This album is the result of love, hard work, saving money on rare LPs and recording equipment, staying up at night researching obscure library music, and a shrubbery. I've been working on collecting all the library incidental music from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and after almost three months of constant work of collecting, remastering, digitizing, and encoding, I'm very proud to introduce the first volume of "MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL (UNRELEASED LIBRARY MUSIC SOUNDTRACK)"!



This volume contains 3 recently rediscovered songs I found that have been missing and unidentified for over 35 years. It also contains some super tough-to-find library tracks that makes this collection super special and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. The three newly ID'd tracks are: Mexican Busker, Eveil A L'Aube, and Achievement. Mexican Busker and Homeward Bound - arguably the most famous song in the film - respectively didn't exist on the Internet and was of low quality mp3. Therefore, they were required to be obtained physically on vinyl and then digitized. I never digitized vinyl before so I had to get a high quality phono preamp, as well as replace my parent's turntable cartridge, costing me just over $100. But, as far as I can tell, this is the cleanest copy of the original 1970 recording of Homeward Bound that's currently available.

Unfortunately, some tracks like "Eveil A L'Aube" and "Countrywide" suffer from some lossy artifacting, but it's not really noticeable, except to audiophiles such as myself. Fortunately, Eveil A L'Aube is a common track thanks to the official release of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" Library Music a few years back and overall the effect is not that distracting. Other than that, all the tracks are in excellent condition, especially considering the majority of them are from 40 year old 12" records.

Also note that songs composed by Neil Innes are not part of this collection as his music was written for the film and not really library music. He wrote the some of the fanfares, the Monk Chant, Camelot Song, the music in the "Sunset" animation and the music and stings in the "Knights who say Ni" and "Three Headed Knight" scenes. I believe he wrote other songs for the movie but I don't have enough evidence yet.

The majority of the music in the movie has been identified but some tracks do remain elusive. The music that plays during "Scene 24" and the first track that plays when Sir Galahad enters the Castle Anthrax are the two most important songs that I'd like to identify before continuing releasing more volumes, so if anyone has any information on these Dewolfe library tracks, that would be greatly appreciated!

I apologize in advance for any inconvenience but I will not be giving the download link directly for several reasons, that I'm sure you'll all understand, so the only way to get the soundtrack is to PM me and I'll be more than happy to send you the link. The Viking Ship theme is Stanley Black - The Promised Land. Fortunately, it's one of the easier to find tracks from the movie. Unfortunately the God Choir that plays when Arthur meets God is a Neil Innes song. That being said, I can see if the 5.1 surround sound mix has a clean version of it. :)

I wish they did that too, but I have a suspicion as to why they haven't yet; because they don't know all of the music used in the film. For example, the 5.1 surround sound mix on the Holy Grail DVD is missing a few songs from the original mono mix, like the mysterious string cue from Scene 24 and the cue when Lancelot gets the arrow message (I did identify this cue and I will release it soon in VOL. 2).

The opposite is true for "Flying Circus". Surprisingly, almost all the music used in Flying Circus was documented by the BBC and printed in book form in "Monty Python's Flying Circus: An Utterly Complete, Thoroughly Unillustrated, Absolutely Unauthorised Guide". That's how they identified all the songs for the Dewolfe release. That being said, Flying Circus didn't use the Dewolfe library exclusively as they also used KPM, Chappell and various others. For example, KPM's David Lindup's "Superformance" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX0HEeuajzQ) for "The Bishop" sketch and Chappell's very catchy "Les Fous De Soleil" from the "Olympic Hide and Seek" sketch. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFc2qpSXToU)

A friend of mine found the "Tale of Sir Robin, Sir Galahad and Sir Lancelot" cue! I thought this was a Neil Innes track but, fortunately, I was wrong and now I have a copy of the full song! This track will definitely be on the VOLUME 2 release. :D
