Russian Philharmonic Orchestra. Sergei Skripka, Conductor

The first two albums of Russian Film Music were recorded by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000 and 2002, released by Belair music. This orchestra was originally assembled for recording in the early 90s. Many musicians were from Fedoseyevs Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, which guaranteed the top quality of the music making. The producers cant afford or unwilling to hire Fedoseyevs orchestra with its own name, but cleverly recruited most of its musicians into a recording ensemble. Russias economy at that time wasnt very good and the musicians eager to join the recording sessions to make extra money, similar to the situation in Prague.

This third album from the series took seven years to materialize. Instead of re-recording themes or selections, Belair dug into the archives and selected 26 pieces recorded from 1932 to 2004, by the studio orchestra. It would be nicer to include the conductors name. The amazing outcome from the research is to provide an extra DVD (85 min) of all the clips from which the music was fitted in. This is fairly new release, so please dont ask for FLAC. Purchase a copy to support the label and youll get the DVD as well.

Id like to include another album featuring re-recorded Russian Film Music and other popular selections, Russian Pops. The audiophile label PopeMusic seems no longer active. It made some Russian and western classical music recordings during the mid 1990s, mostly with then newly established Young Russia Symphony Orchestra, under a great conductor, Mark Gorenstein. Some tracks on this CD were same from the Belair discs, but better recorded. Listen to the climax of the Spartacus adagio, it will blow your roof away.

May I give another short correction?
Alexander Zhurbin: "Overture" from "The Moscow Saga" (1984) - correct year is 2004, not 1984 ;)
