Pino Donaggio
Dressed to Kill (Deluxe Edition)
1980/2013 (Intrada)

37 tracks, TRT: 1:39:58, FLAC

PM me for Link

Note: the bulk of this score is from the newly released Intrada album which was a very rare experience in that it differed in so many places from the original album due to the final mastering being of the RAW sessions with no added reverb. While it was a treat to hear the untreated tracks, several of my favorite cues minus the reverb was almost maddening as some segments came across sounding flat and lacking the life that I remember them having from the Varese album so I went in and played around with some reverb settings and settled on a "concert hall" reverb setting which wasn't as thick as the original album but does help beef up the rather lifeless mix on the Intrada album.

Also, my second issue was with the downmixing of the woodwind instruments which, to me, are some of the most beautiful/haunting that I've heard in a film score for quite some time but to not be able to hear them at all was almost devastating but luckily, luck was on my side and resolving that issue was as simple as anything I've ever done. The woodwinds sections I'm referring to are mixed in the right channel which was also mixed a little lower than the left so I was able to boost those right channel sections up without any clipping which is always a nice thing to end up with. The woodwinds aren't as promiment as they are as on the Varese album BUT they are at least audible now and make the piece feel complete.

As a side note, the previously unreleased cues on the Intrada album were wonderful to have but ultimately, I see why some of them were excluded originally but that doesn't deter my enjoyment of them at all. The inclusion of the Peter motifs was definitely much appreciated.

With all this talk about the Varese album, you'd think I would have included it, right? And you would be right. All original 13 album cuts are here in their originally ripped forms. No touch-ups needed.

Now sit back and enjoy what is considered one of Pino Donaggio's greatest film scores in the way I personally think they should be heard. Enjoy!

Hi,
codyap09,

Please send to me too.
Thanks.

P.S.

I think that the music of P. Donaggio is the most beautiful soundtrack while I heard it until now.
And it is "Theme of carrie" to like me personally.
Theme of the carries in particular is a plain melody, but I thinks very beautifully.

However, at all unfortunately his popularity is not so high in my country.
Composers of the hollywood movie's are very popular...
(So, Ennio Morricone is famous in my country.)

In many cases, they organize a magnificent orchestra and play it.
I think that it is very splendid in its own right.

But, Italian composers are not defeated by them, too.
Pino Donaggio, Stelvio Cipriani, Riz Ortolani, etc...

Italian composers bring about the musical piece that they are very delicate, and is beautiful.
The sound that spreads among the hearts deeply though it is a very simple melody.
This is the charm that is different from American composition conclusively.

Viva Italian composers!

Best regards

hi, could yo please send this link to me? I agree with you that some of the new tracks sound flat. I would love to here what you've down with them. My only real disappointment with this new release is that the film version of "the erotic story" wasn't included. The album version sounds nothing like the film version.

Apparently the film version of The Erotic Story is the one piece they couldn't locate. Honestly, that was the single piece I wanted more than anything.

Good news: I got my Intrada CD in today and I found my Varese CD so I will be working on fixing the Intrada album up again in lossless this time, of course and re-ripping the Varese album. It may or may not be up today but I will let you all know when it's ready.

To those whom are interested, I did a little presentation with the previously unreleased cues. It's nothing fancy but it does have a visual that goes with it that I quickly threw together. The suite has a nice flow and there's even a neat little surprise at the end. :) Here's the video: Pino Donaggio - Dressed to Kill Unreleased Music Suite - YouTube (http://youtu.be/caItYukZEIM). Enjoy!

As I love this soundtrack and I'm very gratefull to you because I was dying to hear the Intrada version of this classic, I have the wonder, did you edited the tracks?, please don't feel offended, but I got that idea from the "note", and, as English is not my maternal language, I got really confused with all those technical words. So, exactly, did you edited the tracks?, or there was a way to switch the tracks to hear them better?

PS: I really loved this album, this and Carrie are my favorite soundtracks from P. Donaggio, as far as I don't know wich others are worth listenign...

cdmaster88
11-28-2013, 08:34 PM
I did edit the tracks by just adding a light reverb to the Intrada tracks since they were a little too dry for me. I did not cut anything though.

Wow, this is a beautiful soundtrack. I was expecting something more overtly "horror film" but this is subtle and your enhancement of it is equally subtle and I can't imagine it any other way. And how is it that I'd forgotten how good Donaggio is? Again, many thanks!

Can anyone tell me a little backstory on where the track "Bad Night" would've played in the film because where it's positioned doesn't make sense. Nothing really happens between "Kate's Confession" and "The Museum" so this one really stumps me.

Also, the first 1:35 of "The Forgotten Ring" have me stumped. I don't recall that whole scene before the kid gets on the escalator running 1:35 so were there a scene cut out that we don't know about?

I'm sure it's covered in the booklet (or I could just be delusional on the second track) but I'm not around my copy so I can't look for a little while. Thanks to anyone who can help.
