We all adore our characters personalities and attitudes in the FF's, some more or less, but we all have our favorite. But have you all noticed the complete individualiation or alienation of each character?? ***Spoliers***(dont want to piss anyone off)

Cecil being a darkknight with past crimes and his conversion, Terra not knowing who she is, Cloud with the possibility of being made, Squall completely being quiet and alone, Zidane with no past life and being an alien with a tail, Tidus being a dream and Yuna being a high summoner. In all seperate ways they were alienated, individualized but still amazing characters to connect to and eventually freed of there of stand offish ways in there friends eyes.

This has all made for favorite classical individuals in the FF series, and well its a key part that kept it going. But who has some idea's on how Square-Enix is going to alienate our future characters into meaningful people. lol hehe fun fun

my fav was tidus being a dream and my idea for a char would be something chrono trigger like where he/she dies and try to revive him/her but the reason they die is to a rare genectic virus and thats why he/she has choosen seclusion from people and especially their lead counterpart in fear of passing the virus. sounds fun to me

Heh!
Nice idea for a thread!

This is something pretty creative. Hmm... I guess that it's really important to have the main character have an issue of some kind, discover something about himself and learn to live with this truth.
This always needs to be connected to the game's story, and to its world, the the world's rules, so in order to work out the main character, you gotta figure out the rough basis story and the setting first.

The idea with the virus sounds interesting. The main character would be afraid of being with people, not because he likes solitude, but because he fears to harm them. Maybe something equally fun would be to make a main character who has a split personality (or something similar) that is aggressive and destructive, so after traumatic experiences, he's decided to exclude himself from any civilization, any humans, and live alone and sad. In such a situation, he'll probably have tried to kill himself a few times, but each time this was prevented by his evil other personality, so he's really given up all hope.

Then, he will meet a few people caught in a quest of some kind, and they'll somehow need his help. Maybe they're being attacked and he jumps in to save them, but then tells them to leave him alone and go far away as soon as possible. They will not leave him alone, of course, maybe because they just want to thank him, maybe because he's injured after the fighting, and they want to help him. They'll end up going on their saving-the-world quest together, and all the time, the main character will be terribly afraid that he may kill one of his friends, because he starts liking them. Or even loving one of them, but that's not that necessary.

I guess that the main story must have to do with the main character's personal problem, which means that his "evil half" will somehow be the centre of everything. Maybe this thing will gain an own body halfway through the game and become the main villain. Of course, this would be quite a good thing to happen to the main character, because he's finally free to be around people (and he'll have to re-learn social skills and stuff), but it'll also give him a responsibility to defeat this new enemy...

Hooray! Thanks for this thread!

The virus idea would be really fun to see. There are all sorts of possiblities with something like that.

I'd really like to see a character with a split personality. The personality wouldn't have to be evil, but it's something that the character would constantly try to push away, and keep hidden- they'd constantly be haunted with the fear that their other personality would consume them, or that they'd just go completely crazy.

Heh. That sounds a bit Two-Face-ish. Methinks I hath been watching too much animated Batman.

Nice ideas, really, I like them! =D

What I like to use one day is to bring together two absolutly different people. Not as boyfriend or girlfriend but just as friends.
Theyd like each other as they know each other and care for them as... lets say siblings. They really get along well!
Then one day one of them is meeting the bad guy and he/she tells him/her that the other guy he so much likes is the killer of her/his father or brother or sister of mother or pet.
I d find it really interesting to see how they solve this problem...
The conversation would surely be very interesting.

As for the virus idea I think its really worth using it. I mean, how does that guy react when he gets friends he cares for?
Or when he said "I cannot go with you!" and then his friends are in danger. Will he burst in and save them and by this infect them with the virus (if everything is going wrong.) or will he not...

Really a really really good thread!

The other thing I'd like to see if the main character has a "good/evil" sort of split personality, is the possibility that his evil personality makes him fight the party on occasion. And then you can either be him fighting the party, or be the party trying to fight him.

Each time these battles break out, it becomes harder and harder for the main character to discover their true self, or even if their true self is meant to exist, so there can be a quest to save the character's soul.

Another addition I'd like to see is multiple endings, with the option of playing from the viewpoint of the other side. But that's just me. :)

Ooh, that's such an anime-esque twist. That would be fun to see.

I'm always a fan of multiple endings, so I'd love to see that as well.

Adam, Merl and I have a game we want to make that does a very similar sort of thing- it's actually a game based on the war in heaven. Not like we're ever going to make it, just thought it was worth a mention.
