Thank you very much for this! I am absurdly excited for this movie, and so by extension I am also excited for this soundtrack. Even if it is by Ramin Djawadi, who is one of my least favorite composers.

As in I don't like him that much.

As in the only piece of music that I actually enjoyed without any misgivings from him was Mhysa from Game of Thrones Season 3.

Still, thanks for the upload!

I've come to enjoy all 3 of the scores, but by far I love Djawadi's theme most of all, it works because it's before he's officially a 'superhero' therefor an overly heroic theme doesn't need to stand out as triumphantly, an in terms of continuity brian tyler's score holds up to the franchise respectively, whereas I enjoyed Debney's score, but not as part of the iron man film; meaning it was by no means an assault on my ears in film, it just wasn't, modern day Iron man per say, so I view it as it's own musical entity and enjoy it simply as itself. Tyler's theme is just brilliant, though, I love it.

Really though why all the hate on Djawadi's IM????

But it fits the film perfectly. The orchestral rock type sound for it screams 'I am a narcissistic billionaire' lol It is by no means an intelligent score, compared to say, Cloud Atlas or Lord Of The Rings, or even a notion from dear John Williams or Desplat, but it is exactly what I expect out of a film like this, and it works. Sometimes there are those scores you have to just sit back, enjoy, and not even think about :P

I don't mind guitars in my scores - I mind if they are used POORLY. And boy, were they unimginative as fuck in IM1. Tyler used them to great effect in IM3. Or look at StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

Better yet, let's use Goldenthal's use of guitars in SWAT as the gold standard.

I don't know - I mean, Debney's score for IM2 was very flawed. But even then it still was leaps and bounds better than IM1. At least then there was some measure of melodies and motion.

I don't fully agree it's "very flawed" but i do agree that it was leaps and bounds better than IM1, just like Doublehex mentioned - it has some measure of melodies and motion and if i may add, all of it came to naught being overpowered by the heavy sound effects.

Reminds me most of John Powell's work for The Bourne Identity, so much so that I wish Djawadi had scored The Bourne Legacy instead of James Newton Howard, this score would have worked really well in that movie.

This sounds like Djawadi's Iron Man 2 score, had he been asked to do it. Maybe Deltoro liked Djawadi's Iron Man score. He was excited about Djawadi doing the soundtrack.

I enjoyed one track only, the rest sounded like mush, so much that it made me appreciate Zimmer's Man of Steel more. I think it's fitting of the tone of that sort of film though - big robots fighting big Godzilla type creatures. Ridiculous and dumb and not needing of an intellectual score.

If you listen to one thing here on the score, listen to Shatterdome. It's exceedingly greater than the Game of Thrones' theme...

On the topic of Debney's Iron Man 2 score, I really admire the theme in the beginning of the film's opening titles.

Iron Man 3 was my favorite too. But Iron Man 1 was good for me, it has good themes. Anyway, GoT are my favorites from Djawadi and "There is a God in you" from Clash of the Titans (even though the whole thing was a little bit noisy). I've only listened the main theme and Mako of Pacific Rim and I think it'll be the only good thing of the album. I didn't have many expectactives with this

Well...I have not listened to this so I can't speak to it yet. However, against all reason, I adore...ADORE..Iron Man 1. It it the only one of the three scores I kept intact and on my playlist. I kept only a few tracks from Iron Man 2, and dumped Iron Man 3 totally. As for the whole guitar/synth/orchestra argument....Bear in mind I dig nearly everything ever done by McCreary so it is not the combination I dislike. Perhaps it is down to the use of the combo.

I....confess. I cannot get through even the first 40 minutes of Fellowship.....

I like Williams' Potter, but they are not strictly speaking action scores. I dislike large amounts of the Prequel scores.

