Besides the three you can ride in the game, it's mentioned in the scene where Eiko is on the Lindblum Castle elevator with Cid and Hilda in the ending scene, that Cid's 'new' Hilda Garde airship is the fastest airship he's built. Of course he may have been refering to the Hilda Garde 3, but it's more likely it was a new airship instead, particulary as far as the dialogue is concerned:

Eiko: "Hurry Hurry! We've got to get there before the play begins!"

Cid: "Ha ha! There is no need to worry. The theatre ship is no match for my new airship. My new Hilda Garde is the fastest airship ever!!"

Eiko: "Do I have to remind you? You said the same thing about the theatre ship!!"

Firstly, to answer my question, The Sage basically got it: to find out your current Treasure Hunter Rank, you can speak with the Four-armed Bandit near the Snythisist in Dageurreo (in disc 3 and 4), and the woman wearing an orange dress on the stairwell in the Inn at Treno.

Secondly, Ac-ace0 you actually fight Steiner 3 times, all on the Prima Vista.

The first battle is with Zidane, Blank and Cinna (and I think Marcus as well...), under the stage when Blank is in disguise as a Pluto Knight - the battle ends when Steiner destroys Blank's costume, releaseing the package of oglops he had hidden in a pocket!

The second and third times are up on stage, with Zidane, Marcus, Garnet and Vivi, and the two battles are essentially extentions of each other, although the third battle does have the added problem of a giant Bomb lurking behind Steiner, which swells up with every round. The battle ends when Steiner finally turns around to see what Garnet and the others were desperately trying to get him to notice!

As for the identity of the 'four-armed bandit', well, it's a spoiler, as you can do the quest to raise your treasure hunting rank to 'S' by getting enough treasure (the Chocobo Hot-and-Cold game alone should help raise it), although it's obvious if you think about it, so, if you don't want to know, do not look below! You have been warned...

The identity of the four-armed bandit is none other than Gilgamesh; yet another reference in FFIX to the previous FF games (although remember this isn't the same dimension-hopping rogue from FFV and VIII, and XI as well, but rather just a four-armed NPC with the same name....).

As for your question, Zidane promised to kidnap her. He mentions it when they introduce each other for the first time in the cargo hold of the Prima Vista:

Garnet: "I... have a favour I wish to ask of you... I wish to be kidnapped! Right away! Please?"

Zidane: "Alright Princess, I promise I shall hearby do my best to kidnap you!'

Really, the 'kidnapping' is just a metaphor for firstly being under protection while she travels to Lindblum to speak with Cid about Brahne's increasingly irrational behaviour, but eventually she uses it as an excuse to stay with Zidane and his growing little band, so she can get away from the castle and the responsibilites of royalty to explore the wider world.
SPOILER ALERT

The agreement stays pretty much in affect for the entire game, until Zidane actually 'releases' himself from the agreement at the end, as a way of preventing Garnet from going with him down into the bowels of the Iifa Tree to rescue Kuja, and almost certain death:

Zidane: "Garn.. I mean, Your Highness. The abduction is over. I cannot take you any further. I'm sorry for being so selfish."

Garnet: "Oh no, you weren't selfish. You've done so much for us Zidane. If it wasn't for you I probably would have just lived a meaningless life. With you I was able to see so much of the world and meet so many people. We faced many hardships too but,... I think I finally understand what's important. I'll never forget our trip together. Thank you Zidane. .......... ..... .............. Promise me one thing. Please come back."

no i do not beliave it is possible, because ramah tells her that shes a summoner and before this it wouldnt be possible unless you'v found a way?

wel i think it may just be possible as long as you have enough MP to use them. But then again i coul be wrong because i never have been bothered to test this.

....or maybe she can't because i think i can remember reading her say about that she was too afraid to use them or something like that.

Actually, yes, she can indeed use them, regardless of what Ramuh tells her. As far as the game engine is concerned, the only thing preventing her from using them in disc 1 is her level and MP (after all, why do you think they're in her spell inventory at the start of the game?), so as long as her level and MP are high enough, she indeed can summon her Eidolons before getting Ramuh. However, you'd have to spend quite a bit of time raising her up to a level where her MP allows it.

I think it's all due to her level ups, when she levels up she can't use the Edions until she Trances again, but then that's just me I don't know it for sure.

As for The Sage's question, giving the friendly Yan a Diamond rewards you with 50 AP, a Rossetta Ring, and the ability to attack Ozma with physical attacks and Shadow elemental spells.

Ereptor Eximius: That old man was Locke if my memory serves me correctly, yet another reference from a past FF to appear in FFIX.

I can't quite recall what his previous occupation was in FFIX though - he only mentions about how efficent the air cabs are and how long it used to take to walk between the various districts of the city before the air cab system started operating. Of course in FFVI Locke was a 'treasure hunter'... ;)

Firstly, in regards to my question, your second guess was correct The Sage. It was indeed the Invincible, which was the final airship you gained from Forbidden Land Eureka in FFIII on the Famicom (although it's design is nothing like how it later appeared in FFFIX, it's still increidibly powerful and even helps you in battle by firing cannons at the start of each of battle!).

But as FFIII is a game which never saw the light of day outside Japan it's not that well known.

