2 missing tracks for Dragon Warrior III

Whoops, you're right! Tracks 16 and 32 are now back. Just re-download the DW3 soundtrack in the OP, they're in there.

Also, I'm uploading Final Fantasy 2 and 3, and Mega Man 1 and 2 for ya. They should be up in a couple minutes.

Next up: Wizards and Warriors (by request,) more Mega Man, and... maybe the Super Mario series? Or Zelda. I dunno... what do you guys want most?

And i think there was another track for Castlevania I

And two more tracks for mega man, just letting you know

I looked up the Castlevania 2 tracklisting, and even on the official soundtrack, it's 9 tracks, like I've got. It's possible that the little jingle that plays when Simon dies is considered a sound effect, and was left out of the tagged NSF that I used. Also, all of the Castlevania 1 NSF's I could find were 15 tracks long, though I did see a YouTube video where it lists "Underground" as a final, 16th track. If somebody discovers an NSF that includes it, I'll add it to the archive.

The Mega Man OST matches up with the soundtrack on this YouTube video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvLNV-Oc0EM) Do you know specifically which tracks I might be missing? Remember, there were only 6 evil robots in the original game (not counting the mega clone and the big yellow blobby thing), not 8 like the rest!

I have Elm St and TMNT 1+2 in the works, like I promised. They'll be up later tonight, along with some Mario goodies. :)

Ok well i'm all cool with Castlvania and the only reason why i said there was two missing tracks

ok. And don't forget the Zelda goodies!

My aim is for completion, so if there are tracks I can add, I'd be happy to add them, as long as I can find them!

OK, TMNT 1+2, Nightmare on Elm Street (which is surprisingly good - never played it!) and Super Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3 are up! My next will be the Zelda games, I think, just to get uut off my back. ;) j/k!

@uut: The way it'll work for you is taking winamp and the NotSoFatso plugin. Open a NSF file and play with the panning settings a little. It'll depend of your tastes and the NSF, usually Square wave is the one to go after but is a matter of experiment. Hope you find it useful.

ruiner9

Personally, I take the plugin found in NSFPlay and copy it to the Winamp plugins folder. It's a much more accurate sounding plugin, has a few more options, and supports the expansion sound files like the Japanese Castlevania 3.

Oh, and an hour's worth of music from Mother (Eartbound Zero)... very good stuff!

Also, I tagged the Bucky O'Hare soundtrack, leaving Dragon Warrior 3 as the only untagged OST left... can anybody help with that?

New Update!

All the Mega Mans (Mega Men? IDK)! All the Ninja Gaidens! Metroid! Rad Racer, and Rollergames!

If you're not familiar with Rollergames, and you like Konami's soundtracks (TMNT, Contra, Bucky O'Hare), I recommend you try it out. It uses the same sound driver, and I believe some of the same composers.

So, I think that takes care of all requests, and most of my favorites... any other suggestions? I have Battletoads in the works. It's got a weird sound driver that only some NSF players agree with, so I have to do a lot of manual work to get a good-sounding stereo version out. I'm sure I'll have some time over the weekend to do it. Otherwise, let me know what you guys want!

I just realized that the guy who did all the music for the Donkey Kong Country games also wrote the soundtrack for Battletoads (which has just been uploaded.) Mind = Blown.

From what I gather, there's only one NSF player out there which can play the sampled drums on the Battletoads intro music. It's built into an emulator, and it can't play stereo songs OR export to wav, so I had to settle for a quieter intro version without them. The song still works very well, so I'm not too upset. NSFPlay is still being actively updated, so if it supports those PCM files in the future, I'll definitely update the soundtrack.

Enjoy!

Neat! I'm interested in comparing the ripped versions to the all-digital SPC encodings, to see what the differences are. My guess is it'll come down to 100% sound accuracy vs. noiseless clarity.

That being said, my versions of Cool Spot and ZAMN are up too, you lucky bastards!

I'm confused as to what you mean by this. That guy's rips are also done via emulation and SPCs, unfortunately.

I for one don't get it. Seems like a waste of time and space making them into MP3s (except maybe if it's something special like stereo NES), when you could just use the spc/nsf/etc and the player. Most of the popular mobile devices have players for these sound code rips too. Yeah, you can manipulate stuff through the mature PC players to make it sound "better", stuff that you might not be able to do on mobile device players, but to me it still doesn't seem worth transcoding to mp3, and certainly not FLAC -- that's just bonkers.

We need more heroes like "The Iron Goat" and his lovely FLAC hardware rips straight from the console, and a lot less of this untrue emulator jive. But that's just my opinion. :p

I wasn't aware his tunes were done the same way. I was under the impression that "rip" meant "recorded from the source."

I'm so glad you took the time to pop into this happy, productive thread and start throwing your negative opinions around! Personally, I see very little use in direct line-out rips. It's a lot of effort for very little benefit compared to the SPC method. Secondly, I find mobile VGM players very lacking, either in sound quality, or usability. I own an Android and an iPhone, and I've exhausted the app options for players on both, and I'm just not happy with them. My drive to work is an hour each way, and having the ability to listen to the tracks I want to without having to look at my phone every 15 minutes on the highway just isn't possible.

Also, your "space" argument seems a little silly. Memory is cheap these days! Maybe 10 years ago, when 32mb cards were all you could get for your phone, it would have been an issue. My Android has 16gb internal memory, and a 32gb micro SD card, and it came with 50gb of Dropbox space (which is what I'm using to host these files.) So no, I don't consider it a waste of space at all.

I was just reading an article that Wil Wheaton posted a few days ago, concerning geek culture and elitism. It was a call for those who enjoy certain aspects of this culture to stop driving other people away from it, just because they don't like it the same way they do. The message, applied here, is "Be happy! You love VGM! So do these people! Does it really matter whether they're listening to the Final Fantasy soundtrack on an NSF player, or via mp3? No. What matters is that you probably grew up loving these tunes, and didn't have many people around to discuss it with, and now here's all these people who love it too, and you're choosing to preach to them because they don't love it the same way you do."

Sorry for the long rant, but seeing stuff like this first thing after waking up just got to me. If I had entitled the thread "What's your opinion on mp3 vs spc?" Then this kind of comment would have been appreciated. I just wanted a nice thread where people could request music, and I could make albums for them, because I've leeched for so long and felt like I should give back.

Anyways, I have no intention of stopping, and I'm making my albums the highest quality that I can, and I hope the comments above don't deter anyone from loving this music in any way, shape, or form. I'll take requests from NES, Genesis/MD, SNES, GBA, or DS! :)

Long live VGM!

Ah yes, the classic subject of geek culture and elitism. Difficult subject, and it's not as simple as "poor geeks vs rich geeks". Far from it. As always, it's all about personal preferences. FLAC vs mp3 (or nsf for that matter) is in the same vein as bluray vs dvd. Cd vs Vinyl. Etc etc. While we surely can point to technicalities, charts and numbers, in the end none of that matters. It's hopeless to argue about personal tastes.

