There have been several different names for the beasts you can bring into battle. But which one do you prefer?

If I remember correctly, the literal translation of FF6's summons was Phantom Beast, so I voted other for that. Esper isn't nearly as cool as that.

Well, they were Espers in the original version. So I just decided to stick with that. And phantom beasts <I> is </I> a cooler name, but I put Espers on there.

No, FF6j is the original version, as it was released first in Japanese, making Phantom Beast the originial ^^;

Uh I was talking about FFIII, which is the original version of FFVI. FFVI is a remake of the SNES FFIII. And in FFIII, they are called Espers. So I am going to stick with that name.

I don't count Japan anyway...

"You don't count Japan..." That's a little blase, seeing as it's the home of the origin of the game.

Okay, to educate you...

Final Fantasy was the first title, released in both Japan and the US as Final Fantasy for the NES.

Then, in a piece of ingenius marketing, Square neglected to release Final Fantasy 2 and Final Fantasy 3 on the NES in any other regions other than <del>America</del> Japan.

Final Fantasy 4, the first SNES release, was released in Japan first as FF4, and later released in the states as Final Fantasy 2, so as to continue the numbering range there.

Final Fantasy 5 was released in Japan only again.

Final Fantasy 6, the last SNES title, was released first in Japan as FF6, and released in America as Final Fantasy 3.

Then, when the Playstation boomed and Square started making Final Fantasy 7, they realised that the numbering system was all wrong, as Europe got the game for the first time. Naturally, upon playing 7, Europe asked "where's the other six????" And America asked "Where's the other three????" And Japan asked "Whatcha talking about fools????"

So Square released the previous FFs on the Playstation, and therein lies the true numbering system.

5 and 6 were released as Final Fantasy: Anthologies in the States (I think...)

4 and Chrono Trigger were released as Final Fantasy Chronicles in the States (I think...)

1 and 2 were remade and released as Final Fantasy Origin in both the States and Europe (I know.)

4 and 5 were released in Europe as Final Fantasy Anthologies, and 6 was released in Europe by itself with a playable demo of FFX so that those peeps who wanted the game could play it early.

As we stand, the real original Final Fantasy 3 is the only one that hasn't had the Square-Enix re-release treatment. Hopefully they do it though. And give us nice people in Europe Chrono Trigger as well. I'm not holding my breath though~

And in answer to your question: Aeons. They always turned the tide of the battle I was in, with their overdrives doing stupid amounts of damage especially when you summoned them in overdrive mode with Yuna's overdrive capability.

(Sorry for going off topic, I just felt you should know all the above.)

Actually, its any other regions other than Japan :P.

Thank you for saying that before I got around to it, and you are correct on Anthologies and Chronicles.
