Which of the Final Fantasy games had the best storyline?

I think that my favorite was either Final Fantasy 7 or Final Fantasy 8.

FF VII has the best storyline of all the FF games. :D

I also like the storyline of FF X. ;)

It was a toss up between FF6 or FF8...but eventually I came to the decision of FF6....mainly cos it ius the best FF game ever, including its storyline.

FF9 is the best written story because of the way that the people all separate in a way that the people can always be in a four person team where ever they go until they all join up obviously. And it says things about people that the others are just plain shit at!

All the people that say FF7 is the best should be banned from voting because it's badly translated and loads of the things in it arn't explained properly.

FFVI has the best storyline by far. None of the others can even touch on it.

Out of curiousity, why no inclusion of FFIV? That had a great story too.

As for FFVII- the story was good on the first disc, but it sort of goes to pieces after that. Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I believe it's the only FF that doesn't have storyline involving the summons at all. Just a lot of crucial stuff like that being left out really keeps it from being great.

Yeah, I would go with FFVII. The storyline on the first disc was awesome. But, after that, there was just too much stuff going on at one time. There was several different sub-storylines in the game, instead of a definite, solid story.

So with that, I will go with FFIV. This was my favorite game for the longest time. I just thought that it was incredible how Cecil had to fight his dark past, to become a Paladin and save the world! Having who you thought was initially the boss of the game, Golbez, turn out to be Cecil's brother. WOW!

Yeah, FFVI may have the best storyline of all, but I haven't played it recent enough to give it a fair judgment.

FF9 has got the best storyline? I think it's got a really good stroy but I really dislike the last part just before the ending, you know, the last boss in this game appeared suddenly when I was thinking about Kuja as the last boss, it really depress me.
He shouldn't have existed there.

The whole storyline is pretty good though.

I have to agree on FF 7, the way story goes is awesome, the little pieces of the stroy which haven't seemed important in the early game eventually get together. Everything has some meaning for the entire game, which is great.

Well, I think the story counts, not the translation. I dont care about it, if the storys good. The same with the grafic. Who cares about it? ;)

And only because of that, FF 7 fans should be banned from voting?

It doesnt make sense..... :(

It'd be nice to have an explanation other than "because it's the best FF game"... that's all.

I voted for FFX, because of the symbolism and the atmosphere. The storyline made sense in itself, something I always love about stories.
The feeling of hopelessness, inevitability, of coming destruction, is reflected in the very structure of the story, in this step-by-step towards doom, and everyone knows what's to come, through explanations, through the Jecht spheres, etc. It's a really strong story.

FF6 and FF9 are probably second, but I'd have to think a bit more about that.

Personally, I really loved the story behind Final Fantasy IV. The relationship between all the characters, even the ones who are only in your party for a while. Cecil's redemption from a misguided dark knight to a pure hearted Paladin. Kain being manipulated because of his weakness in his love for Rosa. The love triangle between Cecil-Rosa-Kain.

I also really liked Final Fantasy X's storyline. Especially through this playthrough. The emotion within the game really filters through. The strength of Tidus as a main character is more apparent, and his ideals are what pushes the eventual conclusion to the game. Auron is there as the conscience of what was, Yuna is the steel the party welds to, and Seymour is one of the best instigators ever if you realise what he caused most of the troubles with the fiends in order to win Yevon's trust.

8's storyline is good up until the end of the 2nd disk. It gets a bit weird from there. 9's storyline was also sweet with Kuja being one of the best developed villains I know of, although I've only played it once.

7... Well, it's been a while. I used to love it, but time might alter opinion. I'll have to replay and see. And 6... I loved the bond between characters again, but I preferred the bond in 4...

FF9, easily. :-*

Most FF plots are only really a variation of a theme. Lots of different elements, yeah, but there's never anything very surprising. 9 was very well told, and the characters were much more real and interesting than anything that came before, or after.

I haven't beaten FFVII yet. Everyone says its sooooo great. I soooo don't get it. I stopped playing it for a while because my file got erased so i haven't seen the end. Form what I've heard it sounds really cool.

My favorite story is FFX. In gameplay it is inferior to FFVII but the story is so intricate and compelling. It really got me going. Also the character developement was amazing. You could always guess how each character would react to different occurences in the game. And throughtout the entire game I felt the same way Tidus did. It was really cool.

Everyone thought ending sucked but I liked. I guess I just have a bleeding heart for sad endings.

I am bleeding dying and still i'm crying
as my story comes to close
The sword went through my heart
Tearing me apart
It ebbed my life away
And my every night and day
But still your life would stay
Because I went away
And every night and day you'd remember me this way ~TRYSCAIRfan (that's me)

Why go somewhere else? This seems like the perfect place to say so if we think another is the best.

Personally, I think FFVII was overrated. The only one since then that I feel has had less of a story is FFX-2. I also thought Cloud was a really generic character.

And what did that bit about the final move have to do with anything? We're talking about storylines.

That said, I think FFIX had the best story because it kept progressing at a steady pace. FFVII became a cluttered mess after disc 1. FFVIII fell to pieces after disc 2. FFX was strong all the way through, but I felt that its immediate predecessor outdid it. The only problem I had with FFIX's story was the complete randomness of the final boss. Necron was totally pointless.

Necron wasn't pointless... I think there are some threads about this, run a search, Necron was there for mostly symbolic purposes. If you think Necron was pointless, you've just not tried understanding the story of FF9, the message, etc. Gah.

Symbolic purposes are all well and good, but not in a final boss. The game would not have been worse off without him. The concept of Necron is sound, but for him to be thrown at us out of the blue was a bad idea. The character needed some prior introduction, perhaps as a part of Kuja's plans. I would have been happy as a clam with that.

Agreed.

I understand that Necron represents death and hopelessness, and I know that finding hope is a major part of FFIX, but that still isn't really justification for him being there. It almost feels like an interruption in the story to me.

I don't like the game less because Necron is in it, but I would have probably liked Necron himself a lot more if there was a storyline related reason for him to be there.

Definately not VII. It's the most overrated, in my opinion.

I'd have to say VI has the best storyline. It had an amazing cast of characters, and all of the standard characters were well developed; each with their own personality and story.

Needless to say, the huge plot twist half way through had me pinned to my couch for a long time. Excellent storyline, and not convoluted like VII's.

Okay...

for me it is Final Fantasy IX.

It had a wonderful written storyline and the character melted into it just as well. The story was told in great dialogues and the meaning behind every single enemy and allie was very important.
It had a positive story and thats what I love.
Its the game for me. =3

Final Fantasy X had a very great storytelling. The way it was told was very underlining for the meaning behind it.
This cycle no one could escape from this repeating of senseless sacrifices and... and... the characters, the way they acted. Trying to be confident but being lost totally. =3
It made me sad... nyee~ (._.)
