just see it as that certain characters had strong stories that were interesing such as Garnet, Zidane, Vivi, and Freya. But then the other characters had less story telling, either nothing was revealed or there was to little to reveal.

final fantasy 9 was enjoyable, the only problem is that the game is a little bit shorter then the others and its so GODDAM EASY!!

But other then the easyness of it, i guess it was alright, didnt top VII though ^_^
