This isn't a rant about me complaining completely why everyone is obsessed with FLAC rips in the download music thread. The thing is not everyone has the time sitting at their computers 24/7 listening to music, granted its up to the uploader what format they want to upload in. There are some people here whom like to play music on the go on their mp3 players (some of us aint computer savvy and know how to convert FLAC into MP3 or have the time to do it) FLA isn't really suitable for MP3 players as they take up way too much space. thats why I only upload (IF i do) in MP3... though what would the point of me of ripping a music from a cd only just to convert it to FLAC (if i knew how to)...

'Not everyone has the time sitting at their computers 24/7 listening to music.. people have MP3 players and many don't carry around ipads/tablet pcs/laptops on either'

I'm going to wait a bit after my statement comes before i get my next ost... the reason i say i won't upload as a flac is because i don't know how to... I'd let someone else do the FLAC version

There is really no excuse on this one.

There is no Problem in converting existing FLACs to MP3 for your iPod or Mobilphone or whatever Personal use, i do it too,
aslong as you dont spread fake lossless stuff around.
Means, converting MP3s back to FLAC.

FLAC don't work for me... so to test if flac worked is pretty pointless to me... and also some of these FLAC only albums take FOREVER to download (aint got the best broadband)

which is totally ok? Important is, you want to share at all :)

Let me respectfully disagree in one detail though:
it does not take you to be at the pc 24/7 to be able to rip flac or convert to mp3.
I am no savvy either. Granted there are most likely difficult and not-so-difficult programs.
And I would not want to take too much time either. There is a difference though between a specific amount of time (say : not more than 30 minutes?) and 24/7 ;)

In my experience, it is a matter of interest though. I have to set priorities, and of course I will not spend time things that I am not interested in (unless I HAVE to)

Which - of course - again is totally ok. So no worries ...

i have jriver media center for media player. it has audiophile nice features, and also will automatic convert to v-0 (or what quality wanted) for my mp3/phone, but keep still flac on pc.

i prefer MP3 because i don't have the space to burn 13000 cds. i have a lot of music that needs archiving and 320k is fine. obviously the flac is slightly better. what i get disappointed with is lower bandwidth MP3 or VBR but something is better than nothing!

Well, I have 30 dollar speakers, and 10 dollar ear buds, so the difference in quality between good quality mp3 or a lossless format is moot for me. But, There are several exceptionally easy free converters, so whatever format can be work. If I can use them, anyone can. That said, I have an extremely fast, unlimited Internet service, so I hardly worry about time downloading.

You can store the lossless formats (FLAC/ALAC/WV) onto DVD's as a data formatted disc.
DVD-5's are cheaper than DVD-9's, especially in bundles.
DVD-5 = 4.2GB
DVD-9 = 7.8GB

And DVD-R's seem to be much cheaper than a pack of CD-R's, from all the places I look at.
CD-R's are generally only good if you want to play back stuff on an ancient CD device (car, stereo, etc).

With MP3's really look around for a good front-end program to look at the options.
You can set the cut-off to 22kHz so you get the full range from the original CD format (44.1kHz/2 (per channel).

Before I bought some external hard drives (one per year), I was burning all the lossless downloads to blank DVD-R's and keeping MP3 conversions on my portable MP3 player.
