I used to play, but after Abyssea killed it moved on. Waiting til the end of the month for Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn.

I'm waiting also for Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn. Luckily I got help from another player around! It's such a friendly community ^^

I still play FFXI from time to time - I'm on Quetzalcoatl though sadly so I can't help you in that regard. I'm glad you found the help you needed though. :)

FFXIV ARR will be my main focus though in a week or so (for that I'll be on Ridill though - JP Legacy server).

@OP : The FFXI community has changed drastically from when I used to play, and NOT for the better.. Full of arrogant elitists who don't do anything but endgame stuff (at least it was prior to my leaving). Abyssea really killed the core of FFXI, and things aren't the same anymore. While I do have moments where I think of returning... events which happened to myself during the last 6 months of play, kill any intent to return.

I agree with Revan, FFXI isn't half the game it was thanks to the Abyssea content.

I have my FFXIV ARR client ready though for this weekend (phase 4) and will be on Tonberry (JP) server.

What about the Abyssea content? Is is dissapointing? I'm playing this game not so long, i'm just Lv 28 with rank 3.

Abyssea itself was fine, it unfortunately was poorly executed - it was not even designed by the original development team, but a temporary stand-in team while Tanaka and the original FFXI team worked on FFXIV, and who simply asked the community what they wanted and just implemented player demands like 'ease of leveling' with a blithe disregard for game balance.

Hence Abyssea, despite being intended for end game players, was abused by players who exploited oversights in the content to form leech parties where low level players would simply stand and let exp flow in through Dominion Operations (similar to Fields of Valor). Unfortunately, by the time Tanaka returned following his dismissal after the FFXIV debacle, the damage was done - it did bring in a lot of new players, but it did more harm than good - it virtually trivialized leveling overnight in that with a long enough Dom Op party you could basically go from level 30 to 99 virtually overnight (assuming you already have the limit break quests completed). Even worse is these parties encouraged RMT to actually advertise leeching in Abyssea for gil/real money, although SE has started clamping down on this, they haven't abolished it completely though sadly, as it's a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

And that's not including the ridiculously overpowered 'Empyrean' gear/weapons (AF3), and in particular, the Twilight gear as a drop from Abyssea's final boss Shinryu, which has a permanent Auto-Reraise effect. If SE had placed restrictions on Abyssea's access to over level 75s, restricted the availability of Dominion Operations, and maybe toned down the potency of some of the gear found in it, it would have been an interesting expansion set.

But as it stands... it utterly and completely broke FFXI. And most long-time players agree sadly. When even SE themselves admitted the whole thing was 'a mistake', then you know it's broken. :(

I haven't tried FFIX yet, but I think from most comments that it's just not worthy now. It's such a shame..
Should I at least try it? I mean, I play WoW, but I'm more into the FF universe.

No.... XIO is dead. Only diehard elitists exist there now. FFXIVARR is far superior to XIO in every way. The PS4 version will be released next month, and as the game is cross platform, and as long as you pick the same Data Center/World, you can play with friends who have the game on PS3 and PC.

FFXIVARR is still very young for a MMO, but there's still a lot to do in it so far. Have the standard cast of FF inspired classes to play as, and unlike WoW, to play as another class all you need to do, is get your first class to level 10, go to the guild of another class and complete a simple quest to unlock that class for use whenever you want. It is a subscription based MMO, though it's not that expensive and you can use 60 Day Subscription cards to pay.

Well, this section is more for FFXI than FFXIV, but for subscriptions for FFXIV ARR, information can be found here (scroll to the bottom of the page to 'Service Fees'): http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/product/ for the US and Canada, and FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn (http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/product/) for Europe/UK/rest of the world. I'm thinking of making a FAQ thread for FFXIV in the FFXIV section with sort of information anyway, as ARR's success I feel warrants it. :)

Yeah, i'm sorry for that, It was my last question lol thanks for the links and info!
And I'm sure that section will make great use of a FAQ. It sure will do for me. :D