Looking at my library, ACTION scores (more or less) for movies in the last 15 or so years? The ones intact and not gutted include in no particular order; Sherlock Holmes, Gladiator, X-men, X-Men United, the first three Potters, Skyfall, Crouching Tiger, Brave, Mulan, The Mask of Zorro and Sucker Punch. Now, I DO have 13 albums of assorted score tracks, each running 2 to 3 hours. I have a LOT of movie scores, and older 70's and 80's favorites. But even so, I mostly just keep specific tracks even from them. It is a rare score I keep intact these days. I do have about 2 dozen or so archived as "to listen to" also, I don't judge them until I have listened through at least twice. Then the gutting begins.

But no, I am not kidding. Modern scores have nearly turned me off the hobby totally. Aside from the tv albums, I have not bought a "new" score on my own. Just new releases of "old" scores.

1.) No, I do not read comics. Not my thing. I just can't do it, I'd rather rip off my fingernails than read a damn comic book.

2.) Yes he's a genius, but he's also a rock star. Look at him: wealthy as fuck, dresses like a million bucks (because he has the money to dress that way), does just about whatever he wants, throws crazy parties like a rock star bachelor would, and who does he listen to? AC•DC. There's even this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Man_2_(soundtrack). It's not just the marketing that makes him look like a rock star, he acts the role of a rock star.

3.) This is 2008, not 1963. A lot has changed over the past 45 years. I just don't feel that an orchestral score fits a character like Tony Stark. For Steve Rogers or even THOR, yes. But not Tony Stark. Listening to IM2 right now, I would never guess it's for an Iron Man film

Fortunately though, he and his "stooges", those truly *awful* composers like Harry gregson williams, John powell, djawadi, jackman, and so on will continue to bless our ears with wonderful compositions. Listening…

Well… compared to Zimmer's vacuous Man of Steel Djawadi's Pacific Rim, at the very least, offers a more voluble listening experience — if you have a weakness for moldy hard-rock clichs that is; which I don't, so the legacy "Simmons Drum" action beats and Zimmeresque power chords don't engage my ear at all.

Would I listen to this score again? Unlikely. It lacks the sort of action-oriented narrative uumph (or the virtuosic writing!!!) of, let's say, Rambo: Part II to raise my blood pressure and bring me back begging for more.

I actually found Pacific Rim to be enjoyable to listen to. It isn't terribly complex or heavy on themes but it keeps my interest more than other recent simplistic action scores. You can't always listen to complex orchestral music. Sometimes you just need to put on something simple yet enjoyable to motivate you for a workout or other activities.

Pacific Rim manages to at least provide a solid use of electronics and guitar that doesn't overpower the whole score but instead blends in together with the rest of it well. I enjoyed it much more than Man of Steel and also more than Djawadi's Game of Thrones scores.

Count me in. I loved his work on Iron Man. It was the first score in a long time I had on constant repeat. "Arc Reaktor" was my favorite track alongside "Mark II". I could not deal with the Composer changes in Iron Man 2 and Iron 3.

Looking at my library, ACTION scores (more or less) for movies in the last 15 or so years? The ones intact and not gutted include in no particular order; Sherlock Holmes, Gladiator, X-men, X-Men United, the first three Potters, Skyfall, Crouching Tiger, Brave, Mulan, The Mask of Zorro and Sucker Punch...

Nice collection; with a exception of a few, that's almost my own collection. I adore Michael Kamen's score for X-Men (it's like the whole reason I fell in love with scores to begin with), but I think it got a pretty lousy/unflattering official release, especially once I got to listen to the complete score.

Finally got a chance to listen to this score, and I have to say......... it's flat out boring. I mean I enjoy Mr. Djawadi's music, but this is practically putting me to sleep. And to be quite honest, I have so far found the summer blockbuster scores to be quite lacking this year. I mean, with the exception of 'Olympus Has Fallen', which I admit I really enjoyed the hell out of, the rest of the summer scores have been mediocre at best. 'Oblivion' was ok, but films like 'Pain and Gain', 'Iron Man 3', 'Star Trek', 'F&F 6', 'After Earth', 'Man Of Steel', 'World War Z', and 'Pacific Rim' have just been let downs. And the sad part is there really isn't many more summer films to look forward to. Here's hoping Beltrami's 'The Wolverine', brings some sort of redemption to an otherwise disappointing crop of scores.

