Why is Final Fantasy so great?

To me, Final Fantasy's concept isn't what makes it great (Save the world... isn't that the same in a lot of movies and stuff nowadays?). Instead, what I believe makes Final Fantasy great is how they can take a simple plot of saving the world and turn it into a really large adventure game. Any RPG out there, for the most part, is about saving a world or saving something. Final Fantasy is no exception but anyone can save the world... how would you like to save the world? That is what each Final Fantasy differs from game to game.

Not only are you saving the world in these RPGs, you are also understanding the character who is saving the world. You got a simple plot but there are some complexities when it comes to how the character you control respond to other characters. That is what made Final Fantasy so great after Final Fantasy 4, character development and their hardships. All RPGs soon follow suit.

But what makes FF better than other RPGs? Well, to me, each Final Fantasy game is a totally different experience so I wouldn't say what makes this series better than other games, it would be correct to say what makes Final Fantasy (insert number here) better than other RPGs.

But yeah... whatever the hell I just said, I just said it. :O

btw, Final Fantasy 2 was about saving an empire I believe, along with Final Fantasy XI.

What makes Final Fantasy great is not just the graph or the battle style its about It's story...So if are playing without a point or goal the game well be borring...And The Best of it that it is like reading a story.

Maybe they should write a game that's about saving a parallel Universe... Or maybe about saving the main character's muffin. Mmmmm... Muffin...

If you wanna sum things up as basically as that, then every RPG is the same. Chrono Trigger: Save the world. Wild Arms: Save the world. Grandia 1 and 2: Save the world. Breath of Fire III + IV: Save the world. Legaia 2: Save the world. Wild Arms 3: Save the... Well, you get the point...

What makes Final Fantasy great is the interaction between the characters in the party, and their own stories within the game. Each character has a bit to play, and something to add, and someone whom you can't control but whom adds to the game with their own story in some way. :)

I really have to disagree with this. While the story can make Final Fantasy great, videogames MUST have good gameplay or else you're just going to the goal in the slowest and most agonizing way possible. Graphics, though not important, really are required to show off emotions of the characters and to show the power of what the story is about.

What makes Final Fantasy great to me might not make it so to Joe down the street, so it's really an aquired taste unique to each person. I play FF because of the story (and the cast of charaters) and the music and graphics that help to tell it.

They did that in FFV, it was cool and different.

I dont know about FFII, but FFXI you are trying to get/keep your Kingdom in the number 1 position over the other two kingdoms.
You want your kingdom to be ranked 1/3. You also raise through the ranks, meet lots of new and interesting friends. Improve yourself as a character by developing many jobs, and skills such as crafting blacksmithing, cooking, fishing and so forth. There is soo much to do. You have misions and quests to do for every mingdom and some other places.

You dont ever actually beatthe game, you just get to a certain point and start working on something else.