She does, part time... if you read her blog (just click on her name) and scroll a few posts down, she writes about a few recent arrangements she's done, and she's performed a few shows with Video Games Live, too. If VGL ever comes to your area, check it out. I've gone to two of their shows, and it's a blast. Plus, you get to meet Tommy Tallarico!

Oh. My. God. The Journey to Silius soundtrack is AMAZING. Why have I never played that game before? I'm totally going to load it up on my EverDrive tonight and give it a play!

On another note, I had a PM from a very polite individual by the name of Flexter who requested the Shadowrun soundtracks from both the SNES and the Genesis (I'm American, so it's a Genesis to me. Deal with it. :) ) Considering the new Shadowrun PC game has just been released, which marries the gameplays of both titles, AND includes work from both composers, I felt it would be a very timely addition. I played through the SNES version at least 3 or 4 times as a kid, so that soundtrack brought back some memories. I think I need to find the OST from the new version to see how Sam Powell and Marshall Parker's work has matured over the past 20 (20? TWENTY? REALLY?) years. (I feel REALLY old now.)

As usual, hope you enjoy them!

And I shall request again, this time two SNES/Super Famicom games by Hudson. Totally awesome soundtracks in both.

- Dai-kaijuu Monogatari
- Dai-kaijuu Monogatari II

Un-interesting fact: I actually own Super Famicom and these two games :) Sadly the Dai-kaijuu II has some kind of a clock-related special chip and the battery for that is dead... or it is just broken. Hudson had an another game with that, Tengai Makyou ZERO and yes, guessed right, I have it also but it's also broken. Dang you Hudson and your weird 90s gimmicks. :D

Real Time Clocks in a Super Fami cartridge? Weird. So does the game still work even though it doesn't know what time it is? This reminds me of those stupid Boktai games for the GBA where you had to go out into sunlight to play some parts. What if you live in a cave? Or like, Greenland where it's dark all the time? So lame.

Well, at least you can listen to the (really super long) soundtracks, both now uploaded. 3 1/2 hours between the two of them... yikes! Unfortunately, DKM2 isn't tagged, but at least the tracks are accurately time-cut.

Also, from a request on the old thread, I've uploaded Double Dragon 3 (and Double Dragon 2, which wasn't requested, but having 1 and 3 would just be weird.)

Sweet Home, from Capcom, is there too, and Bio Senshi DAN, which seems to be about a guy with a yo-yo sword who jumps in and out of closed windows and wrestles aliens for inventory items. I have no idea, I'm just watching this YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNYlAqmgEh8) about it and scratching my head.

Get to downloadin'!

Well, yes and no. It will check the battery/chip (?) first time, if it works, you have to spam the clock and day and year and all that in, if it is busted, it tries to repair (which is pretty fun because I get the "non repairable" thing - what's the point of such function if it repairs zilch :D). Without the chip thing some places get unreachable and birthday events, and all other time related events get unreachable as well. So it is kinda pointless to even play it. And because Hudson is no more, and Birthday (the company that made the game) is no more, I doubt there will be any remake or anything. Which is sad because the games are awesome. Oh well, at least the music is there. Thanks for that!

BtW, Dai-kaijuu Monogatari II also got OST.
http://vgmdb.net/album/4527

Would love to have that in good quality. It would also help tagging the gamerip of yours. :)

MANY people would want Kid Icarus and Arkanoid, or YOU would want Kid Icarus and Arkanoid? :)

Doesn't really matter, because they'll be up in about 3 minutes. Arkanoid has like, under two minutes of sound, so.. I dunno. I guess the sound that's there is GOOD sound, anyways. And I can't believe I forgot about KI! Derp.

Ah. That's neat! Tommy Tallarico? Never liked his music, or his opinions on games- he hates RPGs too much.

---------- Post added at 04:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:19 PM ----------

VGL will never come in my area. I live in too rural of a state. Besides, they ONLY perform the famous game music and I cannot stand Tommy Tallarico. I don't even like concerts.

Four (4) new games today! We have the very cool soundtrack from Track & Field II, the acclaimed sounds of Faxanadu, Astyanax because I used to beat that game all the time when I was a kid, and Commando, which was the 2nd game I ever owned (besides Super Mario/ Duck Hunt,) and we got just because it was the only game with a gun on the cover. :)

As always, hope you enjoy them!

Wow, Contact is BIG. 5 hours! 570mb of MP3! I think I'm only going to leave it up for about a week because it's taking up a lot of space. I'll keep the file so it can be uploaded upon request. I listened to a little of it and it's quality stuff. I might make myself a "best of" album. Also note, that DS files aren't going to be crystal clear becuase they're already compressed audio files, but these are the best quality you'll find anywhere until an official OST is released from Grasshopper Manufacture.

Bayou Billy is up, too, and so are Dracula X and Super Castlevania IV. And just becuase I thought you might be interested, uut, I uploaded the two GameBoy Castlevania soundtracks as well. :)

Have fun!

I'd rather meet my favorite Japanese music composers over the English composers, depending of course if they can speak English well.

Composers such as Tsukasa Masuko, Hiroyuki Yanada, Ryuji Sasai, Michiko Naruke, Kennosuke Suemura, Eiko Kaneda, are such examples.

Well, I look at it like this: if you really want $1000, but that's almost impossible to get, and someone instead offers to give you $100, would you turn it down? Tommy is like the $100... still money, just not as much. Besides, sitting 20 feet away from the beautiful Laura Intravia while she plays the Zelda theme on an ocarina was worth it by itself!

Sorry, but I would turn down the "100 dollars" as you would say. I would rather meet them than Tommy Tallarico or anyone else.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I like the Japanese composers a lot more than the English game composers. I am in no way a "weeaboo" or an "elitest". I just prefer game music composed by the Japanese composers, that's all.

Medarot 5 might not be possible, as I can't find a time-cut version anywhere, and 74 tracks is going to take a lot more time than I have to go through manually and find the loops. I'm still searching for a listing, but enjoy the first 4 for now!

Mr. Gimmick!
Freedom Force
Hebereke
Gremlins 2 - The New Batch
Pescatore (Prototype)
Platoon

3 HOURS of excellent music in the EarthBound soundtrack!

Also, a couple Konami classics:

Top Gun
Top Gun Dual Fighters

First off, the aforementioned Genesis titles, Sol-Deace, Valis III, and Gaiares. They're the first of a batch of Genesis titles I'll be doing.

Secondly, the Battle Kid series. Never heard of 'em? That's because they're homebrewed NES titles, and they're freaking awesome. New update!

Everybody does Genesis stuff, right? So I feel I have to dig up some of the gems that don't get a lot of play. Here are a few games with really good music that don't get yelled about a lot:

Combat Cars
Gauntlet IV
The Hybrid Front
Sonic CD

For Sonic CD, it's just the music that plays when you're in the past zones, that's not included on the CD audio. Everybody posts the CD music itself because it's so easy to rip... now you can combine them and have the whole soundtrack.
Gauntlet IV is pretty crazy. It uses a custom sound driver and really pushes the FM synth to it's limits.
Combat Cars is like, breakbeat techno, or something. It's really dancy and well done.
Hybrid Front never made it out in the US, I don't think. The songs have a lot of voice samples and are really well composed. I think you'll enjoy it.

