There has been many rumours floating around the internet for the past few years. Many of them being created by the hope of Sega fans that someday a Dreamcast 2 will emerge from Sega. Sadly it never has been confirmed if there will ever be a Dreamcast 2.

A peculiar image has surfaced the internet recently and has been causing all kind of assumptions that Sega could be announcing a new console due to Microsofts abysmal Xbox One reveal.

The image above clearly shows a Sega logo as well as an unknown logo and the single word Spectrum. The Japanese text translates to A new world of entertainment. and shows the date of June 6th 2013.

This image could mean anything to a new arcade board, a new online service, a new title or like previously mentioned a new home console. Its hard to say at this moment in time but do you think Sega has what it takes to take on Microsofts Xbox one, Sonys PS4 and Nintendos Wii U? Considering that Sega also recently announced a 3 game deal with Nintendo for exclusive Sonic titles it could seem unlikely its a console. Who knows? At the moment this is still all speculation and we will have to wait until June 6th to see if anything comes from this leaked image, that sadly has no original source other than a post on NeoGAF.

Ok... I'm not one to believe the rumour mill at all, BUT if this rumour does turn out to be true (which we'll find out at E3, just 9 days away) it'll be about time. True SEGA has stuck to software etc ever since the Dreamcast floundered and sank, yet the Dreamcast laid down the foundation for some of the aspects we see and enjoy in current generation consoles.

In any event, this has myself looking forward to E3 with more anticipation than I had originally. What are your thoughts?

Definitely one of the dumbest rumors to come out lately. Why would Sega recently announce a deal with Sonic (their mascot!) games appearing exclusively on Nintendo consoles if they're making a new console? Plus, their ties with Sony and Microsoft would be in danger.

Mayb so, maybe no. After the abysmal reveal of the Xbox One, the lacklustre Wii U and with only the PS4 to so far show any potential, the time is pretty good for Sega to return to the console wars. The Dreamcast while it was a failure, left a lasting legacy and features now seen in current generation consoles, was ahead of it's time.

Yes Sega has ties with Sony and Microsoft, but that's only one part of Sega though. Call me a fanboy if you want, but I have to admit I'm rather hopeful for a new console... one which will fill the void and give Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft a kick in ballsack and have them wake up.

Being the massive Sega fan that I am, I've been hearing Dreamcast 2 rumours for nearly a decade now, without having anything ever coming to fruition, so I'm liable to take this with a grain of salt. besides, 'Spectrum' as a name for a hypothetical console? That was the name of an old British made computer from the '80's! I don't think this is anything more than a possible game download service like Steam, but then, I guess we'll see at E3.

As a Dreamcast fan, I would be thrilled to see a new SEGA console. However, I find this very unlikely.

since im the only one took the reality check here:

the chances of sega making a new system are 100% ZERO. just because the xone has so far failed all expectations, doesnt mean sega automatically has the budget to launch a new system.

it must be a new board for arcades

Well then, to all the naysayers, we'll just have to wait and see in 8 more days.

In hindsight, I'm liable to agree with Rokusho - that this is a new arcade board. But then, I didn't think Sega still made arcade games? Either way, we'll know one way or another in a week.

wish sega did make another system. don't really think it'll compete very well with sony and microsoft's new systems, though. would love to see sonic make an epic return. colors and generations were both above decent games.

why would sega make a new console if the wii-u gives them everything they could want? do you people forget how the saturn and dreamcast almost put sega out of business? the only hardware sega makes nowadays are arcade boards in japan, it's stupid to think people really thought they would make a new console.

and the e3 has come and gone.
and what do you know, no new system.

get it through your thick skulls: sega will NEVER make a new system.

@dissident93 and ROKUSHO : One can still dream though. Who are you to tell people that they are stupid for wishing for something to come true, even though it won't? Tone down your responses next time as well.

theres wishful thinking, and then theres ridiculous.

im not an optimist, neither a pesimist, im a realist.
i dont see a half full/half empty glass, i see a glass with half the content.

sega will never come back, and people that think otherwise amuse me in their childish wishing.

One being ridiculous is only in the eyes of the individual ROKUSHO. Just because you think it's ridiculous, doesn't mean others think that. Be more tolerant of others thoughts and opinions, as each person is different than another.

It's not stupid do dream that someday Sega might give you a console. It's stupid, really, REALLY stupid to think that Sega might come up with a new console with 9 days left 'till E3 simply because Microsoft's presentation of their Xbox One went bad.

sega will never come back, and people that think otherwise amuse me in their childish wishing.

For a realist you really sound like pessimist.

theres a fine line that divides the two.
only the educated in the matter can see the difference though.

Closing thread, as it's served it's purpose and I won't have it derailed into a possible flamefest.
