Is that good? Will FFXI run? I've already tried the benchmark and it always says there's an error with non-english text when I try to start it.

If the benchmark doesn't load, your PC's most likely not compatible, it's as simple as that.

I can tell right off the bat that you'd need another video card. The reste may be enough, but it's way too barely...You won't really be able to fully enjoy the game...Either get a new PC or get the PS2 version.

Where could I get a new graphics card, how expensive is it, and is it difficult to put in?

It's not that hard but if you haven't opened your computer before, it can be a bit intimidating. Ask someone to do it for you if you don't want to do it.

Opened my computer? My parents would never let me! They couldn't care less about upgrading...

Well just ask em if it would be possible to upgrade your computer sometime. Let them know you need a better video card and whatever else you may need.

When I lived at home, I was always able to ask and my dad upgraded my computer always.. Then again he built my computer, and I come from a pretty technological family.

I highly recommend the Geforce4 TI4200. I have pretty good luck with that card.

But if your parents flat out say no, then congrats. You spent 50 bucks on a game you can't play. Or you could always spend 100 on the PS2 version and probably 30 bucks more for the network adapter, and more on a keyboard.

*shrugs*

I didn't buy the game yet. My brother hasn't even gotten a job yet to earn money to pay the monthly fee. I'm just asking in case he does. I'm thinking of getting a Radeon 9000. It's lower than some others, but it works and is inexpensive.

I'd really recommend getting it for the PS2. It'll wind up costing you about the same amount in the end, and you won't have to worry about whether or not it'll run.

The thing is my PS2 is in the basement and my interent hookup is upstairs, so it would be complicated to get the two connected. My parents can't afford in any way to get a new one either, so computer is my only chance since it's already hooked up. Besides, it would cost more money because we could get a new video card for around 80$ that can run FFXI, and we'd have to buy a keyboard and mouse for the PS2 to have hopes of good communication. The computer version would in the end cost less.

My mom says she won't let us change video cards. I mentioned that earlier I believe.

Yeah, just buy the PS2 version. That's probably the best way without making huge modifications to anything.

No I didn't miss the point, you can just buy a router and a really long line.

Or even better, get a wireless router and a wireless reciever for the PS2.

I've told my mom that it just improves the computer, but she doesn't want to change it. Annoying huh? And a router for the PS2 plus a mouse and keyboard would cost me a lot. Yeah...I have a small hope though...I'm in the semifinals of an online poetry contest. If I win I could get 10,000 dollars. With that I could buy a laptop to play FFXI on.

I'm using a GeForce FX 5200 and it still plays rather slow on mid settings. Low setting would probably work okay but you can only get so much enjoyment at low settings. :(