To answer your first question then The Sage, as far as attack power is concerned, then the most powerful weapon in the game is NOT the Ultima Weapon. It's actually Steiner's Excalibur II, a secret weapon which is gained by getting to the gateway to Crystal World in Disc 4 within 12 and half hours of starting the game; a very hard feat to accomplish. The Ultima Weapon has an attack stat of 100, where as the Excalibur II has an attack rate of 108. The difference is obvious.

As for your second question, I can't quite remember the reason Zidane gave, but I think it had something to do with trying to find his birthplace, which he never found on Gaia of course, but knowing my luck, it's most likely wrong...

Thirdly, Gilgamesh didn't appear in FFVI The Sage. Although Locke appears as an old man outside the Business District air cab station in Lindblum (as has already been mentioned), there are a couple of other references to FFVI as well.

In the immediate aftermath of Alexandria's attack on Lindblum on disc 2, an Alexandrian soldier in the Theatre District mentions that Queen Brahne wants to build an Opera House there (possibly hinting at the Opera House in FFVI), but Axelredmage is most likely however refering to Gogo the Mime (who also appeared in FFV).

In FFIX Gogo is refered to as a famous toymaker who made the various action figures found throughout Gaia in FFIX. The Magical Fingertip item required to gain Excalibur actually has a reference to Gogo, and the old man at Daguerreo whom you give the Magical Fingertip to explains quite a bit about Gogo's life.

True, but FFIII and FFVI are two different games. I assumed when you put 3/6 I assumed you were meaning FFVI only, and not the 'proper' FFIII on the Famciom/NES, seeing as how FFVI was known as 'FFIII' on the SNES in the US.

Incidentally, the song on the gramaphone was already mentioned in a previous post, and it's not the only FFIII refrence in FFIX. The two items needed to get the music to play (Unne's Mirror and Doga's Artifact) are of course references to Doga and Unne in FFIII (incidentaly, Unne also appeared as the language professor who teaches you the Lefinish langauge in FFI), and the Invincible airship from FFIII also appears in FFIX (as I mentioned in my previous post). I think there is one other FFIII reference in FFIX, but I can't quite remember it at the moment.

Another not so well known reference to previous FF's is that Kuja's Theme is actually a variation on the Desert theme for FFV

I assume you mean Zorn and Thorn (the jester twins who are always mimicing each other), however when you fight them in the chapel in Alexandria Castle in disc 2, you don't receive anything after winning the battle, although you can steal a Mythril Armlet and a Mythril Armour from Thorn, and a Stardust Rod and a Partisan from Zorn.

When you fight them as their combined boss form Meltigemini in Mount Gulug in disc 3 however, you recieve 2 Vaccines. I'm not sure if this is actually the answer you're looking for, but I'm not sure exactly what mages you're meaning (unless you're really referring to the Black Waltzes, of which there are actually three.).

Moocha is found at Bohden Arch on the King Ed Plains on the Mist Continent (you can get it in disc 1), Kirman is found on the back porch of Eiko's House in Madain Sari (in disc 2), and Burman is the hardest Coffee to get (Dali in disc 3).

You can only get this coffee at one point in disc 3, when Zidane and the party are in Treno for the Card Tournament. Head back to Dali when in control of Zidane and find the Mayor's Key in his house. Using the Key, use it on the locked door in the Windmill in Dali. The final coffee is located underneath a hidden treasure chest which has 30 000 gil in it (inspect the treasure chest again after receiving the gil).

For those curious to know the answer to my question, the names of the four ruling Nobles of Treno, are simply named after chess pieces (I sorry about how I said 'playing cards' as a hint which was a stupid mistake on my part): King, Queen, Knight and Bishop.

King is the owner of the Auction House and the mansion which Zidane broke into years before, and is believed to be actually Kuja (as he was often seen at the Auction House after hours); Queen is Queen Stella, the woman you give the Stellazzio coins to; Knight is the owner of the Weapon Store, and finally the Bishop is the owner of the Tower where Doctor Tot resides, as well as owning the Synthesist store (where Marcus tried stealing the Supersoft from).

As for how long the Berkmea Cableway has been running, I'm not sure. I'll have to play the game again to find out (although as it's Mist powered, I'd say it wouldn't be any more than about forty or fifty years, given the fact that the Mist engine was invented by Regent Cid's father, Cid the VIII.)

A: The Industrial District. There is a logical reason too why that section of the city was completely wiped out in the attack while all other areas escaped complete destruction.

The Industrial District was where Lindblum's airship engineers dwelt, and as Cid's airship fleet was what maintained their military dominance in the world, it was easiest to eliminate the source of their military muscle, as without the airships Lindblum can't defend themselves. Note that Brahne had to wait until she had a weapon power stronger than Lindblum's airship fleet (i.e. Garnet's eidolons) before she actually attacked Lindblum though.

Anyway, it was Cid the VIII who invented the Mist Engine, the current Cid (Cid the IX)'s father. There is a statue of him in the main square of Lindblum's Industrial District next to the entrance to the Aircab station, on disc 1.

And for the record, it's supposed to be Iifa, as that is how it's always referred to in official strategy guides (such as the much maligned Brady Games FFIX guidebook), who get their information straight from Square themselves (and I assume it's the same on Square's own online FFIX strategy guide on Playonline).

Besides, if it really was 'Lifa', then it most likely would have been written as 'Rifa' in the Japanese version, as the Japanese do not seem to differentiate between 'r' and 'l' when writing in romanji letters (a well known incidence of this in the FF series was Celes being known as 'Ceres' in the Japanese version of FFVI), as they pronnounce them the same. But I digress...