Let me know what you think, and keep the requests coming! :)

Oh, thanks for the tip on TMNT - FOTFC... I'll attempt to fix it later tonight. In exchange for your error-checking, I reward you with the full Maru's Mission OST. Enjoy!

Also, the missing Tim Follin soundtrack, Equinox, is up, as well as some more less-popular-but-still-awesome Genesis soundtracks:

Superman - It's Sunsoft, so it's gotta be good!
Skitchin' - Because with track names like "Spicy Placenta" and "Jerky Curtains," I couldn't NOT upload it.
SEGA CD BIOS Music - I'm not sure if these tracks are awesome, or if it's the just the glee I felt every time I played a CD game when I was a kid. Either way, all 3 versions of the music are here.

And, because I felt like adding yet ANOTHER system to the list, I've encoded Legend of Zelda - The Minish Cap for the GBA. It's like an hour long. No bigs.

I briefly explained my process earlier in the thread... currently I'm explicitly using NSFPlay to convert to wav, Audiograbber to normalize to 98% peak (or Audacity if I need to cut the loops manually,) and then the bare LAME command-line app to convert to VB0 mp3. All of the apps are free, so if you want to give it a shot, be my guest! You can upload the mp3's to dbinbox (http://dbinbox.com/ruiner9) and I'll give them a listen, and I'll credit you on the OP. So, it took a little more than an hour, but hey, perfection takes time. Also, this is a pretty big update, using files sourced by Rama Himura!

What's in it?

Banana Prince - Well, never heard of it, but the guy who composed the GI Joe soundtrack wrote it, and that was pretty good, so here it is.
G.I. Joe - I rented this game as a kid and loved it, but my mom was anti-gun so I couldn't buy it. Joke's on her! I own it now! :)
Gradius - A classic. Songs that stick in your head.
Gradius II - Another classic. More songs that stick in your head. I need to upload more shmup music. I love shmups.
Gun.Smoke - I never played this one (see G.I. Joe description.) The tracks sound pretty cool, though.
Jurassic Park - My oldest son loves dinosaurs, and I fired this one up on my EverDrive because he saw the name on the screen. Holy cow, that music! One of my favorites. The game is a bit lame, though.
Little Nemo: the Dream Master - I remember Nintendo Power having a huge article on this one, which I ignored, because a kid in his pajamas makes for a pretty lame video game hero.

So there ya go. Thanks for the files, Rama! I'm in a Super Nintendo mood, now... maybe I'll post some SNES shmups next. Any suggestions?

Another big update, and this time SNES is on the plate:

Bio Metal - I seriously don't know why they replaced the decent Japanese soundtrack with that crappy 2Unlimited techno for the USA release. It's soooo repetitive.
Darius Twin - One of my favorites growing up. VERY Japanese sounding. Some of those high notes may make your ears bleed. :)
Gradius III - I got the SNES the day it was released in the US, and then got Gradius III for Christmas, I think. It was the first time I had ever heard real cymbal crashes in VGM. I was floored.
Phalanx - Another very well-produced soundtrack, leaning on the rock side. Stuff that makes you wanna keep shooting those enemy ships up!
Rendering Ranger R2 - Didn't know much about this one, but I was looking up some SNES shmups and came across it. Very nice orchestral stuff mixed with some rock 'n roll boss battle tunes.
Super E.D.F. - Crazy time signatures and slap bass is a rad combination. The bass solo on Track 11, "Boss Attack," is totally badass.
Super R-Type - This one has kind of an industrial rock feel to it. Of all the 8 and 16-bit R-Type games, I think this one has the best soundtrack. Track 15, "Blast Rock," is a head banger.

Enjoy!

Hmmm, if you can do it that quick then I think I'll hand my favorite NSFEs to you. Instead, I will properly set the correct loop (as good as I can) to the NSFEs.

I've done some research on MEGA and I think it'll be a good mirror. I'm uploading the NES files there now, so there will be two links per soundtrack. Thanks for the suggestion!

Alright, all NES soundtracks are now hosted on both Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com) and MEGA (http://www.mega.co.nz). If you guys start using all the bandwidth on BOTH every day, well, I guess I'll start asking for donations or something.

California Games is up! I think I'm slowly gaining the entire David Wise collection, here.

Been quiet in here today... anyways, I've got 5 new NES soundtracks for ya. Also, dropbox is still down as of this posting, but the mirror link is alive and kicking.

Abadox - This game was kind of gross. It just looked very organic and fluid. It was the title that really got me into shmups, so I owe it a debt of gratitude.
Blades of Steel - There were two hockey games out in the early NES days: Ice Hockey, and Blades of Steel. If you were a wimp, you played Ice Hockey. Unfortunately, I was a wimp. But the BoS soundtrack ROCKS.
G.I. Joe - The Atlantis Factor - I can't bear to have a game on this list without it's sequels, so I had to do this one. It's by Yusuke Takahama, who also wrote the Bad Dudes and Joe & Mac Soundtracks.
Metal Gear - How has no one requested this? Anyways, Snake's Revenge will be up at some point, because of that whole sequel thing I just talked about.
Power Blade - Dude, these soundtracks are great. Taito was very under-appreciated in the sound department. It's by Kinuyo Yamashita, of Castlevania and Medarot fame, so how can it be bad?

Hi, I found something odd with your latest convertion. The tune was played not like from Nintendo sound system but rather from its clone (like Spica or something other like that). Is there any settings to change it? If you want to test, just listen to Dino Rikki from Youtube and listen to your convertion.

---------- Post added at 07:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:15 AM ----------

Hmmm, I realized that odd sounding came from the NSFEs I sent you earlier. It sounds normal over here, but why not with the convertion? I wonder...

That's one of the drawbacks of NSF rips... you can do stereo sound, but they're not always going to be 100% perfect. I'm playing the game on a real NES now, and comparing it (my PC and TV are right next to each other) and it seems that on the TV, the lower octave square wave is more prominent, where on the PC, they're both equal in volume. So yes, it sounds a bit brighter on the PC because the higher pitched square is louder... it must use a weird function call that isn't emulated on NSF players and clones because it's either very rare, or only extreme fans of the game will notice. I can look into making it sound better, but I'm not completely sure I can.

EDIT: Which NSF player are you using that makes it sound normal?

I have Spica and Micro Genius. Both will produce different sounding compared to original NES, and that was exactly happened to convertion from my NSFEs handed to you. But nothing like that happened from your collection.

I play the NSFEs using Natsofatso (winamp).

