You know, I never really found a real use for Red Mages. They have their own spells and stuff but it either came from White Magic or Black Magic and you can just get a White Mage or a Black Mage for em. They can also attack like a Warrior but... why not just have a warrior?

So really, what is so great about the Red Mage other than it's pimpish clothing?

The fact, at least in FFXI, it's the best class for soloing wherever you want to go. No need for a party. :P

Well, Red Mages are pretty effective and cool in FFTA, but other than that, and FFXI, I really don't see much use for them either.

It's like asking what is so great about Jessica Simpson, other than her incredibly high IQ?

I'm thinking Beastmaster is better :P

RDM has always been my favorite class/job/whatever in Final Fantasy. I really don't know why, but maybe it comes from FFVI where all characters were basically uber-RDM...

Red Mages are cool because of 8 Bit Theatre. That influenced my party choice in the first Final Fantasy (Fighter, Black Mage, Red Mage, Thief.) Red Mages add a bit more stability to the party. You might not get the ultimate spells, but you get a powerhouse who can withstand physical attacks and who can heal and kill with magic at the same time.

Sure, each of the relative classes are stronger than the red mage, but get the boy up to as high a level as you can and he comes into his own.

Well at the beginning of FF5 they were extremely handy, because Having a red mage meant that you didn't need a black mage and a white mage, and so saving people slots. But later on they got useless when they could only use Magic 2 spells and not magic 3 spells.

I have to admit I've always liked the Red Mage. In FFV, having a Red Mage initially in your party is a great help, but about halfway through, the Red Mage unfortunately looses some of it's kick, so to speak.

Thing is though, from FFVI (I'm using this as an example) onwards, basically all the characters in the party were Red Mages when you think about it. Magic wasn't really concentrated to one or two classes, basically anyone could use it.

I admit, when I saw this thread, seeing as I've just updated my Red Mage story here (Shameless plug I know.), I thought I'd add my two cents.
