Sadly the CD release it self is somewhat lacking. Albeit much better than many of the lossy direct videogame rips out there. I just can't comprehend how Circle of the Moon (one of the best Castlevania games out there) did NOT get a dedicated CD retail release or symphonic suite.

Another fun oddity regarding Circle of the Moon is that the label title on the GBA box (EU release, not sure about the rest) only says "Castlevania".
The "Circle of the Moon" name is only ever mentioned on the game title screen once you play.

Yeah, I never knew why was that, but it was quite odd as you noted. I don't know why there are times where names are fiddled with, to be honest, especially when they lack reasoning or relevance. Reminds me of when they renamed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK because ninja sounded "violent". Lol.

It was pretty much the same here in Sweden, actually I think it was the case in all of Europe at that time. The Darkwing Duck cartoon was even banned here in Sweden because of it suggestive violence.
Somewhere, someone made the outrageous assumption that watching DD turned kids into violent monsters (and they pointed to a case in northern Sweden where some kids had beaten up another kid).

Same ordeal happened a few years later with Power Rangers.

But I hardly think this is the underlying reason for the Castlevania name change. Possibly it was thought to be a better market fit if they only called it 'Castlevania'. Same reason why they fiddle with the box art :<
