I have it, but I wanted to congratulate you for this
excellent post and your nice comments, my friend!
When I first heard Franz Schreker,
I too thought: "What the @#^#!!!!!"
"Prelude to a Drama" is amazing!

It appears our man in Greece and I have similar musical souls.

Prelude To A Drama makes you stop and prick up you ears.

My mind kept tumbling who this music belonged to- only to to be told it was a composer whose path I never crossed. I really thought I was listening to recent discoveries of unpublished early Korngold. Instead the work belonged to a man whose great talent was acknowledged and then because of his Jewish background those infamous pinhead bullies of the 20th century, the Nazis tried to expunge. Well, art survives while insanity languishes in its own circle of hell.

So far I have not stopped listening to this recording. Eating up every bit of exotic orchestration- OH THAT PIPE ORGAN in Ekkehard!

To think of the talent we lost during WWII. The art that still remains lost.

This man's creativity deserves to be recognized. Wish I could locate his Chamber Symphony.

Sinaisky shows how it's done. Schreker's overblown sound canvas comes to life and might drive you to extasies of hedonism.

Thank you Phideas1 for the link and for introducing me to this fabulous composer that I had never heard of. This music is wonderful although I found it more Wagnerian than Korngoldian to my ears. I immediately tracked down the other Chandos recording with Sinaisky and the Koch Schwann CD. I will be scouring the net for other recordings by this virtually unknown composer in the next few days. I agree with my friend Peter and with you that the orchestrations are also amazing. Thank you again for posting this rare gem.

Evidently he was the second most popular composer of opera (and some rather odd ones) only to Strauss. But yes, a fascinating find.
