on disc three, in desert palace, after i got the gulug stone at Oeilvert,

i have lit all the candles, got all the bloodstones, and i still cant find the boss! (Valia Pira) i even followed the walkthrough to the word till the last bit where it didnt make sense...

i wasn't going to start ff8 till i finished ff9 but as i got stuck and was very bored, i've got myself engrossed in that now, i guess it'll be pretty hard to keep up with both storylines, though maybe not as they are completely different.

please help

Ok i will help you:

Your party consists of the four members who did not accompany Zidane on his journey to the forgotten continent. First, walk to the left into the hallway and climb the stairs. Light the candles on the left hand statue to illuminate the bloodstone on the right. Examine the bloodstone to recieve a Promist ring. It is vital that you examine all the bloodstones. Doing this will not only reward you with valuble items, but it will also have a affect on your impending battle with the boss.

Light chamber

Make your way to the light chamber. you will find that the outer statues follow your movement with great interest. However, the stone figures are rather short sighted, remaining immobile when you walk past near the banister at the front ensure that both their heads are turned outwards to conjure up a bridge of light. Cross it and light the candles on the gallery, revealing a treasure chest on the right side of the light chamber. Retrieve the Fairy earrngs and leave the room to the left, heading for the fire chamber.

Fire chamber

First light the fire in the bowls that you can reach in this area. Then walk through the door and follow the path until you reach the right hand side of the fire chamber. Light the bowl next to the right set of roses to make the statues on the left dissapear turn there and light the 2 bowls near the roses. The statues on the right will now vanish and oyu can light the the 2 bowls left on the righthand side of the room then finish by lighting the bowl in the middle of the balcony. Examine the bloodestone in front of the statue and you will recieve a Anklet then leave the room through the right door.

Stairwell

Light the candle in front of the statue to reveal a bloodstone. exxamine it to recieve a Sheild armour, and then climb up the stairs at the back and way to the left. Light the candlestick to the right next to the upper landing, then follow the gallery into the library.

Library

(There is a moogle in this room) First light the candles at the bottom left bookshelf, conjuring up a staircase on the right. Climb it to reach the candles on the upper left side. Light them and examine the bloodstone to obtain a N-kai armlet. You'll find a hint alluding to a future puzzle on the bookshelf near the head of the stairs, while the next candle stick to be lit stands to the right. Again, you find that you have opened a secret door. Light both candles in the passage beyond this door and then return to the library . Now light the remaining candles at the bottom right and go through the door, which then opens. If you light the candles on this balcony you will be able to visit the moogle through the stain glass window on the bottom left floor. Now to continue go left from where the moogle is.

Shadow chamber

Light both candles and examine the bloodstone to receive a Black hood. Take the door that leads to the left section of the Shadow chamber, and make the bloodstone materialise by lighting both candles in front of the statue whereupon you'll be rewarded with a Venetia sheild. Light the candle below and to the left of the painting and press X to reciave a hint "Dare not follow those of evil. Strive to follow those of good". This refers to the shadows on the wall. So, extinguish the left candle in front of each statue to make a staircase appear in the middle of the room. Of course you climb up light the last candle and prepare for battle. When a ! appears above press X and you will commense the boss battle. This will not happen if you have not lit all the candles.

Hope that has helped you and please stay at the shrine and don't just dissapear like most Newbies these days. :)

// Actually, that may not help. I know a few people who've had the same problem, myself included, and it wasn't our fault. On some discs theres a fault where the next part of the game won't load. You'd need a new disc and you have to at least start from an older save to reload the area a new if youve saved after doing all the candles. ~
// I hope it's not that, but you may have to face doing all of it again if you haven't got any old saves. ~

thanks you two, it probably isn't the disc, its probably my ignorance. that walkthrough should help.

i do have a save at desert palace before i chose the characters to Oeilvert though, would that do, if it is a fault?

// Yeh, that'd be fine. Any time before you start lighting the candles really. ~

thanks for your help, i found and beat the boss quite easily, it was not a fault in the disc :)

but, - i must be pathetic- i dont know what to do next, how to follow kuja to esta gaza. the airship is gone, and the walkthrough on this site does not adequetely explain what to do next. it has miss-spelling, and does not make clear which direction and which action to take, to get out of desert palace.

maybe, thats what i'm doing wrong, i'm relying on the walkthrough too much. once i get out of desert palace, i'll stop using it, but until then, could you help?

Thanks,

MysteryMan

// This bit wound me up aswell. What you have to do is to go to where the Hilda Garde was stationed and head out into the light. This will take you onto a cliff of some sort. Pull the lever there and this will unravel the ladder for you to get down to the lower level. You can then exit to the world map to the left i think. Anyway it shouldn't be that hard to find once you're out on the cliff. ~
//Once you get out on the world map follow Kuja to Esto Gaza. It's on the the south part of the snowy north west continent. I hope this helps. It may not be too accurate, I haven't played the game since it came out. ~

I remember that I couldn't find my way through that dungeon either, because I was too blind to see the door opening in the upper right corner of the screen. :P
Good luck, though.
I guess it's generally a good idea to first try your luck without any walkthrough.

// Yeh, the Desert Palace has always been hell. I've spent more time in that place than any other place in any other FF game. Except the Train Graveyard of FF7 (my first ever play of an FF game, even my first RPG.) ~

The only thing I recall about the Desert Palace is my mate Reido sat next to me giving me unhelpful hints with what to do... Luckily I got through without his aid.

I do recall taking all my physical attackers with me to the other place, leaving Dagger, Eiko, Vivi and Quina behind... Boy that was a BAD mistake... We got neatly hamstrung every step of the way back up...

I took Amarant, Eiko and Garnet to Oeilvert. Reason being, I didn't really like Kuja at this point and when he was talking all I thought was: "Yes, go on, see if I listen, see if I care."
Well. That was fun. With Eiko and Garnet.:eggsweat:

dedsert palace, HA, that has to be one of the most irritating places in the whole of the game, got through there though a few hours afyter i went in, however i found that if you keep eiko, vivi, garnet and quina in your party then by wandering arounf there you can level them up like crazy, also learn all their abilities and magic that was delayed due to the rest odf the story line.