I agree. IronGoat makes some great hardware rips if you're looking for 100% sound accuracy. The limitation on that is you either get monaural sound, or two square waves in one speaker, and triangle + noise/ DMC in the other speaker. I much prefer the square waves on separate speakers, because it sounds amazing when they harmonize. I picked the method that I'm using because:

1. It's a great sounding plugin.

2. It automates a lot of the process so I can focus on the details.

3. It provides consistency in quality, meaning that:
a. The songs are tagged similarly.
b. They're all the same volume.
c. The stereophonic effect stays the same throughout albums.

4. There are more options provided than in other plugins or by using hardware.

I've downloaded a lot of NES tracks over the years, and ended up with a collection where the quality was inconsistent, I'd have to raise and lower the volume depending on who ripped what, and the loops weren't the same. (Some would only play without once without looping! WTF?)

So, that's my motive here. I'm sorry if things don't sound 100% the way that some people want, but you can't please all the people, all the time. I'm just happy that I can provide some excellent nostalgic tunes to people who appreciate it.

OK! That being said, there's some requests up! Captain Tsubasa III, IV, and V! I know V wasn't requested, but I can't just upload part of a series. :-O
They're mirrored on MEGA too, because it would be kind of lame of me to put them on DropBox while it's suspended.

Enjoy them! Rama, I'll get your latest batch done today. :)

Hi All!

There's a Super Nintendo update up!

The Mega Man series: 7, X, X2, and X3 - I have to admit, I only owned Mega Man 2 growing up... I beat it over and over again and loved it, for some reason never really gave the others a chance.
Super Adventure Island - It's Yuzo Koshiro. Duh. Seriously, I kind of hate this game. I rented it as a kid and was like, "what is this crap?" But I played it just to get to the new music so I could record it onto cassette. Deepest bass I've ever heard in a game. Such good music.
Super Mario All-Stars - Koji Kondo did a fantastic job updating his 3 soundtracks into the SPC700 format. It's nostalgic deja-vu all over again!
Super Scope 6 - There's some really cool tunes on this one, and a lot of variation. I really like how Nintendo would experiment with music on their 1st party titles. There's some very unique concepts at work here.

OK, so the two Rocket Knight games, and the Adventures of Lolo series will be up next, followed by the two previous Adventure Island NES titles. Good thing it's a long weekend in the US! No work tomorrow! :)

Nobody could replace the "after school hour" I spent with it! Captain Ameria and Jetman; both I gave the NSFEs to you because those tow were great, and Kabuki Quantum Fighter also has nice tunes but seems like not many people know about it.

I really like Kabuki Quantum Fighter's music. It's very Japanese, with kind of a glitchy industrial techno thing going on in parts. Really cool stuff!

Also, Adventure Island 1 and 2 and Adventures of Lolo 1, 2, and 3! I was pretty impressed with 3's music... it was kind of a surprise.

Sent, although the news is a little disappointing... Winamp still doesn't work that great. :(

But, be happy! NEW UPDATE!!!1!!

First up are the Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys soundtracks for the NES and the SNES. It's one of the rare occasions where the NES music composition is virtually identical to the SNES... and they both sound great. So, I decided to do a little Snes/NES mashup and combine the two versions of one of my favorite tracks, called "Be Careful." I alternated the melody of the SNES and NES throughout, played both during the times where they harmonize perfectly, and stripped the drums track of the SNES version out and played it through the whole thing to give it a bit more cohesion. Give it a listen and tell me what you think! If you like it, I may do something else like it in the future!

Ys 3 Be Careful (ruiner9 SnesNES Mix) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/109623321/Ys3%20Be%20Careful%20%28SnesNES%20Mix%29.mp3) MIRROR (https://mega.co.nz/#!5lsQ1RYZ!NCKJ4zbo1IwANgwDCWeNU3CbxK9WIrfpdkg4GmW M87Y)

OK! Also up is Zombie Nation for the NES. Kind of an interesting soundtrack. It uses lots of samples and sounds pretty unique compared to a lot of stuff out there.

Next up is a special bonus: a collection of SNES Demo and Trainer Music. You know the music that plays in ROMs where you can put in cheats, or there's some flashy loopy graphics before you start the game? Usually the music on those things is rad, and this is about 90 minutes of those tunes collected in one album. There's some really awesome stuff in there, ranging from experimental, to techno, to hip hop. Definitely check it out!

I'll be out and about today, so I won't be back online till very late tonight. Shoot me some requests! :)

Enjoy!

Yeah, good call... Super Double Dragon had a pretty good soundtrack... I was listening to "Mission 1" and it reminded me so much of the "Subway" theme from Sengoku Denshou, that I had to look at the composers to see if it was the same dude. It wasn't, but I uploaded it anyways, because it has some really good tracks. For those that don't know, Sengoku Denshou is a Japan-only port of the first Sengoku Neo-Geo game to the SNES. While the Neo-Geo version had mostly traditional Japanese ambient music, they decided to spice the SNES version up with some very hip-hip and jazz inspired music. It's a favorite OST of mine.

Yeah unfortunately the GBA player isn't that great. The tracks are listenable, but it's not as clear as the 8 and 16 bit consoles. Work stopped on the decoders a long time ago so it's probably the best it's gonna get unless someone picks the work back up again.

Ha, I wish I was able to do that! All I did to separate the drum track was mute the other channels during the SPC playback. As far as I know, the only sound driver that's been successfully ripped and widely used is the Mario World driver over at SMWCentral.

Guys!

I've been slow on the requests lately, and I apologize. I work for a school system, and all the kids are back this week, and it's been crazy, so I haven't been able to make as many albums as I would like to. Also, I'm going on vacation/ holiday this weekend, so I won't be at my computer from now till Tuesday. :(

But!

To tide you over, I have 6 awesome soundtracks for you to listen to:

Genesis

Captain America and the Avengers - By request. A nice piece of work. I forgot how hard this game was!
Gleylancer 90 minutes of upbeat, heroic action music. This is really good stuff. I think maybe I'll play this game on my phone while I'm away.
Midnight Resistance - Another Data East title. Quality tunes. Worth a listen, too.

SNES

Bishin Densetsu Zoku - All I can say is, THE DRUMS ARE VERY POWERFUL ON THIS ONE! It sounds very similar to Sengoku Denshou, but less jazzy and more aggressive. Thanks for the recommendation, Evolution01!
Hyper Zone - Guys. Oh my god, guys. This is it. Jun Ishikawa's music is amazing. The game plays like F-Zero's challenged little brother on LSD, but that MUSIC! Dancey, clear, well-produced. And this was basically a LAUNCH TITLE! Listen to it. NOW.
Waterworld - The opposite of Hyper Zone. Clear, serene, relaxing. Very cinematic, and very well-produced. I guess this game never came out in the states, which is why I wasn't familiar with it. But I could listen to that music while I fall asleep, like, every single night.

So, enjoy, guys! Think of some requests I can fill once I come back from riding 790,845 roller coasters! And I'll have access to the web, so if you wanna talk soundtracks/ composers, I'll definitely be able to respond.

Cheers! :)

You are welcome dude- Osamu Kido and Takeshi Sakamoto are another 2 of my favorite composers. I just like their soundtrack to Zoku a lot better than Sengoku Densyo on the SNES a lot better because of the hard drums, and the rockin' tunes it has on that soundtrack.

