Quite a rare n old ost which was released in 1991.8.21. composed by Umebayashi Shigeru. In which two cues hv been using in Wang Kar Wai's last film "The Grandmaster".
Actually the ost to "The Grandmaster" has just released digitally but hv yet to see any resource flowing on net... so meanwhile, enjoy this until we get the ost in either digitally or phyically.

Tracklisting:
1, 序曲
2, 再会
3, 情景
4, 回想
5, 対話
6, 弦楽四重奏曲第5番 変ホ長調より
7, 模様
8, 終曲 I
9, 終曲 II
10,「それから」のメイン・テーマ

Thank you, I'll be checking this out!

I'm also hoping that someone eventually puts The Grandmaster up too, especially the opera pieces by Stefano Lentini which are released in a separate album.

Lentini's Stabat Mater specifically used in Gong Er's challenge scene at the brothel is like the new Yumeji's Theme stairway scene from In the Mood for Love!

I really enjoy Umebayashi's music, this man knows how to tell a story with notes. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks micobear, I didn't know parts of this OST are going to be used in a new film.

I've read Sorekara, which is by one of Japan's greatest novelists, Natsume Sōseki. It's part of a trilogy that criticizes modern civilization through its portrayal of various types of young people.

I also have the first CD pressing on Victor VDP-1040 I bought in Japan in 1985 after seeing seen the slow but well-made film, which included the great Chishū Ryū (a favourite of Ozu) as the father. The soundtrack won Best Music Score at the 7th Yokohama Film Festival. It has a memorable main theme and for me the dialogue adds to the sombre mood. If there is interest I can FLAC my CD (which will reduce the astonishing $359.99 price on ebay). I don't have a scanner to copy the 16-page booklet though.

Here's a track list in English and Japanese:
01. Prologue [3:38]
02. Reunion (再会) [1:53]
03. A Scene (情景) [3:11]
04. Reminiscences (回想) [2:59]
05. Dialogue (対話) [3:07]
06. Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 44 (composed 1838) (メンデルスゾーン弦楽四重奏曲第5番 変ホ長調より) [3:23]
07. Pattern (模様) [5:51]
08. Epilogue I ~ Confession (EPILOGUEⅠ~告白) [5:25]
09. Epilogue II [4:01]
10. Main Theme (メインテーマ) [3:05]

I just returned from China for a few months and so only saw this now. The CD tray on my laptop is broken so I can't post in FLAC yet. Until then here is a working MP3-320 version which I found elsewhere on the Internet (thanks to the Japanese poster): http://www.mediafire.com/?n72rwutbac173rn.