Well I dont expect next years summer blockbusters to be any better or for the foreseeable future especially with Zimmer and his Hacks scoring 95% of movies now and with idiot producers forcing the other 5% to conform to said Hacks sound...

I have heard Beltramis Wolverine score its my Score of the summer.....

I'm a huge Djawadi fan Cauz I Love his Iron Man and Person of Interest scores. Gotta say wasnt too impressed with Pacific Rim. Can't be awesome all the time I guess. Didn't really like Red Dawn either. Safe house was ok. For some reason every time I hear Man on a Ledge by Henry Jackman it reminds me of Djawadi. That was a better score than that movie deserved. Personally i think Jablonsky should have scored Pacific Rim. Lol.

Your statement is sad, but true. It's times like these I miss Jerry Goldsmith.
And I hope your right about 'The Wolverine'. Something good should emerge from this mess of disappointing scores.

Well, I must admit I have not listened to the scores you have mentioned, but will keep an eye out for them. However, I don't think they really fall into the "Summer Blockbuster" niche that I was thinking about.

Thanks for the upload, guys.

I've only listened to the title track - want to save the rest for the eventual IMAX 3D showing. I assume that's the piece for the end credits. If it is... I approve.

You should try to listen to Alan Silvestri's score on The Croods. A rather good score for an animation feature.
I just listened to Djawadi's score on Pacific Rim and i'm surprised i find it okay and to compare it to MOS, this is a notch better IMO.

That.....is not saying a lot. I waited on Man of Steel to see the film. I have seen the film. The score does it a tremendous disservice. It is an unmitigated disaster, an abomination. I found it too distracting in the quieter scenes. It was inappropriate to the film in almost any measurable way I can imagine. The person I saw it with agreed the music was distracting and aweful. The movie: great. But the score: abysmal. If Pacific Rim is only a "notch" better, then I weep for the filmgoers....

Well the thing is, i opted to go the kinder way of saying it to avoid breaking the hearts of Zimmer fans but since you just wrote what i would have said as i would agree. then...I'll just echo your statement and give my thumbs up! Btw I would prefer Djawadi over the current Zimmer scores anytime of the day!

I know, many, many people like this score. I am curious how many have heard it in film. I felt it did not match the mood of scenes at all. But, I will say again that it is just MY impression. I posted in a Man of Steel thread too. I am not watering down my opinion, I see no reason to.

But I am wondering if we started a sort of score review thread, would we use that? To talk about how things worked in film and such. A critique thread?

I too like this score in a light heart-funky mood way! I haven't seen the film yet so there's still a room left to either love it more or like it less...

That sounds like a great idea. Why not?, after all it's about film scores and we are a community of film score adoring fans.

Could be interesting. But I wouldn't want to see biased laden gimmicks like polls or arbitrary rating schemes weight the proceedings.

The Croods is indeed quite lovely. Would be better if he didn't use sample percussion that sounds really fake but what can you do. I would also suggest Epic and OZ by Danny Elfman and 42 by Mark Isahm. 42 is still my favorite score of the year.

I'm enjoying it the more I listen to it, honestly. It's certainly "softer" than Zimmer's "Man of Steel" (which my ears are thankful for) or maybe that's just sound quality I'm noticing. The reoccurring "Pacific Rim" theme trickled out between tracks, I think, is nicely utilized to some extent (particularly in "Cancelling the Apocalypse") however, I think the Kaiju theme gets the shaft in any action-based track that doesn't explicitly describe Kaiju related events ("Category 5" / "Double Event"). Either that, or I'm assuming the every track with a choirs are associated with the Russian Jaeger pilots and I doubt they'll be in the film that long.

thanks for this. I am no fan of Ramin. I first heard him Prison Break, and I did like his style there. But since I see everyone giving good points to this soundtrack, I am curious to listen it. Also, it is one of the movies I wanted to see in the cinema. I was not in time... so... let us see if the music tell me some story.
I know... the tracks are not really following the way they appear in the movie. I might make a different movie i my mind. :p