Honestly, Sengoku Denshou, Bishin Densetsu Zoku, and Mario Baseball were all I could find. It's a shame, really. They were pretty good. Now I wanna hear the baseball ost to see if I can pick out what Takeshi composed. :)

Well, I'm back from vacation, and it's September 9th. Know what that is?

Happy 14th Birthday Dreamcast!

But other than that, it's also the 20th anniversary of one of the coolest Genesis titles out there - Gunstar Heroes!

So to celebrate, Overclocked Remix (http://gunstar.ocremix.org/) has put out a brand new 2-CD remix album with some amazing soundtrack remakes, and I've gone and uploaded the original soundtrack to accompany it. Enjoy one of the games that put Treasure on the map! (Pun intended!)

Update time!

I've filled a few requests:

GameBoy:

Super Mario Land - Hiro Tanaka's first foray into Mario music. I wonder why Koji Kondo wasn't available? Anyways, the first world theme is just as memorable as the original's was.
Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins - One of the most technically impressive GB games. The music is pretty good, but I don't think it's on par with Kondo's work.
Solar Striker - Some very simple melodies to keep you shooting the baddies.

NES:

Tetris (Tengen Version) - A lot different from the licensed version, and although this version plays better than the original, the Nintendo soundtrack is much better.

Genesis:

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse - A very lighthearted OST, with whimsical themes. It sounds a little different in emulation than on the real console, but dare I say it sounds.... better, in parts? :-0
Castlevania Bloodlines - Some romping versions of everyone's favorite Castlevania tunes, like Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer. Worth a listen!

I still have some more requests to fill, so I'll be working on those tonight. In the meantime, enjoy these!

I have a question: Aren't Gameboy games already in stereo? Do you do anything to them or just rip them?

I originally just started with NES games in stereo, but then I realized I had access to a lot of other console files that were pretty obscure and/ or hard to find, so I figured I'd start taking requests for those, too. So, no... I don't really DO anything to them except make sure they sound as good as possible, and are tagged as well as possible, too. :)

Big update today!

We'll start with the Genesis stuff:

Vectorman 1+2 - I never played Vectorman. I didn't have a Genesis until well after model 2 came out, and the price dropped low enough that it was worthwhile. So I didn't get to play very many of these games. It's sad, because Vectorman looks really awesome, and the soundtrack is equally rad. Maybe I'll dig the cart out of a bargain bin somewhere and play it.

TiTAN OVERDRIVE Demo - Not really a game, per say, but this is being hailed as the most technologically superior piece of Genesis software ever conceived. The music was incredible, so I made my own VGM rip in Kega and encoded it to MP3. I think it sounds a little better than the mp3 they put up on their site, but that could just be my ego talking. :) You should either download the demo ROM or watch the YouTube video... it'll knock your shoes off.

And the NES stuff:

Contra Force and Super C - Gotta complete the Contra NES series, right? Some nice melodies here... music suitable for shooting aliens and making everything go kablooey.

Dragon Power - This was secretly the original Dragon Ball game "Americanized" for us folks in the USA. I tried it. It was... OK. But then again, I don't watch DB or DBZ.

Rush 'n Attack - *Breeeeeyow! Breeeeeyow!* Ha, that siren brought back memories. Rama requested this one and Contra Force a while back and I totally missed it. My apologies, dude! Here it is! The guys who worked on this soundtrack went on to create lots of other famous games.

From VGM Daily:

"Rush ’n Attack‘s console port was composed by four guys. Shinya Sakamoto was one of Konami’s main composers for the NES, working on Life Force and The Castlevania Adventure among others. Another composer, Iku Mizutani, found his way to composing Metal Gear on the MSX before leaving to compose Shadow of the Ninja for Natsume (he now works at THQ). Hevimeta Satoe (Heavy Metal Satoe) is an alias for an unknown composer. He worked with most of the other team on King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch for the Famicom (another fun soundtrack). Lastly, Masanori Adachi had a rather prolific history, composing Contra III: The Alien Wars, Suikoden, and Little King’s Story."

Pretty rad! Hey, Contra III. That's a good one. And maybe Contra Hard Corps on the Genesis. Yes. I'll do those next.

Any more requests?

As I said yesterday, I was working on more Contra stuff. Well, here they are!

Contra III - The Alien Wars was a Super Nintendo classic. The sound effects were loud and crazy, the music was cinematic and driving... the whole game just rocked.
Contra: Hard Corps was like Alien Wars on steroids. A lot of the Treasure development team worked on it, so there were tons of wacky bosses, and the difficulty was through the roof. There's about an hour of excellent music in the album!

Also, I've separated out the Sega CD tunes into their own section. I think I'll be adding more in the future, and the tracks sound so different from the Genesis tunes, that I wanted to break them away.

Speaking of Sega CD, I've added Silpheed. The music in the actual game is pretty hard to hear, with the explosions and radio chatter going on all the time. Separated out, and with the bitrate increased a bit via the VGM player, it really shows how excellent the tracks are! The tracks labeled (demo) in the album are rips from the FMV sequences in the game, so the quality is noticeably lower than the actual game music. If you haven't played the game before, check it out, especially if you like shoot 'em ups!

All three TMNT Tournament Fighters titles had different soundtracks, and they were all by veteran Konami composers, so they were all good. And, they're all uploaded!

So, ever hear of Alien Soldier?

Around 1995, Treasure kind of lost it's mind for a while, and decided they were going to make the hardest, fastest, most ridiculous console game ever. The result was this game. See where it says "Now is time to the 68000 heart on fire?" Yeah, they're talking about running Sega's Motorola x68000 processor to it's absolute limits... ON THE TITLE SCREEN. Insanity. It's got about an hour's worth of frenetic music that most people never hear, because they can't get very far in the game (I've only made it to level 2 without Game Genie codes.) Well, now you can hear it, cuz it's uploaded!

And, to get back to roots a little, there's two Data East titles in the NES section - Bad Dudes and Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja. I like both soundtracks, but they're too short. The SNES Joe & Mac music was top notch, and I'll be putting that up in the near future.

As always, I hope you dig 'em!

One small NES update this morning, which was a request from Rama. He thought he could stump me!

I am searching for music rip from a NES pirated multicart called Super
190 in 1. It actually has other variants like 100 in 1 function 16. It
has awesome menu music.

If you happen to find it please rip it for me.

An NSF of an obscure Chinese pirate cart? Too hard a request to fill? Well, I happen to own both multicarts he mentioned! And, the music from both are actually from a Japanese-only retail game called Booby Kids.

Yes, that wasn't a typo. Booby Kids.

