I'm not gonna post the Batman trilogy, Inception, Prometheus, etc as many have already seen those.

Watch:
Man Of Steel - I heard both good and bad things about it. But I liked it. I don't really buy into rumors, but they suggest that Man Of Steel, depending on how good it does will be the start of the build towards a Justice League film, set reportedly for a 2015 release. There's a Easter egg in the movie. Snyder already revealed it, but I still won't say it here since I don't wanna spoil it. That Easter egg prompts me to ponder that Man Of Steel might be the start of a Justice League movie. 2015 is perfect as JL could compete with Avengers 2. Of Course, I'll be watching both films. Apparently Man Of Steel did good enough to spawn a sequel, which is being worked on, I think.

Shutter Island

This was my first Martin Scorsese film that I have ever seen and I absolutely loved it! I will say though that the story can get quite sad and depressing, especially towards the end. But its also very suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The filmmaking is fantastic, and the use of music is very well done too. This is also a film that requires to be watched multiple times in order to understand, but its totally worth it. There's a ton more positive things I can say about this film, but it would become an essay rather than a quick post.

Check it out!

Perfect way to describe Dark City.

Disney's The Black Hole (1979) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078869/).

Before it gets remade. Some deep religious undertones in there.
They don't straight out say Heaven VS Hell but the imagery has very strong allusions to those themes very damn well.
Also some of the story elements too.

But generally, a slow-paced but very captivating film.
At the then when it was created and made its debut, it was the first (Disney) film of its kind to have upgraded graphics.

It was the late 70's. SO stretch your imagination and... "adjust for inflation" and all that crap.

In that same manner as accepting graphics and special effects "for its time", I highly recommend the original "The Evil Dead (1981) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083907/)"
It's another movie that gets laughed at today but when it made its debut, it was the talk of the century and had a lot of "magic" put into it.
I really put myself into the film when I watched it again after so many years with a clear mind and found the film truly amazing and shocking.
Actually horrific. Horrific in context. Horrific in story. Even more so than the remake. I'm in my 30's so the remake doesn't come off as "scary" at all to me. I'm not 12.

Well for me that would be:

Fried Green Tomatoes(only 'chick flick' I can stand)
Serenity(one scene reminded me of FFX)
Lost Horizon(my mother recently purchased the original 1937 black and white version, and I more listened than watched it at first, but the message/theme is timeless, and it also could be construed as a LONG Twilight Zone episode)

Your first Scorsese movie?! Oh man, his filmography is well worth exploring. You should follow that up with a back-to-back double feature of Goodfellas and Casino for his incomparable and stylish depiction of the mafia. Then check out Taxi Driver and Raging Bull for his unflinching portrayal of angst and brutal determination. And also watch The Last Temptation of Christ for a unique and reflective experience. Hell, even any one of his less known films are underrated!

Leon The Professional (Excellent film, wonderful cast. A good revenge flick)
Reservoir Dogs (Best Tarantino Film and his big debut. Good Gangster flick with all kinds of twists)
The Lost Highway (The bizarre mind fuck from David Lynch. Not for everyone, I'll admit, but I love it)
Being John Malkovich (See it. It's entertaining, funny, and weird plus you got John Malkovich)
Blood Simple (Coen Brother film. Starts off simple, but things get complicated and bloody)

Yup! I later ended up seeing The Departed as well. Didn't enjoy it as much as Shutter Island. Great filmmaking overall, and fantastic acting, but I didnt really care for the story or the characters all that much. :/ But that's just me. I know a lot of people really like that film. I do plan to watch more Scorsese films in the near future! And I definatly want to go see The Wolf of Wall Street when it comes out later this year. That trailer looks FANTASTIC!

SAME! It also looks like he's bringing back and mixing some stylistic elements from his previous work too and it might turn out to be Leo's next best role. I kinda agree about The Departed as well, it's pretty good but it doesn't compare to his much better films. It's still a lot better and entertaining than much of what's out now. If you didn't know, it was adapted from the arguably better Infernal Affairs Trilogy from Hong Kong that are also worth the watch. The third movie is a big drop in quality though while the second is it's highest point.