The game has really good music, and tracks 4 and 10 are the menu themes from the multicart titles. If you guys want to stump me, you have to try harder! ;)

How do you do the gameboy soundtracks? Do you use gbs. files with a player or Winamp plugin?
Because i have no clue what the best player or plugin would be to use and how to loop/time tracks.

ruiner9
09-15-2013, 02:27 AM
Yeah, I use GBS files and Winamp. For games that aren't pre-tagged, it's all manual work. You have to tag them yourself with as much info as you can find, and then use a program like Audigy or Sound Forge to cut the loops. There's no easy way to do it.

A smattering of updates for a few systems just went up:

Dark Lord - I totally found this NES game by accident. It's a Japanese RPG-style game with combat that's kind of Zelda, and kind of Final Fantasy. The music is beautifully done. The songs have great melodies and sound fantastic in stereo. It was so good, that I searched out the English translation of the game and patched the ROM so that I could play more of it. Give it a listen.

Joe and Mac - I recorded this to cassette back in the day, and used to listen to it on my Walkman when I went for rides in the family car. The sound samples are clear as a bell, and there's a nice tribal feel to the beats, with vocal samples in a few tracks. This one brought back memories.

Beetle Adventure Racing! - Anyone who wants to argue about N64 tracks sounding terrible need only download this one to be proven wrong. I listened to the whole thing in the car on the way to work and I was actually impressed with myself in how well it came out. This game had some great music, and if you like the early Chemical Brothers albums, or any sort of acid jazz, or just some really well-produced beats and grooves, check it out. And after hearing how much clearer everything sounds here than on a real N64, you might want to request some other games for me to upload. :)

I should have some time today to do more albums (and BTW Lefance, your request is still processing on my home computer! It ended up being 4GB of wav files. :-O )

What else can I put up today?

uut - Castlevania - The Adventure has been updated with the missing tracks. I found a complete version so I ripped the whole thing over again. Just redownload it!

There was an OST for this game but it is impossible to find, but as far as I know, the one who made the psf rip, took some songs from the OST so this should be very complete. Awesome work! Did you know that Machi was ranked as the second (or was it third) best game ever in Japan a few years ago... There is also a PSP version.

I don't think a sound novel would ever be considered even CLOSE to a "best game ever" list in the USA... everyone wants their Call of Duty here. :P

I have two requested uploads going up in a few minutes! Both Kirby's Dream Land games for the GameBoy and GBC. The first (and most classic) soundtrack was written by Jun Ishikawa, who you may remember I was gushing about when I uploaded Hyper Zone a while back. Everybody loves Kirby!

My next project is the entire Mario Kart lineage from SNES to DS. I have some new GBA and DS decoders which I'm testing out, which are promising to be better than what's publicly available. I'll give them a test listen and put them up tonight if they get my stamp of approval.

Enjoy!

OK, so I got MOST of Mario Kart. The GBA decoder sounds utterly horrendous with this soundtrack, so I couldn't put it up. The SNES, N64, and DS versions are there, though!

Also, because I don't know why I haven't yet, I added the first 2 Streets of Rage games. The first one is one of the Genesis's most famous soundtracks, and rightly so. Yuzo Koshiro made great use of the FM synth, and the high hats actually sound like high hats! Welll... almost.

I'll add the third game later this evening or tomorrow!

Going back to the roots... some NES stereo uploads for ya:

Rygar - Certainly a classic. The super-heroic tunes really brought back memories. Kind of reminds of Metroid in places, a little.
Yoshi's Cookie - Now THESE are some chill tunes. Even the "hurry up!" music sounds relaxed! I love the reggae sound in the single player tracks.
ZEN: Intergalactic Ninja - An often-overlooked Konami title that's the opposite of Yoshi's Cookie: Very fast-paced and full of that Konami percussion that's in all their NES titles.

And on the Genesis side:

Streets of Rage 3 - I used to think this soundtrack was just crazy noise pretending to be musc. I guess after listening to lots of dubstep and Aphex Twin, I've learned to listen to it as music, and it's actually an amazing piece of work. This and Contra Hard Corps are now my favorite Genesis soundtracks.

Enjoy! I'll be in all weekend, so throw me some crazy requests!

Kirby's Adventure is already in the NES section. If you need a program to open the file, use 7Zip at this page (http://www.7-zip.org/download.html). It's free, and handles almost any compressed file you can throw at it.

Both StarTropics are up! This is like, the most tropical soundtrack for an RPG ever. Even the music from the spaceship level sounded like island music. Also, Chaos World is here, too. I had never heard it before, but as soon as I heard the title theme, I was like, "This is pretty good. And... it sounds like Konami music?" That's when I found out the composers worked on Rush 'n Attack and some other Konami titles back in the day, as well as the Power Rangers SNES games from Bandai. Not a bad resume!

Also, I uploaded Thunder Fox in the Genesis section, because I played through it while I was recovering from some surgery over the weekend and the first level music totally got stuck in my head. I love those big, juicy drum samples.

Enjoy, and throw me some more requests! :)

I do, actually! It's freshly uploaded. There's not much original music, just four short tracks, but it's very typical Koji Kondo/ "HIP" Tanaka stuff that nobody gets to hear a lot. I mean, technically the full soundtrack includes Super Mario Bros, Rad Racer, and Tetris, but those are all already uploaded, so you can make your own full soundtrack if you wish. :)

Alright, BIG update! Here we go:

On the SNES, we have Star Fox, Super Mario RPG, Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past, Kirby Super Star, and Wolverine - Admantium Rage. All (except Wolverine) are requested Nintendo classics. I added Wolverine because the music is very... unique. It... like... TRIES to be good, but fails in a weird way. There's some really neat tracks, but the rest is kind of embarrassing. And there's almost an hour's worth of it. Yep.

On the NES, two requests: Yoshi and Wario's Woods. Both are puzzly Nintendo-published games that came out late in the NES's life, and they both have those trademark Ninty whimsical tunes.

There's a lot of music there... enjoy it!

Anyone know of any worthy TG16/ PC Engine game music out there? I have a few, but I want to have a bunch before I put the section up.

I'll check those out! If I can improve upon the sound that's been posted here already, or if I can't find it at all, I'll upload it.

As far as game music that sounds like the Follins' stuff? ...that's tough. The closest you'll come to is David Wise (gameography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Wise_(composer))) and David Warhol (gameography (http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=David_Warhol).) They both had more of an American/ UK rock sound in their compositions, like Tim Follin. Also, I recommend the Sunsoft titles Fester's Quest, Mr. Gimmick!, Batman, and Batman - Return of the Joker because they use extra sound channels that make them sound a bit more advanced than normal NES sounds. Start with Mr. Gimmick! since it has the best composition out of all of them.

I threw it in my trusty JVC X'Eye a couple days ago to check it out, and I had no idea what the heck I was doing. Some weird ship flew around that I could turn into a robot, and it would shoot bullets, and I could blow up the blue ship/ robot, but I couldn't do much else. Anyways, the music was AMAZING... well, the 3 tracks I heard anyways. So I listened to the rest on the PC and was blown away. I ripped it right away so you guys could enjoy it. It's up now!

Michael Jackson's Moonwalker - OK, so the game isn't that great, and kind of fails compared to the arcade version, but the Genesis interpretations of MJ's hit songs actually sound pretty good! I figured an upload was worthwhile.

Knivesman - I'm pretty sure I have a few of those discs at home. I'll see what I can do this evening!

A few more Genesis goodies to fill your Sega sacks: The amazing OutRunners, the hard-to-find Pulseman, and the classic Sword of Vermilion.

Also, a first for this thread... CD Audio! Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire is an amazing shooter on the PC Engine CD, and the soundtrack is full of slick electronics meeting crazy guitar riffs.

Enjoy them!

Sefthuji joins in 2007 and makes his/her very first post 6 years later, to request a soundtrack in my thread. How could I refuse? Mendel Palace is up! Unfortunately there's very little track info available, so they're not named, but they are time-cut and tagged with all the other info I could find.

And secondly, Quackshot. Written by Kamiya Studio, who also scored Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. Very whimsical stuff. I like it!

I've been really getting into Genesis/ MD music lately. I need more stuff that sounds like Contra Hard Corps and Hybrid Front: Dancy, heavy, almost industrial tunes. What else out there sounds like these games?

Well I can't just add awesome music without explaining why I chose it, right? :) Thanks for the kind words!

So, guys... why didn't anyone tell me about Mega Turrican? Oh.. My.. GOOBERS, this is one heck of a soundtrack. Chris Hulsbeck is a pretty righteous dude. Definitely check this one out.

I've also included Super Turrican 1 and 2, both also composed by Hulsbeck. I gotta say, I'm really not a huge fan of the 2nd one... both the music and the game itself seem a little thrown together. However, the ending music is like 8 minutes long and pretty incredible. It's worth the download just for that track alone.

And we've got another PC Engine CD soundtrack... Cho Aniki! This game series got gayer as it went on, and I don't mean "gay" as in "bad," I mean it as in, "homosexual." They're really fun to play, if you can keep your eyes dry from laughing so hard. I couldn't find a tracklisting that wasn't in Japanese, so I used Google Translate to get the tracknames, and then used a little bit of artistic license to make them make more sense. Still, they sound pretty absurd anyways. :-P

It's the weekend! I have no idea what albums I'm going to do next, but I promise they'll be cool!

Hello ruiner9,

Thanks so much for all of the uploads. Between this thread and The Iron Goat's posts I've found a lot of VGM I was looking for, including a few soundtrack I can't seem to find elsewhere. Your work is much appreciated.

If I could make a few requests/recommendations, I'd be interested in uploads of Undead Line, Super Fantasy Zone and Outrun for the Genesis. Outrun has some classic tunes, Super Fantasy Zone is a candy-colored horizontal shooter with an upbeat, poppy soundtrack, and Undead Line is an obscure fantasy-themed vertical scrolling shooter with a good mix of Genesis rock and more moody tracks.

OK, there was an extra space at the end of the download link. I tested it, it's working, so NOW you can download it. Sorry about that.

Coming up later today: Undead Line, Fantasy Zone, and Flashback: The Quest for Identity (GEN and SNES!)

It's Genesis time! (Or Mega Drive time, depending on your country!)

So here's what's on the menu today:

Flashback - I love this game. I own it on every platform it was ever released on, including the PC and Jaguar version. The music isn't anything that's going to make your pants fall off, but it has a certain cinematic quality to it that really complements the gameplay. If you're gonna download one version, get the Genesis version... it has more music, and I think it actually sounds a little better.

Outrun - Kind of silly to have OutRunners without Outrun, right? So these are the original versions of a lot of the tunes in the sequel. Classics!

Super Fantasy Zone - This game both looks and sounds like an SNES game. Vibrant colors, a sample-heavy, bright soundtrack without the FM synth so often found in Genesis music, and simpler gameplay all seem very much like it was made for Nintendo's platform. That said, the music is really quite awesome! This and Mega Turrican are my two awesome finds of the week. This is why I love requests! Thanks, Elwood!

Undead Line - If somebody had decided to take Castlevania and make a vertical shoot 'em up out of it, this would probably be it. Crazy bosses, crazy levels, some endlessly running dude that doesn't even stop jogging when the screen stops... this game has it all! I played all the way through it last night, and it is TOUGH. If you try to play it, use the flamethrower weapon. Destroys everyone super fast!

I also just played through Wings of Wor and thought it was pretty cool... kind of like a horizontally-scrolling Castlevania shmup. I'm noticing a trend here.... Maybe I'll upload that soon.

Enjoy the albums! And as always, throw me some requests!

OK, here's two games which have more or less been forgotten over the years:

Felix the Cat - A late release by Hudson Soft, coming out in '92. The game looks pretty good from the YouTube videos I've seen, and the music is very good, too. I think the license is where they went wrong; Who cares about Felix the Cat? I mean, *I* don't. :P

Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York - Also a 1992 game, this one won numerous awards... for being the worst game of the year. The very prolific Mark van Hecke (http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Mark_Van_Hecke) wrote the music, though, and it seems like he wasn't as rushed as he had been on some other projects, because this one turned out quite well. George Sanger of Maniac Mansion fame wrote the first Home Alone game, so I'll put that up sometime in the near future.

How's everyone's weekend going? It's pretty gloomy in New England, but we're gonna try to get to a town fair so my kiddos can sit in the fire trucks. They looooove fire trucks.

Thanks so much for the uploads. I’m glad you liked Super Fantasy Zone. I first heard about the game and it's soundtrack via this video by SpiralPegasus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz1hirELo00), where he talks about great Genesis music (excluding the obvious choices of Sonic and Streets of Rage), some of which includes soundtracks you've put up here.

Not to get overzealous with the requests, but there are a few SNES games I’d love to see uploaded as well.

The big one for me is Famicom Tantei Club Part II: Ushiro ni Tatsu Shōjo (aka Famicom Detective Club Part II). A murder mystery visual novel type game, I can’t seem to find a proper rip of the music anywhere. Some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TiEfain5LM) samples (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJc1ymUWe6Y) here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-peVd1-Sowk).

Other than that, I’d like to see Seiken Densetsu 3, Soul Blazer, Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Mario Paint.

Crazy. Huge. Update. I know I said I was going to update a few things last night, but I got a little too sucked into GTA 5. My bad! Can you ever forgive me? ;)

OK, so to start off... the requests:

Famicom Tantei Club Part II: Ushiro ni Tatsu Shōjo - Quite a long soundtrack full of expertly-composed jazzy tunes. It's great chill-out music, but there's some suspenseful stuff in there, too.
Mario Paint - Like the Super Scope 6 soundtrack, this one has a lot of the experimental stuff that Nintendo does in their first-party niche titles. Hiro "HIP" Tanaka worked on this one, and his influence is very apparent.
Legend of the Mystical Ninja - I played this one a bit as a kid. I think I rented it for a while until I finally beat it. I didn't remember the soundtrack, but once I heard it, the oriental melodies and sweet basslines reminded me of the game. Good music here!
Seiken Densetsu 3 - What, like only 3 hours of music? No sweat! This one's a big file, but worth it if you like excellently scored orchestral-style soundtracks. Oh, BTW, this is Secret of Mana 2, which never came out in the US, but there's a great English translation patch out for it.
Soul Blazer - I don't think I played this game. I normally stayed away from fantasy-style games as a kid, opting for the sci-fi or brawler-style games instead. The music is nice... kind of sweeping and march-like.

And the rest is stuff I discovered myself. Are you familiar with the name Jesper Kyd? Well, he composed the music for Assassin's Creed, Hitman, Borderlands 2... all sorts of AAA titles. he got his start on the Amiga, though, and and the Genesis shortly afterward. So, I've uploaded his whole collection: The Adventures of Batman and Robin, AWS Pro Moves Soccer, Sub-Terrania, and Red Zone.

I had to break soundtrack convention when making his albums, because his tracks are SOOOO LOOONG that they ended up being over 2 hours for like, 18 tracks. So I've made them only play through once, with the exception of the very short soccer soundtrack. So if you like crazy hardcore industrial techno with a side of "how did the Genesis soundchip even DO that?", then download his stuff, and rock out. It's really really good. I think the Genesis is becoming my favorite music system, which is nuts because I was a die-hard SNES music fan before I started making albums!

Two new import SNES soundtracks today!

First up is Dynami Tracer, or BS Dynami Tracer on some sites, seeing as how it was a BS Satellaview game. It's a very obscure game that never came out in cartridge format, and only in Japan. Square developed it, and the music was created by none other that Nobuo Uematsu! It's not his usual stuff, though... no orchestration here. It's really crazy music, made up of mostly vocal samples and beatboxing. Think of it like a cross between Panic! for the Sega CD and the excellent Katamari Damacy soundtracks. I urge you to give it a listen... it really shows off the SNES's music strengths.

Secondly, another Japan-only release called Gunple: Gunman's Proof. Imagine if Link had a sidearm in the Zelda games, and you'll have an idea of what this is about. The music is maybe a little western, a little military.... but it's all really good. The game is awesome too! It just came out too late in the SNES lifespan to make it's way overseas.

Enjoy the albums! What else should I put up?

Since you mention it in the beginning of the thread, I wonder what your availability for GBA games is? There's a few I've had no luck in finding music uploads for.

Monster Gate and Monster Gate 2 (two Japan-only, Mystery Dungeon-esque rogue likes). Some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E70_Qeu7qPk) Examples (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHy0Gi6iqfI).
Tomato Adventure (an early game by the team who does the Mario & Luigi RPGs). Some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2XnxI04MhM) examples (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIbHsHb2XOQ).

Otherwise here's a few suggestions:
Super Adventure Island (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8sSX8GBdyw&list=PLCFADD588C5062E30&index=35), Treasure Conflix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mvRsxkWKCY), Timecop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOrU0NuV17E), and The Addams Family: Pugsley’s Scavenger Hunt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj1OX-d_chs) (SNES)

It's going to be quite a while before Tomato Adventure and the Monster Gate series games are even available on the web in gsf format... The Portable Music History (http://snesmusic.org/pmh/) archive has them listed, but they're doing releases in chronological order, very slowly, and those titles are a ways off. I can definitely do the console releases though. Super Adventure Island is there already (you must have missed it!) and the others I'll work on tomorrow. :)

Alrighty, Elwood... Your order is ready! Got some nice stuff today...

On the SNES:

Addams Family - Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt - Possibly the most Victorian SNES soundtrack ever committed to a game. Lots of harpsichord here, and if you don't know what that is, you will after listening to these tracks. It's OK, though, because the arrangements are awesome.
Time Cop - The total opposite end of the spectrum! Probably the most... urban? soundtrack I've heard. Crazy heavy beats, lots of vocal samples, and a very "Demolition Man" kind of atmosphere.
Treasure Conflix - A SatellaView game, like Dynami Tracer, and also by Square. A really high-quality production... lots of sweeping orchestral music, but very upbeat. We're 3 for 3 in quality!

And on the Genesis:

Alisia Dragoon - Taking a step even furhter back from Victorian, this one is straight outta Medieval Times. I think I hear a lute and a cornett in there, somewhere!
Lemmings - Whoa. Unexpected music, until I noticed it's from Sunsoft. This soundtrack sounds almost like demo scene music: dancy, complex, and uptempo. It's really good!
Wings of Wor - I meant to post this alongside Undead Line a few days ago, but forgot. Both are shooters with heavy Castlevania influence, both have crazy, ugly-as-heck bosses, and both are pretty freaking hard! This soundtrack is a bit more orchestral and militaristic than UL's is, though.

Enjoy! :)

Two updates today!

Crest of Wolf - A PC Engine CD game that's like Final Fight, but slightly worse. But! It's a CD game, so you can expect big drum sounds and wailing guitars! LOTS of wailing guitars!

Dynamite Headdy - Hailed as one of the greatest Genesis games of all time, the soundtrack largely contributed to that distinction. It's eclectic and accessible, and lots of fun.

Enjoy!

Been a little while since I did any NES albums out of the blue, right? Here's a few!

Mighty Final Fight - I think this was the last Capcom soundtrack to grace the NES's soundchip. I remember when this came out in '93 and I was like, "they're STILL making NES games?" Still, you can tell from the quality of the music that Capcom still knew what they were doing.

Ski or Die! - Rob Hubbard's a talented dude. Skate or Die! was great, and this follows suit.

Ys 1 and Ys 2 - I got a name that will get you to download these tracks: Yuzo Koshiro. To back up my point, from Wikipedia -

The Ys series is particularly known for its original music soundtracks by Yuzo Koshiro, Mieko Ishikawa, and Hideya Nagata. The composers' works have been remixed for each subsequent release of Ys I and II, for instance, by Japanese computer musician Ryo Yonemitsu for Hudson Soft's Ys I & II and Ys III: Wanderers from Ys releases for TurboGrafx-CD. The TurboGrafx versions made very early use of Red Book audio in video games.

And they're right. The Ys soundtracks have always stood on their own as beautiful works. Check out how it all started, in stereo! :)

Hey! Welcome back!

So yeah, I think I can manage that. No title tags, though. It's a shame that every single Genesis/MD game, and every single SNES game is fully tagged and easily available, but NES game music is so horribly disorganized. I wonder how it got to be like that? Even the sites with tagged games only have a handful of titles each...

But I digress. Famicom Tantei Club - Kieta Koukeisha is available for your listening pleasure!

Glad to see the original Famicom Tantei Club got uploaded. The main reason I didn't ask for it myself was I wasn't sure if you were up for uploading Famicom Disk System games.

If there aren’t many other requests in the queue, perhaps I could make a few more suggestions?

For the SNES:
Jaki Crush, Actraiser 2, Hamelin no Violin Tamaki (The Violinist of Hamelin), Live A Live, S.O.S, Tactics Ogre and Rudra no Hihou (Treasure of the Rudras)

For the Genesis:
El Viento, Crusader of Centy
